Starcraft is and always will be one of my favorite games. It still looks decent for a late 90's game and the story and characters and feeling are just fantastic.

StarCraft is awsome and I "had" :( the expansion pack which was cool because the Medics, Dark Templar, and Guardians. The game was worth it's money over and over.

StarCraft is possibly the greatest strategy game to exist. It is one of the most played online strategy games in east asia. The great part of this game is the storyline. The player is given tasks to complete. After the game is finished, the player can play online with other people and combat for victory.

Never gave 10/10 on a overall game rating.. but the Blizzard Starcraft PC game is a must. Why? This game set the standard for average strategy games, just like how Micheal Jackson set the basic standard of music video. Even through 2005, Strarcraft is beating all the new strategy games on staying on top of WCG, WEG, ELS etc... It beat Age Of Empires, Empire Earth, and a lot of other games that tried to take its place.
But why is this game so popular? Even though the graphics stink compared to new games, it's because of the numerous strategies. Strategies made from this game can be near infinite, and how constant control is needed, and one mistake can kill your expensive troop in a blink.
The main objective of this game is to be the best around the world, rather then beating single player mode. Single player isn't bad, and will give you a nice tutorial vs the expert players lurking in b.net.

Starcraft is a real-time strategy game in the mould of Command & Conquer. Unlike Westwood's seminal war simulation, Starcraft is set in the distant future and tells the tale of an intergalactic war between 3 different species: the Terrans (thats us, folks), the Protoss (a highly advanced race of energy creatures) and the Zerg (think Aliens). In effect, the choice to play the single player mode as the different factions represents the easy, medium and hard modes of the game. Each species has it's own campaign to battle through and sees you taking on the legions of the other two races.
As you'd expect, each species has it's own weaknesses and strengths, weaponry and units. For example, the Zerg are ultimately mindless swarms of hunters who if used wisely can overrun the most advanced bases because of their sheer number; whereas the Terrans are physically weak, but use technology such as tanks, mechs and battlecruisers to crush the opposition into submission. The protoss on the other hand use energy based weapons and are physically strong so are a sort of intermediate race of the three.
Play-wise, if you've played Command & Conquer, you can expect pretty much the same here. Units are selected by clicking on them and then various orders can be issued via the context sensitive curser. Building bases and launching strategic attacks is a lot of fun and Starcraft certainly delivers when it comes to variety. The missions can get absurdly difficult as you progress, but there's always the skirmish mode (in which you have a one off battle with other races) to keep you occupied and hone your commanding skills.
I've never played online so can't comment, but I imagine it's even more fun than playing against the computer.
Starcraft is definitely one of the better real time strategy games availible.

Blizzard Starcraft is fun to play online or off line. The races are even, so one isn't always the best. Good timing on the games, they should last around 40mins-1hr for a good one, but easy maybe 20... Almost relistic and Graphics are good.

In my opinion, the storyline is lacking and, well, boring. It's just there to fill space; the real fun is in the multiplayer.
