“HFE personnel very unprofessional”

★☆☆☆☆

written by erikamolnar30 on 02/04/2024

The Pilates teachers in this organisation are racist, are not supportive and are unprofessional. It is so expensive for the little support you get DO NOT FALL INTO THIS COURSE you will have a horrible time. They also don't offer enough support so that you fail and then every-time you need to retake an exam or a practical they make you pay them. I really liked pilates and I had all the energy and will to become a teacher but they just put peoples self-esteem down specially the main teacher who is in all the HFE videos. All the student find her a difficult person.

“Company without compassion ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by chanelkerr on 21/12/2022

I’m writing this review on behalf of my mother who is very ill. She’s been teaching Pilates for almost 20 years and after attending a few reformer classes she fell in love with it and wanted to pursue her interest, so she booked herself onto a course paying the full amount upfront in August for the course starting in November. Unfortunately, in September she had to undergo a minor routine operation but encountered some complications leading to a second more invasive surgery. Needless to say, the stress on the family was enormous, dealing with the possibility that she may not  survive. With a view to remaining positive and looking to the future we contacted HFE to request that her course be deferred to next year in order to allow her enough time to fully recover. After several conversations between the company with my father and myself . It was clear that this company does not have a compassionate bone in its entire organisation. When requesting a deferment we were met with “our company policy says … if you agree to defer by date X we will charge you £100 if you defer after this date we will charge you an additional £250.” What an utter disgrace. Through no fault of my mother’s, she was hospitalised and as a result nearly died, yet these people hide behind their company policies and are trying to squeeze even more money out of her. After 2 months in hospital and a further month receiving treatment in a neurological rehabilitation centre my mum has finally been discharged just in time for Christmas . She has missed so much in the last 3 months: her livelihood, time with her grandson, milestone birthdays, her daughters wedding and the opportunity to get back to work and further her career. HFE your lack of compassion is astounding and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I fully agree. I was booked on an HFE course and they cancelled it one week before the course start date.

They then claimed that their t&c’s allowed them to do this and I was not due any refund but had to suck it up and go with the revised course dates. These did not suit my needs as a I had already made travel and hotel arrangements.

HFE are a disgrace and don’t care

“Mrs J Bryant ”

written by GlennAlvarado1993 on 08/09/2020

We are currently in a global pandemic. We are encouraged to self isolate if we are feeling unwell or have been in contact with anyone who is unwell or indeed have visited a country on the quarantine list. These are government regulations aimed at stopping the spread of the virus. Why then is HFE charging a quarter of the fees to change to a date ? £250 if an individual is doing their duty and protecting other individuals? Beware of HFE they charge unfair administration fees. They show no sympathy or compassion for their students. This organisation is unscrupulous.

“Over time this course lost stars”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Daniel77 on 01/05/2020

I recently experienced a certificate 3 diploma course and thought to give a review after the online and face to face components. I started the course with high 5 star expectations and finished with this review. Firstly, the course lost its' first star by being 8 Miles from the city centre it was advertised. As an essential worker during the week; I lost many hours on the weekend travelling to the course and in addition I had to pay for a hotel for two of the days just to be on time. Another lost star came from the suitability of the venue. My course required a lot of time on mats and the choice of a room primary used for events and celebrations could hardly be rated highly as a suitable exercise venue. The course lost another star with the instructors missing opportunities to provide pastoral support and going past expectations. Finally, the last star was missed when I compared it to the two other YMCA based courses I have completed (I don't finish this one). Other courses have been adaptable to full-time workers enrolling and then completing courses. HFE was inflexible and unsympathetic in assessing my needs and I would definitely not recommend REPS members or other working professionals; enrol in HFE's courses.

“Poor Service From HFE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Trainingcourses on 12/10/2018

I definatily WOULD NOT recommend HFE due to the extremely poor service which I have received. Their terms & conditions are restrictive. I’m sure that you will agree a physical training institute should have an ethical duty when it comes to a person’s medical conditions but it seems that a student’s money and a signed contract is more important! I was advised that even sight of a doctor’s note stating that I had a potentially fatal heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (also known as sudden cardiac arrest in athletes) could not release me from the contract with HFE. When I advised them of this fatal condition I had not had any training & I had only received 2 manuals a couple of days before. I find this extremely bad practice and unethical. Read all genuine reviews before committing to undertake any training with this company.

“poor learning materials, unprofessional and unorganised.”

I wouldn’t advise any one to take this organisation on. I’ve had nothing but headaches with their products and services. Very low standards and unprofessional support. I had to use the internet to assist me through my studies rather the. The books provided. Would never recommend.

