Useless Idiots
I made the mistake of taking out home insurance with Adelaide through IAM Surety in 2011. When my house was broken into and burgled I was castigated by them for not phoning the correct number, even though they didn't actually quote a number in their correspondence.
Adelaide never helped AT ALL, I had to make all the repair arrangements myself. At least they did settle the claim.
I found out later that they claimed a 97% approval rating for their services. I feel that they must have completed the 'surveys' themselves.
I would never use them ever again, plus I found out (too late) thatvI could have got better cover cheaper elsewhere.

Terrible Best Avoided!
Although Staff are very pleasant when trying to get you to sign up for insurance albeit they are pushy and basically do not leave you alone leaving multiple calls per day on my phone. This all changed when I had an accident. They were zero help to the point I wondered why I even bothered having insurance! Not only was I quoted wrong information but I was also accused of not notifying staff of details even though they had just told me it was in the system on the screen in front of them! They just seemed confused themselves as to what was going on half the time and in the end I found it best to deal with a manager. This was also an inconvenience as he was not always available for various reasons. Ended up renewing my insurance with an online company and although I was always sceptical about these companies before, my opinion now is that they couldn't be any worse that Adelaide. Would not recommend to my worst enemy!!

A Dishonest Company
I was looking for cheap car insurance, and I came upon this company, as I am IAM member. First of all their web site is very dated, can’t get a quote even though it gives you the impression it will, but instead you have to leave details for a call back. A chap called me back within the hour. Took my details and then asked what my cheapest quote was, and then took £20! off the price, and started to talk about the benefits of taking out a policy with them, I got the impression he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. When I told him I was going to review the quote, his tone changed and he took a more aggressive approach. He then wanted proof of my quote, but I refused to give, telling him better it or I will go with the other company, as at the end of the day £20 wasn’t much of a saving, and I would have preferred a company I actually heard of. The chap then told me he needed to make his sales target for the night and would I mind if he went onto some price comparison web sites to find a cheap quote that he could use, so I could take the policy there and then and have it done and dusted. I completely refused saying that I didn’t agree with the practice that he was suggesting. He told me the company does this with most of their customers that couldn’t provide proof of a cheaper quote. When I asked the chap to let me speak to a manager, he hung up. Later that night, I started to receive emails from 2 comparison web sites giving me a range of quotes, and then I got an email from IAM surety saying that they can match my cheapest quote and to call them back. This is completely unacceptable behaviour for any company, they had no right to use my information on third party web sites and shows a lack of distrust as they didn’t do as I ask. I would not recommend contacting this company.

Cheap, Communications Not The Best.
After several years of my premiums with Admiral steadily increasing, they reached over £500. I got online quotes which brought this down to £300 and Adelaide beat this by £20, at £280. They specialise in providing insurance to HGV drivers, of which I am one.
On the downside, I haven't received any documents by post, only by email and if I went abroad I don't think the French would be too impressed with that. Also, I told Adelaide that I had two 3-point endorsements but when I received my policy I was shown as having no points on my licence. I emailed them and again gave them full details of my endorsements, but never received a reply. I don't know if this would cause a problem if I ever claimed, but have kept printed copies of the email I sent.
So my verdict would be "Very cheap, customer service not the best". I would still recommend them though.
Great Cover At A Fair Price
VERY comprehensive cover provided at a fair price after completing my I.A.M. Advanced Riding Course. A pleasure to deal with people who could fully understand my requirements instead of the usual 'call centre' set-up with language barrier included for free :-). A great company for people who rate a quality product & service above lowest price as lets face it, you're not gonna get both. They will phone you to discuss your individual requirements & provide a quote which is something which can only be done to a limited degree with online sites. No hard sell. If you like scanning comparison websites & dreaming about a bike you'll probably never buy then perhaps talking to a human being is best avoided as it will mean facing that reality at some point but if you actually want insurance I'd recommend you include Adelaide on your list of potential companies.
