“Tesco Opticians, The Meadows, Sandhurst Questionable...”

Had one of the free eyesight tests at Tesco Opticians, The Meadows, Sandhurst. This was my first visit to Tesco opticians and I was not impressed with the staff, the lady who did the prelim tests was antagonistic in her manner and told me it was unlikely the optician would do a sight test as the one I had with me was still valid. Its not up to her to decide whether a test will be done its up to the optician and if someone books to have their eyes checked again there is usually a reason, as in my case my prescription had changed.

The equipment used to do the prelim tests were of questionable hygiene, absolutely no disposable chinrest papers or wipes to sanitize said chinrest so god only knows what germs I've picked up. On the equipment where the puff of air is directed into your eye there was no chinrest at all, which is most unusual and therefore no stability with your head, I imagine that this would be quite difficult for the elderly. The lady doing the prelim was showing poor control over the equipment.

The cleanliness of the optical equipment and maintenance before and after patient usage is paramount to controlling surface sanitation in order to minimise the risk of cross contamination. The instruments are a contact surface for the patient’s face, including the brow, chin, bridge of the nose and ears therefore thorough hygiene standards must be maintained.

The optician was ok and the eyesight test seemed fine. He give me my eyesight presciption & one of the other assistants tried to give me some quotes of prices but his quoting capabilities were poor, so I just said I would have a look online......there is a very easy and precise way to quote the prices......I think some customer training wouldn't go amiss at this practice with the floor staff, buying glasses is a big purchase for people regardless of any available offers.

In my opinion hygiene is definitely questionable at this opticians, I wonder if this is because the eyesight tests are free ?! - chinrests & chinrest papers are a must!!! I certainly would not consider using the opticians for contact lenses trials or checks.....and the seating/waiting area was not particularly pleasant.

I agree with others remarks that they don't care about the customers using the opticians and customer service is extremely poor.

I will definitely pay for my sight test in future I would rather pay and get fantastic customer service, after all its about building a relationship with the customer and gaining repeat business and recommendations to others. I only availed of the free test sight to quickly check my prescription, never again. Tesco Opticians get a big thumbs down from me ......Sorry Tesco, you just don't meet the criteria, very disappointed.
