“Ice skating is more stable ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ikMalone343 on 27/07/2022

So got a new bike so like aways you build your way up on them no one wants to throw a new bike down the road. So got a lovely fireblade witch had bt021 on front bt023 on the back. So after getting more confident on the bike start to notice that the front feels like it dosnt want to do anything start to tip in and have to force it abit get it lent ova and with no warning it wants to fold and I mean we're not talking big lean angle like just getting it ova. Did a ride with my brother in law (he on a 125) and start to rain this is were this problem became so much worse that i hated being on my bike not only did I feel every corner that I was going to bin my dream bike while going so slow watching a 125 disappearing with ease was sole destroying. DO NOT BUY these tyers at all. Safe to say I have order new tyers and the bike has been garage till new ones are on all coz of the unpredictable dam scary felling of the front bt021. Honestly spend some more money and get something that make you love the road not hate every minute of the journey like this tyers dose.

“Awful tyre ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rodolfo1974 on 05/09/2018

Fitted as OE on my BMW R1200RT and absolutely hated them. Rear squared off within a few thousand miles. Front would tuck under at normal speeds. I’ve ridden for years as a professional rider (trainer and examiner) but I had no confidence in any condition with this tyre. Totally ruined the riding experience of my bike which was immediately transformed when I fitted another make of tyre. Avoid this tyre at all costs.

“dangerous when cool”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/02/2017

Purchased an SV1000S with B21's about half worn, found them ok on warm days, however, recently riding locally, turned left, went to roll on throttle, front tyre slipped, back slipped then gripped and bike high sided, scared the life out of me.Air temp was about 16 degrees.I have been riding for several years, and spent some time checking tyres and looking for oil on road afterwards.I would advise caution on cooler days with these tyres.

“A Death Trap”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EmzFish on 26/10/2016

I bought my Honda VFR 1200 in June this year. The BT021s were on. At first, as it was the biggest bike I've had so far, I was overly careful at riding. As I got used to it, I picked up speed around the country lanes where I live. After the first two months, I noticed a lot of slipping and "bouncing" when I hit bumps and holes. I started to feel I was losing my skill as a rider and becoming old. Especially in the wet, I started to slow right down to go round corners and tried to stay as upright as possible. Round abouts were a nightmare. If anybody was behind me, they would be right up my back as I would be going at a snails pace. If I was riding with a group, after any corner or round about I would be a fair distance from the rider in front, so would have to speed up to get back behind them. I would have to brake earlier than usual, and gently. If I had to use my brakes harshly or quickly, I would slip to the side. The front tyre wore very unevenly and had a big dip along the right side. I suddenly realised what a GOOD and SKILLED rider I actually was, to have kept the bike upright!! I'm surprised nobody has been killed due to these tyres yet. I know we are meant to check tyres everyday, but you normally know how long a tyre is going to last, so most of us check at certain points in the tyres life. But it throws you when it's life is so short!! And it nearly throws you off the bike too!!! Very, very, VERY DANGEROUS! DO NOT BUY if you are a real biker who is often on their bike! Waste of money!

“worst ever Bridgestone”

★☆☆☆☆

written by cme3 on 23/05/2015

After two generations of Bridgestones on my Blackbird, I had no hesitation in renewing my front tyre with the latest o-21. 1500 miles later it was too bald to keep for the MOT. It had worn like a bishops hat, both sides had worn out, but the centre was hardly touched. Don't waste your money.

“Bat-21 Poor Factory Tire on Concours”

★☆☆☆☆

written by rcarstop on 04/04/2015

The Bat-21's were factory tires for my new 2012 Kawasaki Concours that I purchased new in 2013. I got just a little over 5K miles before the front tire started wearing in a very strange manner. The center was still intact, but to the immediate left / right of center, the tread had worn off quickly and was "greasy" looking. I had to replace the rear tire before 7K miles as it was just worn out. I check the tire pressure before riding and am not an aggressive rider by any stretch. I purchased Bat-23 as replacements trying to keep the same feel of the bike handling. I just replaced the Bat-23's with Michelin Pilot 4 GT's as I am going on a long distance trip and would have to replace the Bat-23's while out on tour. As a side note, I have my 2001 Concours running Dunlop tires and average about 10 ~ 11K per set of tires. I understand there is a weight difference between motors, but I feel the Bat-21's were not the correct tire for the 2012 Concours.

“Bridgestone Bt21”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Felix991 on 14/06/2014

These were fitted as standard on my new r1200rt and the bike felt like a different machine to the previous one which had metzelers fitted. Poor wear on the right side of the front tyre left a ridge that made the bike very difficult to steer, it would try to run on in corners and never inspired confidence from the outset. The rear quickly squared off and after 4000 miles I've had enough, despite there being plenty of (uneven) tread left they are going to be replaced. I have had plenty of unpleasant moments tipping into corners and to cap it all the ride is very harsh.

