“Shockingly bad site”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 415Sharpe on 28/09/2014

You cannot even do a search for free rooms to rent in your area, the site is difficult to access and nothing can be found. Move on to a better site..

Hi 415Sharpe

I am pleased to say that we have made changes to our site now - so that customers can search and see rooms without signing up.

More changes are on their way too - so if you are looking for a room in the next few months, do come back to us - a lot has changed since you were last using us.

Thank you for your review.

“I rented an apartment found on EasyWG, ONE OF THE...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ValentinV on 26/08/2014

I rented an apartment found on EasyWG, ONE OF THE NUMEROUS WEBSITES OWNED BY W3 LTD SUCH AS EASYROOMMATE. After having received a copy of the landlord’s passport, a dated and signed contract, and a link to a LinkedIn profile, I paid approximately £1,400 of rent and deposit by bank transfer to an account in the landlord’s name. As specified in the website’s instructions, I used neither international mandate, neither Western Union, nor MoneyGram. Having exactly followed the website’s security instructions, NEVER WOULD I HAVE THOUGHT THAT I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE £1,400 IN A SCAM (not including the hotel bill). For when I arrived there, I found myself without any accommodation and encumbered with my entire luggage. I had to spend two nights at the hotel before finding a colleague who could put me up. Beside the financial loss and the moral prejudice, I had also sent a copy of my passport to scammers that are now able to usurp my identity. When I wrote to the website to complain, their client service answered (speaking about the scammers that operate on the website, and I quote!): "THOSE PEOPLE ARE USING FAKE IDS, STOLEN CREDIT CARDS, ETC. […] IT’S A REAL PLEAGUE FOR US." Therefore, it means that THE WEBSITE’S MANAGERS ARE FULLY AWARE THAT THEIR PLATFORM IS INFESTED WITH SCAMMERS AND STILL CLAIM: "FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS, [THE WEBSITE] HAS BEEN EMPLOYING ALL HIS KNOW-HOW AND EXPERTISE AT THE SERVICE OF ITS USERS TO ERADICATE THE TOTALITY OF THE POTENTIAL SCAMMERS […] THUS MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO BROWSE IN TOTAL SECURITY". In order to go even further in terms of irony, their client service still finds the nerve to retort: "DESPITE ALL THOSE CUES [sic], you still put yourself in touch with this person and fulfilled your payment". Such "cues" can assuredly be only considered as MENDACIOUS AND DECEITFUL. Following my unfortunate experience and the numerous pages of emails exchanged with a client service as stubborn as enable to write a single sentence free of a spelling mistake, I would like to give my humble reinterpretation of the website’s values : IF YOU FOLLOW OUR INSTRUCTIONS, LOSE £1,400 AND GET YOUR IDENTITY STOLEN, CONGRATULATIONS : YOU ARE NOW ON YOUR OWN!

“WORST WEBSITE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/07/2013

You cannot read messages sent to you unless you upgrade and pay a ridiculous amount of money. A girl contacted me, I was able to view the room she was offering and it was just what I was after however because we both had basic memberships neither of us could contact each other!

“I put a room for rent on EASYROOMMATE. You cannot...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Edgrob on 24/05/2013

I put a room for rent on EASYROOMMATE. You cannot read any emails sent to you unless you pay a minimum of £25. So what happens is you send interest to people who are looking for a room which is free then an automated email is sent by Easyroommate stating (WHATEVER their name IS) "SEEMS interested in your AD. to read their response you will need to UPGRADE". So when you pay a minimum of £25 (ONE month SUBSCRIPTION) to read the EMAIL, it turns out to be no more than an automated email from Easyroommate stating "SORRY this person is not interested in your AD"! and YOU'VE wasted your MONEY. My advice is use the Spareroom website as they are overall much better and it is totally FREE. I have been renting for years now and always find people on Spareroom but not once have I ever found anyone on EASYROOMMATE. So you do the MATHS.

“What me Worry?”

★★★★★

written by JohnDoe1972 on 26/02/2013

Just like any review you will find people who pick holes, I have used Easyroommate for a while now to fill our shared student house and found it quick and easy to use. I shell out £30 for the month, and if I haven't filled the room (once) within that time, they give you another month free. The first time I used it was as a free member, but I found the faded emails odd, so signed up because I knew it was still a good deal, and have had no issues for three years now. Our place is in Aberdeen, and trust me not many sites have a lot of people looking to rent in our town, so I was impressed by the choice of people looking.

I'm not sure what the issue is here, the site says that as a Free member you can only contact Premium members, but if you pay to become a premium member you can contact all?

The message I grant you is not user friendly, but the site is moderated so people are vetted to reduce scams and creepy people, and they have a UK based customer service,so no surprise they charge for the premium version of this. A site will either make money through lots of advertising or some pay model so get over it.

My opinion is valid, as portrayed in the contradiction of Easyroommates representations.
Your praise and counter argument with a derogatory "Get over it" is not helpful and bluntly demonstrates where your affiliation lies.
It's free country, I dare say you get over that.