“Heads up ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EricaHansen373 on 09/11/2017

Before embarking on a course with HFE make absolutely sure that you want to do the course with them. I would advise anyone considering this company to carry out thorough research into all suitable alternative training providers. DOUBLE CHECK terms and conditions, start dates/contract dates, cancellation fees etc. Ensure you completely understand how HFE conduct their business and ask yourself if your educational needs/goals will be met by this company. Ask to see the learning portal prior to handing over any cash. Also ask to see honest reviews and personal student experiences, however subjective. If you do take on HFE, it would be beneficial for you to purchase some subject specific text books to 'prop up' learning material received. Finally, make sure your on point with your IT skills and have a high degree of discernment when viewing course options on websites. Hindsight is a wonderful thing ;)

“Unimpressed ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cristoferq302 on 23/09/2017

On the practical element of this course where you attend the lessons the instructors spend more time talking about love life and catching up infront of you than giving actual direction or teaching points. Lacked structure instruction sections when they were given...awkwardly so. I don't feel like this course is value for money, it felt at times like my time would be better spent else where. Was very frustrating.

“Disappointed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GretchenJenkins on 22/09/2017

When I signed up to HFE I was assured tutor contact and support through the duration. They assured flexibility and a system that worked around me. It was not the case. The tutor failed to upkeep the contact and was away for two weeks as I started the practical element of the course. This made it difficult to keep on top of home study. I encountered software issues and they took long periods before they addressed them sometimes without remedy. This poor communication made it difficult to keep on top of my study plan and fit around home life and work life. It became more hassle than not. It has not been the enjoyable course I had hoped for. Although competatively priced I would definitely pay more for a BETTER QUALITY SERVICE. A positive - instructors at the location were friendly.

written by gjVaughan214 on 02/08/2017

I am so disappointed with everything ! The material class is poor, I had to buy more books to practice. My tutor was not efficient and she gave me wrong informations concerning the fees. I do have now to pay extra fees for no reason. The tutor for the weekends was not really nice nor available when needed. I will never take another course with HFE !

“Materials dissapointing.”

★★★☆☆

written by Dudette.xxx on 17/07/2017

I have done 2 courses with HFE and currently doing my 3rd, the reason for this is because this provider is the only one close enough to me here in the south west, and better the devil you know right?! The first course i done with HFE was my Level 3 A&P and Pilates. Now before doing this course I completed my Level 2 here in Plymouth with YMCA. The materials YMCA provide you with are amazing; online tutorials, videos of demonstartions, MP3 of the learning, text books with lots of DIFFERENT mock exams, which was all fabulous in helping me to study. Unfortunatley, HFE do not provide anything apart from text book (98% text) and tutor support over the phone. Great for the learner who can read and absorb but not so great if, like me, you need to see things in action, feel it being done or just need the picture painted for you! Also, another massive gripe of mine is there mock exams. After learning each section you can take an online mock exam on that particular subject however, the questions never change! so once you have taken it and gotten a few wrong, you'll know for next time not to tick that answer. By the end of it i was taking the same exam and getting 90% only because i knew what answers wern't right, make sense? Anyway, as stated earlier HFE are great if you can read and absorb and thats it. But if you need a more practical solution to learning maybe do some research into what the course provider can provides. That being said, call staff, tutors, intructors are all a lovely bunch of people. Really nice and friendly.

“Basic content with basic support”

★★★☆☆

written by on 20/05/2017

Although I enjoyed the course, I think this was mainly because I enjoy the subject. I completed my yoga teacher training course with HFE in London recently. The text books are not very factual, more of an opinion. They do not reference any texts or support their claims in any way. There were also plenty of typos, even the trainers on the practical days disagreed with some of the content. I didn't hear from my tutor throughout the course. Whenever I emailed her I recieved an out of office saying HFE is very busy and I needed to wait several days for a reply. Sometimes I didn't recieve a reply at all. I finished my course on the 28th of Feb and only just recieved an automated email on the 12th of May to say I have completed everything and I believe this is only because I emailed to ask where my certificate was. I think it has been forgotten about and not sent. Pretty disappointing. It's also worth noting that this course is not recognized by the Yoga Alliance. I wish i had of realised that before I signed up.

Did you receive your certificate. I have emailed about 4 times and still have not received mine. I completed at the end of April, they don't seem to want to know, said they would chase it up but still nothing. Why so long.

I didnt realise it wasn't recognised by the yoga alliance either

Hi both, I hope you don't mind me commenting. I'm currently trying to decide on a yoga teacher training course and am between this one and one that would be recognised by the yoga alliance. I'm finding it really hard to get my head around the differences and what that actually means?! Can you give me any advice? I'd be so grateful, thanks

Hi!

If you are planning on running your own classes this course would probably be okay (depending on your current level of yoga practice and knowledge) But, in order to find a yoga teacher job at a studio or well known organization, they usually require your YTT /qualification to be yoga alliance recognized.

I am about to complete a second course through another organization that is yoga alliance recognized.

Hope this helps.

“L3 GP Referral Review”

★★★★★

written by gavinlees on 13/04/2017

Initial contact with HFE was great - I had a person to contact in registrations/reception who had no problem in me referring back to her if I got stuck. My tutor I asked for weekly contact just to touch base. Every Monday I had a phone call to see how I was doing and, for me, this ensured I worked at least an hour a day studying as I wanted someone to report back to. So - I have felt very involved with HFE from day one. Course work notes were complete and detailed. Venue for assessment was fine as were the assessors. Exam venue and times suited me. I have booked another course and am asking for a pay rise from my gym now. I have used the knowledge from the HFE learning/course and already see the benefits for clients from my increased knowledge and also confidence in what services I am allowed to deliver. Great! If I had any areas of improvement or complaint I would have said. All good.

