Mcafee Treat Customers Badly

With auto renewals at maximum price every year. Never again. They give lawyers a bad name. We should be reviewing the company, not the gazillion products they have, so I chose the topic with the most reviews.

Like Using A Condom With A Hole In.

I got McAfee with my PC from Dell. I could pay extra in the total cost for 12, 24 or 36 months of 'protection'. I chose one year.

For the past few weeks I experienced various issues with my PC. Trusting McAfee, I assumed it was just the programs in question, or driver conflicts, because McAfee always reported that I had 0 security risks.

Every scan I did said I was clean. It said real time scanning was on, firewalls were on and the program was up to date.

I contacted the developer of a java 8 Early Access Steam game that wouldn't work and they said it sounded like my OS/a virus. I objected, saying it was their poorly made, unfinished game because McAfee said my machine was pristine.

I put way too much trust and faith in McAfee. How very naïve of me.

After reading various posts on various forums, I saw Malwarebytes was highly recommended, so I tried it for free.

Within 5 minutes the program had found not one, or two, but FIVE Trojans on my machine. Within 30 minutes they had been removed.

I rebooted my machine and all the of issues I'd been experiencing, including with the Steam EA Game, were gone.

I complained to McAfee and kept getting reps in India or somewhere. They didn't care at all. All they kept saying is I couldn't get a refund because my sub was expiring in a week. I'm sorry but it's not my fault your rubbish program said I was safe and that I trusted it. I'd have complained earlier if I'd have known that McAfee was incapable of finding and removing viruses that a FREE program managed within 30 minutes.

I'm asking Dell for a refund of the sub and I hope they bill McAfee or back bill them for it, they don't deserve money for that rubbish they advertise as the most comprehensive cover...yeah...because a free program did a better job. Dell gave me a refund of the 1 year sub I paid.

Also, what other users say is 100% true. You literally get spammed with renewal notifications and there's no box to 'not display this message again'. It's more than annoying.

Sucks, can't recommend at all. I'm sorry but I'm not paying £100+ a year (seriously didn't it used to be £60...not that it's even worth that?!) for a program that claims to be the most comprehensive protection but which allows your computer to get riddled with Trojans it can't even see...being beaten by a free program.

Stay Away From Mcafee

Purchased 2014 security pack from currys, when I tried to apply the code to my computer it kept telling me that english language chosen was incorrect?

I then contacted the mcafee support centre, who after 1 hour told me they could not load the package unless I purchased a warranty. I returned the pack to currys and was given a refund of £29.99. I have now been online and purchased Norton Security downloaded and applied in 20 minutes and cost only £19.99. Sorry mcafee I will never use or promote your product again.

Beware. Account Robbers.

I found the software worked satisfactorily, but was shocked to get an email a month before my subscription ran out, informing me that they had taken money from my account. I had not told them they could, as I had no idea that such system was in place. It wasn't until I searched their website that I found the 'Auto-renewal' part, which was 'switched on' of course. It is then possible to switch it off, but then it's too late. I have asked them for a refund, I'll see if or how long it takes to receive it.

Something like 'Auto-renewal' should be made obvious as soon as you purchase the product, it should also require positive action to 'switch it on' This really is unacceptable practice for a company that purports to be defender against companies like this.

This sounds only a little bit unfair. When you sign up the following is in, well not so big writing, but it is right next to where you put in the credit card number.

"Our auto-renew feature takes care of renewing your subscription for you. It's a great way for you and your family to enjoy uninterrupted protection. We'll use the payment information we have on file to renew your account, and we'll charge you the rate that's current on your renewal date. You'll receive an email four weeks before your renewal date so you'll always know what's going on with your subscription. Don't want to auto-renew? You can turn it off from your My Account page."

Avoid At All Costs- Total Cowboys

I have just checked my bank account and found Mcaffee have taken over £54 out of my account for a renewal without giving me any warning- I had no plans whatsoever to renew the subscription and it seems when i checled my account that they've conveniently adjusted my setting to 'auto renew'. you can buy the same anti virus software for about £25 new so £54 is just a rip off. Massively underhand rip off tactics by this company, and to make matters worse their average waiting time to speak to customer services by their own admission on their site is around 30 minutes. Shocking.

Not a long term business strategy surely, as I'll never use them again and doubt anyone else who's had this happen will either.

Dreadful "service"

I paid for the antivirus programme but it would not download. I tried the "help" option but it was anything but. I did manage to send them an email which 3 weeks later, has not been replied to. I then tried to cancel my order and get a refund. The site makes this virtually impossible to do. It sends you round in circles. There is no simple way to send them an email. As to phoning it is a premium number for which they tell you there is a 10 to 30 minute wait. I have sent them 5 emails to various addresses to which I have not had a single reply. As a previous reviewer states they are impossible to contact and impossible to get a refund from. I have had to buy an antivirus programme elsewhere. The matter is now in the hands of my credit card provider.

Daily Requests For Refund Ignored.

I have purchased Total Protection for 3 computers. This is different from my previous item from McAfee which worked well. Total Protection has blocked my iplayer and blocks several things that I have tried to download. It also takes a long time to scan - after 3 hours it had found no problems but was only 20% complete but had slowed down my work considerably. Within the 30 day period allowed I tried to cancel it and have a refund. I followed the instructions given daily and sent emails daily but after one week I was still ignored and had no response at all. I was going to simply request going back to my previous product but now I want a complete refund due to the poor response from Customer Services. Every day I get no reply I will write negative reviews.

Ease Of Purchase

I have been trying to cancel this purchase. It has been impossible to download onto my computer even though I have followed instructions on your web site and contacted technical service. I would not recommend McAfee at all.