“One of the best flatshare website, maybe the best !”

★★★★★

written by Silvestre34 on 14/11/2012

In few words : excellent website, excellent team (especially the customer service), good listings, nice design, easy to use, free of charge. Definitely one of the best ! It exists also in French (and other languages, but I used only in english for London and in french for Paris) and it worked well too. I found a flatshare in paris in only 4 days and in London in 3 days, which is quite amazing if you think about how difficult it is nowadays to find the right flatshare. Again, I would like to speak about the custom service which is working perfectly fine if you need help. Indeed, if you any question, they answer really quickly by phone (normal phone number, not a paying one) or by email. It was just great. Moreover, you can find an app, which is funny and working fine. I prefer the website because my iPhone is old and I don't use it a lot anymore, but if you want to try, don't hesitate.

I was in Paris and looking for a place in London. Was supposed to move to London in a week. I find the perfect place in 3 days. I had a lot of contacts easily, a lot of ads are available on easyroommate. And all ads are up to date. Perfect website if you need to find a good place quickly. I recommend it to everyone.

“Found a great room in 3 days!”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/10/2012

I've been thinking to move to London for a while and finally made the move in September. I offered my place in New York City on Easyroommate and search for a Room in London via the same service. Both worked out great for me. I found a new roommate for my place and a Room for myself in London. The only down-side is that you need to become a member in the UK and USA separately. But the fees I paid here, are so much less than at the rental agencies I've come across. There are so many Roommates on this site that I only needed to advertise for 2 days! Great service. 4 stars because of the memberships in both USA and UK. Overall good experience - Would use this service again or recommend it to my friends.

I have a few HMOs and being a former user of letting agents it used to take a decent chunk of my rent. I get too many calls and emails if this site if anything, I filled the rooms get the ad down or I wont be left alone.

“Plenty of Choice”

★★★★☆

written by on 14/10/2012

The amount of interest that this site generates is almost more than one can handle but that is exactly what you want when trying to let your property. The people who apply & stay at the property have always been genuine and very reliable with rental payments.

Ok but very expensive and worse than useless if you don't pay for premium membership. Also excludes people living in suburbs, as you can't list under the nearest big town..

“website functionality”

★★☆☆☆

written by chrisyorks54 on 12/10/2012

The functionality of the new website is awful. Not only do links not work; e.g. moving through the pages of results has to be done with the arrow key, you cannot simply select which pages you wish to view without "website error" being displayed. Give me the old site anytime. I have used this website for over 6 years now and, it may look pretty now but it is not useable. So, how useful is that. Easyroommate get your act together please.

“The web site keep changing !.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shunfat on 11/10/2012

To easyroommate, I've been with easyroommate.com for the past 7 years since then it has change so many time i really do not know how it works and we don't understand why the web site has so many changes to it, why not keep it the same !. Also i would not recommend to others because people at easyroommate.com don't listen or take comments into consideration. This is why i've not carry on with the service they provide. It could be better and improved. Thanks - Raymond.

“Good but illogical processes - deaf to customer feedback”

★★★☆☆

written by dasuzu on 11/10/2012

Easyroomate is a mix of good and bad. It allows good photos and excellent information to be uploaded, but many of the processes are flawed with an unecessary number of clicks needed to achieve certain tasks. Here is a classic example: 1. When someone adds you as a Favourite you are notified that "Someone as added you as a Favourite!". Why they do not say who along with some summary information is a mystery. In order to find out who is interested in your ad you must click on the link and are taken to another page which says: "Hi One of our members just added you to their favourites list. Click here to see this user's profile and make sure you send them a message if you are interested." A completely unnecessary step in the process! So you click the link and then unbelievably get asked to Login to your account again - which is a bit odd as you have to be logged in to see this message in the first place! So you enter your password AGAIN and Login and finally get to see the profile of the person interested except you are now on another website called Zoopla??? What on earth is going on here??? It's as if someone in Easyroomate is trying to lead you down a labyrinth choosing the least direct route possible! There are numerous examples of very poorly thought though processes and unnecessary tedious steps when using Easyroomate and frequently upgrades to the site result in it becoming less user friendly. Whenever I have emailed Easyroomate to suggest improvements to their site I am either ignored or my suggestion is viewed as a complaint and they fail to see the point. In contrast Spareroom listens to my feedbac and have quickly incorporated ideas I have suggested to them and corrected mistakes in their site I have informed them of. As a result I far prefer using Spareroom now. Hopefully one day Easyroomate will listen to their cutomers, but for now I've given up trying to inform them

“Landlady from Hell!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by snoopjet on 11/10/2012

