“Beware - you get what you pay for - cheap and nasty”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Redback on 22/12/2011

I've had three deals with Groupon, two were awful.
The first, a meal voucher for £6, wasn't too bad apart from fairly mediocre food.

The second was a voucher for a boiler service for £39, and that just never happened. The service company pushed all the groupon customers to the end of the queue. We were let down on the day of the first appointment when the engineer didn't turn up, and he then said it would be over two months before they could do the job. Worst of all, Groupon had advertised the value of the service as £125, but I later found that the service company themselves advertised the service for £49 - so Groupon appeared to inflate the value of their deal by £76. Outrageous, I think.

The third deal (and last ever for me) was for an mp3 player. Ordered in October for mid November delivery, it still hasn't arrived, and it's almost Christmas now.

I would rate Groupon customer service about 3 out of 10, as I did eventually get a full refund for the boiler service. The point is there is no free lunch, and rarely is there a decent cheap lunch either. My advice - avoid Groupon. If it looks too good to be true, it is!
