Stay Away

My now husband and I interviewed 5 photographers after extensive research for our Cotswold wedding. Dav Hughes was one of them. He was always very quick to get back on the email and we appreciated that. He answered all our questions with some detail.

On meeting him, we found his manner a little eccentric. Which is not bad thing necessarily.

He showed us photos of other weddings but I must say I don't think we saw a whole reel of one wedding.

We couldn't make up our minds in the last two photographers but chose Dav because we but if he takes good quality photos so nothing else mattered.

Dav Hughes was slightly more expensive than the others.

On the day of our pre-shoot it poured but we all carried on. The photos were disappointing as we didn't look good and a lot of shots where not particularly focused on our faces. Aerial shots were great. At this point we really wanted to be polite and not get him upset so we played down our disappointment but told him we would want our wedding photos .We had already paid a deposit.

We met and also booked our videographer and the day we met the videographer I knew we had made a mistake with the choice of our photographer.

We got wedding preview photos on our honeymoon and we both looked awful we asked him to take some photos down from his website. Photos with our mouths wide open! Not looking at the camera etc Again good quality shots but not good when it came to the way we looked and the angle of the photos.

The full reel was disappointing.

Not 1 single photo of me alone in my wedding dress.

No clear photos of us looking together in the camera.

No clear instructions on the day as to what to do to improve my photos. I was looking down on the floor most of my pictures, out of pose.

No focus on aesthetics of bride and groom just landscapes and surroundings

I politely asked if he had any other photos I could look at just in case our taste was different to his and he said he deleted them all!

He made no effort to accommodate us after. Very cold, kept threatening is with the contract.

We had a clear brief of photos we wanted and he didn't deliver.

It was such an important part of our wedding and he had no compassion.

I did eventually receive ONE PHOTO on my own with my wedding dress

We had paid for the album and he wasn't very helpful with allowing us to choose the format.

He didn't initially want to give us colour copies of the black and white photos he gave us, said we couldn't have a black and colour copy on the same page of our album. I called other photographers and they said it was very possible.

We then decided to downgrade our package to digital only, that way we can use friends photos too for another album.

Thankfully he refunded the difference after a long email about how good his photos are.

Advice... Stay away. We were lucky cause we had the most amazing videographer.

UPDATE: I initially wrote this review when devastated about Dav Hughes and his reluctance to help us a achieve what we wanted. In hind sight I shouldn't have called him "odd". I do categorically stand by the rest of my review. I have been threatened with legal action by Dav Hughes but I will not be scared away by someone would cause be lots of tears the first few months of our wedding. I hope everyone reading this will be able to my honest and true opinion of why happened.