“Think carefully ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/02/2017

Course book excellent. Tutor was difficult to get hold of at times. Not quick replying to some mails although there is always some. Excuse why. My major issue was the exams and chosen locations. I'm a busy PT I booked and arranged all my clients around my exam venue and date. Then they informed me the date had changed! No reason simply changed. Then the venue for my exams changed to another location. Travel here was really difficult from colchester. Again lots of moving clients. In the exam I missed one question totally my own fault. After all the issues with HFE and the changed venues and inconvienuce to myself over their venue changes and postponements they still charged me £30 for a Resit. This is one question. 12 minutes exam! From my point of view as a business I would not charge a client after the inconvenience I had caused them. This would be a show of empathy and understanding. But I was charged. So be very careful with HFE I certainly will not be taking my level 4 with them nir will I recommend to my PT that work with me. Very cutthroat and cynical business practice. Shame really. Mine was the level 3 DIP in Exercise referral.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. We sincerely apologise if you feel we have underserved you or not appropriately taken due consideration with any part of your training course.

With regards to the venue changes, this was unfortunately beyond our control and is a rare occurrence. We do our best to always inform students well ahead of time of such changes so they can make appropriate travel arrangements.

The resit fee is standard policy for all students and we believe it is a highly competitive price compared to industry standards.

If you are happy to do so, please do not hesitate to contact the HFE Head Office. Alternatively please feel free to email our operations team.

Kind regards,
HFE

Thank you for yor reply. Although simply stating business practice and following set protocol may well be efficient it states very little for true compassion and understanding. I'm interested in your statement. That your charges for resist are competitive. Compared to whom I wonder... I can assure you and I know if several premier training companies that do not charge for the first Resit. If you are truly sorry I welcome your head office to contract me.

Hi,

Would it be possible to email us with the subject line "FAO Rick" (our Operations Director) and we will be in touch with a detailed explanation of policies including why we have have a fee in place for re-sits. Hopefully we can get this all sorted.

Unfortunately we don't know your exact identity otherwise we would have already contacted you directly sooner.

Would that be okay?

Thanks,
Josh

“This Pilates course is excellent, the best one to go for!”

★★★★★

written by KateHaynes1957 on 29/01/2017

So far I am have been working hard for this DIPLOMA since September on the theory. The tutor support is excellent from Monday-Friday 9-5.30 there is always somebody there to speak to, they read their emails daily and respond, and a land line number to dial rather than expensive 08 numbers. The course is well constructed using online and three very informative easy to follow manuals with good diagrams/photos etc. In this highly technical world we do not want to damage our bodies sitting at a computer all the time. An audio version for all the A&P study work is also provided for i-phones, MP3 players, i-pods, i-pads etc. You can do this DIPLOMA studying with a lap top or i-pad. The online content is clearly presented, easy to follow with various smartly dressed tutors that have motivated and clear voices to keep you focussed. A suggested study guide is provided in table format, which I found very useful. The forum is good to find out how other candidates are progressing and to support each other, but with my course for practical in April it does not seem to be used, hence I am communicating with other candidates in another part of north UK. I was recommended this course by a Pilates instructor at my Nuffield health and well being club. I am very glad that I took her advice. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to train as a health and fitness instructor. I think being a qualified yoga teacher has helped me a little with what I am going to achieve with this DIPLOMA. I look forward to seeing more training courses for instructors so we can promote fitness classes for senior citizens, less mobile and people with special needs, i.e. GOLDEN PILATES!!

“Level 3 Certificate in personal training”

★★★★★

written by AndreaBlackburn on 19/01/2017

Fantastic training and support throughout. On-line learning was new to me, and I opened the website and felt quite daunted BUT I contacted my support tutor who went through everything step by step with me, explaining it all and getting me to try things out until I was comfortable with it. Learning materials - website and textbooks. Variety of teaching methods meant that there was something to meet everyone's learning need, whether you prefer reading the textbook or the interactive website. Using both was great as one helped to cement the learning from the other. I really enjoyed the learning, and was self motivated and interested from the start. Regular calls from my support tutor were so valuable to raise anything I had questions about, consolidate my learning, and just to make me accountable, to make sure that I was keeping on track with the work. I couldn't have had better support, he was great, and I am so thankful. Practical sessions - These were thorough, intense and a fantastic grounding in the role of personal trainer. My tutor was once again fabulous, and was able to make sure that with any practical session, the theory was applied, bringing all aspects of the learning together. The learning was enjoyable, fun, varied and the group dynamic was great. The addition of the kettlebell and suspension training was an added bonus. I have had the most positive experience of learning and training through HFE to become a Personal Trainer, and I most definitely recommend the course to anyone planning this career path. Thank you HFE and in particular my 2 tutors.
