Editing Problems

I started my site about 10 years ago and being the manager of my sites I can not edit names and deaths. This needs to be fixed.

Inaccurate Dna Results And Appalling Customer Service

I took a test with MyHeritage. I was excited to get my results and puzzled at the ethnicity details but more puzzled at the completely new member of my "extended family" they purported to have found. I set out to research who this person was and having tracked her down and with her permission, plotted out both our family trees trying to work out how we may be connected. 6 month of research later and now MyHeritage has admitted I'm not actually related to her at all, and have refunded my test and membership. But they refuse to compensate me for the additional tests I had her family take with a third party company which is what exposed their results.

I put a review on another site and was contacted by a member of their "VIP" Customer service via a comment on the post. But emailing the address given just gets ignored. Others have complained of this happening to them too. A public show of "here's our VIP email address" but they don't ever reply to it.

There are plenty of DNA test companies out there, make sure you research HOW they come to their conclusions, how they categorise the results and which ones will allow you to upload your tests to their site for free. MyHeritage is not one of the good ones and I'd never wish what I have been through on my worst enemy. Their results made me query everything I know about my life and my family and wonder if I was adopted and my late father wasn't actually my father at all. Despicable.

Family Tree "lost"

BEWARE!!!

Came to use my My Heritage family tree some weeks ago after a period of inactivity and a couple of PC / laptop replacements, to find my painfully built family tree was not there. The problem tickets I have raised have been simply batted away, suggesting (1) my email has changed (even though I have sent the help desk snapshots of previous communications going back to 2015) (2) I have changed my email recently (see previous (1)) or else...I have DELETED my own family tree.

This is all the assistance I have received and because I no longer have a backup due to my computer problems, I now no longer appear to have a tree. The help desk doesn't even seem capable of locating past communications OR my tree in their archives.

So, please be aware of this situation. I am desperately upset at this turn of events to think so much work has been wasted. I hope I receive some more constructive feedback but I am not optimistic. I hope fellow members of this site fare better.

A Satisfied Customer

Joined early June and when DNA results came back I discovered relatives from both my maternal and paternal sides of the family in the top four shown - a lovely surprise. These were in Canada, Australia and the UK. I had occasion to get in touch several times with the Heritage Team and they were so helpful and patient I felt I wanted to write this review to say thanks to them, and also for what Heritage does in helping families discover previously unknown relatives across the world. I can confirm the DNA test really does work its magic, and I realise now I had no need to have felt slightly apprehensive before taking the test.

Interesting Result

Haven't checked this out very thoroughly, but found it very interesting. It will take some time to do. This isn't something you can review quickly.

Such A Great Experience!

I love that we did our DNA! It’s so very fascinating to see a map of our heritage. We were encouraged by a family member to do it and we are delighted we did. We were expecting to be surprised and we were! My major heritage was very clear and made sense with what I know of my family. I was also delighted that you connected me with my uncle!! As my husband and I did our tests we had a bit of a fumble with our ID numbers and they were switched. We had a giggle that you figured that my husbands gender was incorrect. But I was disappointed that I would have to do a service call. I anticipated waiting longer than my patience would carry me but my wait was short. And when the representative came on the line he had the loveliest Irish accent! He was charming and patiently waited as I awkwardly fumbled my way thru the prompts. He was certainly knowledgeable about the website and he answered all my questions so kindly. He indulged an old woman and I still smile when I remember the call! I just wish I could tell him, “Top ‘o the morning”!

Interesting Results!

Fortunately, I got quick help for opening the results on the phone. Something was wrong with my password.

Everything else was perfect.

Q&A

Karin2019

My husband does not know his heritage he cannot get an unabridged birth certificate from the home affairs. He has a birth certificate from his adoptive parents, he needs to track his family via genealogy DNA testing. Please tell me how to go about it?

Thanks

Hi, there are several DNA testing companies and I’m not an expert by any means. If it was me, I’d take a home test with Ancestry.com. Then I’d upload the results (all very simple and instructions are included on the site) to GedMatch. I’d look at the results of the DNA test and start plotting out a family tree within Ancestry or a similar tree building site with what you know and what you can work out based on the dna results. Be cautious, some people don’t want to be discovered or share information so it can be time consuming and frustrating. Join a local Genealogy group too either in person or online as they will be able to help you. Best of luck.

Why does my sync not work and why does the latest version 8 not download?

mlpaveglio

Most individuals I know that have done DNA testing have received colorful pie charts and all kinds of geological graphs in the mail once their heritage was determined. why did I just receive a skimpy little e-mail from my heritage?  it was and is quite disappointing

grethe

same here, very skimpy.

cnelligan14

how much is the postage to send a dna test to you?

shaysharon

I was adopted and I just want to find out what my nationality is. I don't want to look anyone up. How can I do this?

stjoeshmc

I need date of death for a medical study. Can I get this and do I need anything except the persons name?

Kishajnalka

If you are able to identify the person only by its name and if the date of death is provided and public, you can find it.
