In 2016 I was referred to the eye clinic in Cardiff in February 2017to have my cataracts removed. It was discovered that I had wet AMD. My driving licence was revoked and I had the course of treatments. The DVLA wanted proof that my eyesight was suitable to apply for my licence again so when my eye test was due I went to Specsavers. I was told that my eyesight hadn't changed enough from my last test and I was told it was not worth having new glasses. I came away with the prescription and noticed that the box that was ticked was advising me to have new glasses. When I contacted the DVLA I was told all I needed was confirmation that my eyesight was 6/12.Itold the man that my prescription was actually -2 6/12 He said that he wasn't concerned about -2 as long as it was 6/12. I went back to Specsavers and explained the position and asked the young lady if I could have a letter confirming my result. They were not really happy to do this but asked me to come back for the letter. The -2 6/12 was confirmed but found that a sentence was included saying that in her opinion I didn't meet the requirements for driving As I had already spoken to the DVLA I can only think they were unhappy that an elderly man who had a free eye test and did not purchase glasses wasn't right. I understand that Specsavers has some contract with the DVLA so she should be happy to know that my licence has been refused
