“Ideal home for whom?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by msavio on 09/06/2014

With a name such as the ‘Ideal Home Show’ you would expect to see all sort of fantastic, futuristic, mind-blowing inventions to make your house more efficient, more sustainable, more beautiful and more durable, exploring materials, brands, new certifications for homes, new innovative space solutions, etc..
There was absolutely nothing of all this, nothing that trigged my imagination or stimulated my curiosity. In a nutshell: a big junk fair!
Just to give you an idea:
1. Garden? What garden??? The gardening area was a collection of hot tubs with champagne containers and TVs on the side (wasn’t this supposed to be the gardening area????), couches (wasn’t this supposed to be the gardening area), and paved lawns (wasn’t this supposed to be the gardening area, again?). What about “grow-your-own”? What about efficient systems for collecting rain water and using it for gardening? what about greenhouses, poly tunnels real plants and shrubs, real grass, lawnmowers, and so on and so forth???
2. Kids? No, thank you: well, the exhibition did not contemplate you having kids in the house. Not a single idea on how to arrange play areas in the house where kids can play safely and you can watch them, IKEA Warrington did a better job at this.
3. Don’t cook, just watch the telly: I think I saw only 4 of them. What a shame...a good, healthy and lively home is all about the kitchen, a social space for good cooking and sharing! It looks like the exhibition’s ideal home was all about a big big television and a massive sofa...what a deep message to the new generations and the young couples, eh?!
4. Food stalls: did you see anything vegetarian (besides the olive sellers)? Thanks for taking vegetarians into consideration...
5. Recycling: terrible, absolutely terrible. Few bins, not signposted and a complete mess.

A lot to improve, all of it really!
I wander if they’ll ever take into account our comments.
