“Dreadfull Company"Got you by the Ba**s"”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hortonff1960 on 24/04/2019

As soon as dog reaches 8yrs+ you are hit with Nearly a 100% increase in monthly premiums as well as 60% increase in your excess allowance not to then mention they take 25% off any claim made as your pet is over the magic number 8!! :( at this rate I will end up paying them..... However where can I now go as my dog has an ongoing health issue!!! so they have you by the Ba**s I will never never use this company again, had direct line last time and not any issues even after my dog was 14.... Very bad policys in place with this company..

“i had one policy with them like the add says around...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Smart338 on 07/09/2018

i had one policy with them like the add says around £14 life cover, then insured my other pets 3 all together at a low price, bit by bit it went up over two years on and i am paying over £30 each pet a mth. i have made claims but they still found ways around paying most of them and ones they did pay up for took 3 mths to get the payment so hope you are not in a rush for your money, i am cancelling two policies but have to keep one or she will not be covered by another company avoid if you can it sounds great until you have to claim or a year down the line,

“Now into week 19 for our claim to be paid!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DevonChoate387 on 26/02/2018

Our poor Yorkie underwent major hip surgery at 8 months, we settled the bill and waited 16 weeks to be reimbursed. He has subsequently received on going physiotherapy which again we pay and then forward the invoices on. His latest invoice which covered 4 sessions was acknowledged by this company as received on the 18th October 2017, passed for payment on 6th February 2018 and payment promised by 20th February....to date 26th no payment!! We have two dogs and therefore two policies which we pay in full annually. If you email them they simply send there standard reply 'we are experiencing a high volume of claims', we have been receiving this same response since May 2017, if you actually get a response that is. When we took out the policies we were met with a friendly, helpful, couldn't do enough service, trust us when we say this is not the case should you be so unfortunate that your pet is taken ill and requires medical assistance. Our policies were automatically renewed and payment taken in full on the exact day they were due (no delay in taking their money). Our advise DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO WAIT A LONG TIME FOR YOUR MONEY AND BE AWARE THAT IN OUR EXPERIENCE VETS WILL NOT WAIT FOR PAYMENTS TO TAKE THIS LONG EITHER!! Dreadful company to be avoided at all cost.

“IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PET, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LovelyLolaTheCat on 11/12/2017

If you want cover to ensure your pet can get the medical attention it needs if the worst happens, then, FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PET, DO NOT USE PET-INSURANCE.CO.UK. Use a reputable insurer, instead. Awful company! Doesn't respond to emails. Takes literally weeks to assess claims. Then uses every possible trick in the book to reject any and all claims. I urge anyone considering them, to go to a proper pet insurer. If you can't afford to do that, please put what you'd pay these "people" into a biscuit barrel so the money can go towards helping your pet if they ever need medical treatment. Every pound you pay this lot is a pound your pet will never benefit from! Oh, yes, by the way, they continued collecting premiums after we sadly reported our cat's passing! They say "we love pets" - they don't - they love premiums! Wish I could put ZERO STARS.

“Do not use”

★☆☆☆☆

written by cat0001 on 20/07/2017

I have read a few reviews about Pet-Insurance with regards to the premiums changing mid term. I have just gone into my second year and the premiums have doubled. The most annoying part is I did not receive any renewal documents and despite 2 emails and a 3rd just sent I have had no reply. Really wish l read the reviews on here first

“Service level is very very bad”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BobBee on 19/06/2017