People who use this website should proceed with caution. When my boyfriend used EasyRoommate for rental accommodation his online advert was answered by what amounted to a psycho in the guise of a landlady who became spiteful and vengeful when he exercised his right to have a guest (me) to stay for a couple of days. After being insulting towards me she proceeded to make his life even more hell and misery than it already was (he was left in the position of having to leave notes for her as she holed herself in her room upstairs and refused to talk to him – the juvenile that she was) and he was left with no choice, for his safety and sanity, but to give her premature notice. The situation culminated in her turning into a screaming madwoman on his very last morning (she clearly had to have the last word on everything and could not stand the fact that he had pre-empted her evicting him by giving her his notice of intention to leave) when, realising that he had just returned from his 12-hour nightshift, she started banging on his bedroom door and shouting abusively at him and ordering him to leave immediately. Abandoning his nightshift that evening he had no choice but to return to London (from Newport) and subsequently ended up being penalised at work as a result of this. We both spent approximately one year trying to bring the landlady in question to justice and eventually had to take the matter to a small claims court that added further insult to our injuries by his not being awarded one singe penny in compensation – not even the £150.00 bond that the landlady refused to return to him. So beware if you are ever in a similar situation – the law is not on your side as you have no rights, not even human ones! On contacting EasyRoommate about the matter all responses that they have reverted with have been as if from someone by the name of Victoria but clearly, from their contents, composed by different people; some apparently struggling with the English language – suspicious in itself to say the least. Unsurprisingly, they are refusing to take any responsibility for what happened to my boyfriend, apart from blocking the account of the landlady in question, and their concluding response was to the effect that they would provide any help required of them if the matter went to court despite being aware that it already has and the outcome of it. Around the time of the incident I came across a reviews website for EasyRoommate in which there was not even one good one posted. I can now find no trace of this website which appears to have mysteriously disappeared. When I questioned the phantom “Victoria” about its removal, I was informed that they “do not have the time”.

Minafriere's Response to snoopjet's Review

While I am sorry about your experience with the 'mad' landlady, I am not sure how you can blame anybody apart from her? How is a website supposed to know that a person who advertises a room is going to turn crazy - You complained and they blocked her from using the site, then you also blame a court for not awarding you compensation?
I have rented out rooms to people who have wreaked the room way beyond any deposit so it works both ways - I used a paper and she seemed fine when I rented my room out, but went crazy at the end of her lease when she had to move out - I could hardly sue the paper for letting a crazy person read my ad?

Snoopjet's reply to Minafriere's Comment

Written on: 09/12/2012

Ever heard of thinking outside the box? Instead of just rolling over and thinking that such behaviour is normal and out of your control, perhaps you should have contacted the paper in question to inform them of what happened to you. I am sure they would have been grateful to you for your feedback and, you never know, it could have led them to devising ways of preventing repeat scenarios by, if nothing else, providing a warning system to landlords who use them for advertising purposes.
As for advertising websites such as Easyroommate that are increasingly growing, they cannot be in the business for the love of it so why should they not be held responsible for allowing maniacs, that they would be in the know about if they bothered to vet them first, to use them for money-making purposes? All they are doing is acting as an introductory tool for users and then using their feedback which, to all intents and purposes, amounts to people such as my boyfriend, doing the donkey work while they sit back and reap the benefits.
In view of this I do not see anything wrong in their being held accountable when things go wrong. Neither do I consider their blocking from further use of their website, the vermin in the guise of a landlady, in this instance, sufficient action on their part, particularly when bearing in mind the nightmare year my boyfriend and I had as a direct result of her disgusting behaviour.
You apparently have issues in our not only progressing the matter as far as we did, but also in our anticipating that we would at least get the amount of the bond back, which we probably would have been successful with if we had not also had the bad luck of being allocated a district judge who did not know right from wrong, and who considered it justifiable that the landlady be given only a verbal wrist-smacking for what she had done before allowing her to get away scot-free to terrorise her next victim.
Although it eventually went beyond our wanting the amount of the bond back and became more a matter of principle to us to try and prevent others from suffering the way that we did at the hands of the sorry excuse for a human being in question, perhaps you are so wealthy that it would not even cross your mind to even try and seek compensation for your losses. Not everyone is so fortunate to be in that position so you should consider yourself lucky to not have to chase what may be rightfully yours.
We unfortunately had to learn our lessons regarding excluded occupancy “rights” the hard way with the ready and willing help of a corrupt “legal” system. To now have someone as insensitive and unfeeling, as you appear to be, crawl out of the woodwork and rub salt into wounds that are still raw is disgusting and totally unforgiveable. What must you have for a heart?
Before making such cruel remarks you should have placed yourself in the position of a person who has worked a 12-hour nightshift during which the majority of the time is spent on your feet, and on returning to get some well-earned rest, you are confronted with the rantings and ravings of a psycho who was hell-bent on throwing you out and allowing you a generous ten minutes to do so. To then seek justice and find out that the law is on the side of the perpetrator in question was just the icing on the cake of a situation that I would not wish on anyone.
You have not elaborated on the reasons that your tenant “had to move out”, but as I do not know you personally I cannot comment further on this issue.