This companies service level is very very bad, extremely so!. Just take a look at the other reviews below they pretty much sum up the level of service you can expect. My advice would be to get your insurance from another provider. Do not judge this company by the service level you get when taking out a policy. At that time they are very attentive and bend over backwards to gain your custom. However, when you make a claim and really need the good service they are lacking. In my experience they continually use delaying tactics in order to draw out the claims procedure. I can't remember the number of times they have told me that the volume of claims or the workload is so high that they are behind and will deal with my claim as soon as possible. Surely, if that's the case then the obvious answer would be to employee more staff, pay overtime or take some other action to reduce the backlog. If business is that good then they should be able to afford it. When it comes to you paying your premium I bet they wouldn't accept excuses like that for late payment!. Whilst they do actually answer the phone quite promptly and will tell you what is going on with your claim. You never get through to someone who can actually make a difference. I seems the call centre staff are mainly there to make excuses for the back-room staff dealing with the claims or payments. If you send an email requesting information or help they do not always reply. For instance I sent an email asking if they had received my claim form but got no reply until I sent a recorded delivery letter. Also, I email a request for confirmation of the amount they had assessed the claim to be and when it would be paid but got no reply. I can't understand why I didn't get an acknowledgement that my claim had been received until I actually asked for one in writing (time wasting I guess). I can't understand why they took more than two weeks from receiving my claim to actually review it (more time wasting). I can't understand why reviewing it took so long (over a week time wasting again) and then once complete it had to be sent up the hierarchy to be signed off (another time wasting exercise). At that stage you think you're getting somewhere but NO!. Instructions then have to be given to the payments department who then take another two weeks to set up a payment which then takes another 3-5 days to get to your account. All in all this company is very frustrating to deal with and is clearly expert in time wasting and delaying tactics. In my view most claimants want to get what they are due under the contract promptly, they don't want to be out of pocket having to borrow money in order to get by until they are paid by the insurance company. Also, a couple of things to bear in mind when deciding which company you go with: 1. Premiums for this company start very low with a young dog making it look very competitive. But once they have you hooked they ramp up the premiums year by year (as do other insurers) till eventually you've been suckered into paying one of the highest premiums in the market. 2. The standard excess is one of the highest in the market (if not the highest), currently £244 + 20% of the remaining balance of any claim. Clearly, I've lost all trust in this company providing an acceptable level of service. So I will be looking else where for my pet insurance.

“Cheapest is not always best”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ytOwens81 on 08/01/2017

After two months we are still waiting settlement of a fairly minor claim. We keep getting fobbed off by them. They have a standard excuse of a large volume of claims, and even resorting to being rude to them has no effect. We have learned our lesson!!

“Don't bother with this company ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by opMcDermott5 on 13/08/2016

Pet-Insurance has got to be one of the worst I have ever dealt with, approved payments take forever to be paid out but they so quick to hound (excuse the pun) you if you are late with a payment to them. Despite promises of it being paid surprise, surprise it hasn't so you have to wait at least a month from the date of them receiving your claim form to them paying you and they then put a clause stating from your renewal date your pets problem area won't be covered so our dog can't have any claims for his ears so come renewal date guess what I shall go with a reputable company and pay a bit more. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

“Rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Barooboy on 03/06/2016

Made a claim for my dog, they agreed to pay less than half the vets bill, after phoning numerous times they said it would take another 10 to 12 days for the money to go into my bank account? They were quick enough to take my premiums though!!! Absolute RUBBISH will not be renewing policy.

“Very poor claims service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 52Stack on 15/05/2016

My poor little dog died suddenly and I had over £1,500 of vets fees to pay out, granted some was for me to pay such as the cremation costs, excess and 20 % co insurance. I sent in all the paperwork including previous vet details, only to be told they needed the previous vet details. I pointed out this was on the claim form, and the adviser I spoke to said something like, that assessor who had asked for the information doesn't look at the forms properly ! I established they have all the information on 20th April, and has to be signed by the manager and then sent for payment. I asked how long this would be, and was told "weeks" I have chased it up again today, only to be told it will be another 12 working days and they have a backlog and do things in date order. I am very cross about having to wait so long. I have paid out money and am now in financial hardship due to this company's antiquated claims handling process. Even the complaints procedure says they will reply to the complaint "within 8 weeks " 8 weeks !!!!!!! I do not recommend this company at all. In fact, I doubt I will see my money this year, very very disappointing,on top of the upset of losing a loved pet. They are useless

“BEWARE - BEWARE - THE CRAFTY INCREASE IN PREMIUM MID...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Anne448 on 21/10/2015

I have a policy with Petinsurance, and recently received an e-mail from them telling me my policy is due for renewal at an increased premium. So I checked my existing policy, ONLY TO FIND I HAD ANOTHER 6 MONTHS LEFT ON IT. I telephoned Petinsurance and was told that after 6 months the policy cost was automatically increased. Asked why, they told me "so I can benefit from special offers". When I asked what they were, she told me the excess I pay would be reduced by 10% (big deal ) and I would receive special offers every so often. The best offer I was told about was a 5% reduction off my policy cost in 2 years time if I do not make a claim between now and then !!!!!!!!!, by that time it will more than likely have increased by 15 to 20% in price any way. Sorry Petinsurance, I think this is a very "underhanded" way to do business. I certainly will not renew my policy with you. Only because I said I did not want these offers was I told I could continue with my present premium for the remaining 6 months, and the revised premium would be cancelled. EVERYONE BEWARE, Petinsurance "AUTOMATICALLY " increase your premium, you are not asked if you want to pay this increase, you have to telephone them to say NO.

“They increase premiums mid-term for NO REASON!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bnPollock132 on 08/09/2015

I received an email today. They've decided my account will be "upgraded" to a "policy plus" (whatever that is). And guess what? It means my premiums will go up. It is 9 months into a 12 months term, I've not made any claims and they think they can just do this???? The only way to cancel is to waste time and money calling them - only to be cut off or told the number is too busy to take any calls. Disgraceful. They've shot themselves in the foot because they will lose my custom and probably thousands more by trying to force us into paying 20% more on our premium - and automatically charging us - without our permission! I'm so annoyed!

“Price good, customer service needs improvement!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Rafaelr1945 on 22/06/2015

I sent my claim at the beginning of May & I've been trying to contact them for 2 weeks to see how my claim is going.. I've sent emails & left messages & had no response.. If you ring them you get told that no one can take your call & you should look at customer contact online (send an email) or leave a message.. I've done both (a few times) and had no response. Good prices for the actual insurance but you can't speak to or contact them when you need to. Terrible customer service, needs improvement.

“Poor value for money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/06/2015

I took this policy out 4 years ago, and shortly after taking out the policy my Dog was diagnosed with a lifetime illness. I had to jump through numerous hoops to get the claim and over the last 3 years the excess has increased by a massive amount. Effectively meaning that it is meaning that I may not put a claim in as is not worth it. However for the current year they have had all the details for paying out, 2 weeks later it is pending for processing, when asked when will get sorted have been advised "when it is done" and no one is able to let it go quicker. Under no circumstances would I encourage anyone to use them, and if I had a choice I would definitely not use them.

“Hidden charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by yqLawson163 on 31/05/2015

I have been with pet insurance.co.uk for three years. I have discovered that they add on extras such as legal cover without you asking after the first 12 months. The direct debit mandate states one price but that doesnt include the extras which is misleading. It does say on the mandate that the price does not include the optional extras but these have to be opted out , not opted in. I paid an extra £142.62 without realising and they would not refund me. The whole package is misleading even down to the fact that it swaps between lunar months and calender months in the quotes to make it seem chesper. I have no faith in a company that is misleading in this way and have cancelled both policies immediately .

“Overlong wait time, poor excuses”

I have been waiting for my claim to be paid for several weeks and getting information on how long I will be waiting for is like getting blood from a stone. I have now initiated formal complaints proceedings and will contact ombudsman in due course if necessary.

“Dealt with claim quickly”

★★★★☆

written by Lucy561982 on 01/02/2015

I have read quite a few negative reviews, but my experience has been very good. I have put two claims in over the last year and they were dealt with fairly quickly. I had to wait about 8 weeks for the second claim but I actually thought that was ok.

“Long Long wait for payment”

Once you start to claim for an illness your monthly premiums will double and the excess will double as well and you will have to wait about 2 - 3 months for payment.

“Do not use - stick to more well known insurers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Swerve1972 on 22/10/2014

After insuring my cat for 8 years I finally felt I had a bill that was large enough to warrant the effort of a claim. When I say warrant the effort I think nothing would make me want to go through this claims process again! The advisor was rude and talked over me, not listening to my questions at all and being very diffident. I was informed that although my cat had injections including steroids and antibiotics because she was struggling to breath, they would class this as possible dental work even though no teeth had been removed or indeed mentioned. I feel this company will find any excuse not to pay out and I have now moved my policy to Petplan. Happily I can report that the injections did make my cat better and it was classed as a virus on her notes so please be aware that dental work can include anything to do with the mouth/nose/throat area and is a very good way that they will not pay out.

“Premium Increased by 475% and Excess Increased by 68%”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jimmy6packofbeer on 13/10/2014

This company are an utter disgrace. When I took out my policy in 2009 I made certain that I purchased a life-time policy because I wanted to ensure my animal had a good level of protection for the full terms of her life. The policy premium in year 1 was attractive at £16.05 and with an excess of £85.00. I am now in the 5th year of my policy with Pet-Insurance and the premium has reached a colossus £76.35 and the excess has increased to £265.00. I am unable to move due to a hereditary illness she lives with. Even so I rarely claim on my policy because I wanted to try and stop them hiking up the premium anymore but it doesn't seem to matter what I do it still goes up and up.