“Hated them”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Grandma.Fazer8 on 25/01/2014

Came fitted to new Fazer 8, couldn't wait to get rid of them, front felt unsafe and wore strangely, back squared off despite varied riding, don't do A roads or motorway any more than I have too. Been riding 50 years IAM National Observer and Rospa Gold. Used to run them years ago on my 1999 R6 and loved them, so a bit of a culture shock to find them so awful.

“terrible tyres”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 14/10/2013

I have a xjr1300sp with bt021 tyres on, they give no sense of safety at all, the rear has done 4k and is squared off with 2mm left, the front however is dangerous , its worn on the sides far more than the centre so you have a ridge and thats very disconcerting in a corner! It just doesn't give any warning before it lets go...avoid at all costs, buy pilot road, roadsmarts or avon storm.

“Avoid this dangerous, frightening tire!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/09/2013

Bike R1200RT RoSPA Gold Standard Rider. Good Points (yep! there are some for fair weather bikers!) 1) On hot sunny day the performance is good, the tyre warms up and the adhesion fills you with confidence, allowing you to flow with the conditions & ride the bike hard out of corners, even with a pillion & luggage 2) In dry conditions this tyres performance is nothing more than OK Bad Points a) Avoid any type of metal covers, there is no grip on these, even during dry conditions !! (Yep! I now we should avoid these surfaces, however, there are time where this is not possible). b) DO NOT USE THESE TYRES IN THE WET OR EVEN DAMP CONDITIONS!!......WHY? The compound will not give any grip!! The first time I had a slide it was at a relatively low ‘roundabout’ speed, I put it down to diesel or oil on the surface. This has gone on for a few weeks now, having little heart stopping moments along the way. This has now escalated into a big slide on a roundabout, where I almost took a low-side tumble. I inspected the tyres, with a passing fellow biker who saw the slide, we could not believe what we experienced…………….. the tyres were still wet, our fingers just slid off the tyre surface, NO GRIP!! When the tyre dried out (a few mins) the grip returned! We rolled the bike forward over a wet area, the same loss of grip was experienced. Please don’t trust your life or your bike with these tyres

“Great tyre”

★★★★★

written by ghost123 on 30/05/2013

Originally had Dunlop's on my 05 Suzy SV650 pretty good but only lasted about 6K miles. They went lumpy and caused me great concern. My local tyre fitter suggested Bridgestone Battlax BT 020's these lasted well and gave a great ride and brilliant grip. Back wore out at about 12K had a Battlax BT021 fitted worked very well. Gave a stable feel to the back and worked nicely with the BT020. About 2K miles later the front tyre wore out and I had a Battlax BT021 fitted. Totally changed the characteristics of the bike cornering is more positive and lighter, grip is brilliant wet or dry and I am very happy with this tyre.

“Fantastic Tyres”

★★★★★

written by chargersrob on 10/04/2013

Before I got these Bridgestone's, i had Michelin Pilot Power's. When i had those put on my Yamaha XJ6N was a different bike altogether. It would tip in with ease and hold a line incredibly well. Then i had these Bridgestone's fitted, and my motorcycling brain had to be re-calibrated to how good they are. They aren't as sporty as the Michelin's, and you can tell that by the profile and the actual compound of the rubber, but they seem to grip and pull 10 times better. I understand where people are coming from when they say the bike feels like it wants to topple over, but if you TRUST the tyres, they WILL take care of you and your machine. Get it onto the side of the tyre and these tyres will pull you out of any corner you throw them into. Yes, it feels different to other tyres. Yes, the tyre will slide if you're an anarchist with your right hand. But what tyre doesn't?! At the end of the day, tyres are all about preference. So a review on them is pretty much irrelevant because as proved by these tyres, conflicting opinions are inevitable. But i'd hate to see so many bad reviews for these fantastic tyres and Bridgestone getting a bad name when they don't deserve it whatsoever.

“Dangerous!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/03/2013

Had BT020's for years and trusted them impecably, disappointed when I couldn't get hold of them anymore. Tried a pair of BT021's on my '98 R1 last year and at first I thought they were ok. After a few hundred miles commuting/sunday rides, the front went 'off' almost overnight. This led to several front end slides in good dry warm weather, and not pushing hard. It scared the living daylights out of me thinking it was my riding to fault/bad road surface. I changed he tyre for a different one, and the symptom of front end 'washout' went away. I'm not a looney rider, and I'm in the saddle every day. It makes you wonder why Bridgestone came out with the BT023 within 12 months! Unless you ride like a nun, and get the tyres very cheap, AVOID them!

“Battlax by 021 are very capable tyres”

★★★★☆

written by Erthkwake on 15/01/2013

I have done 22k miles on an er6f using bt 021's in all weathers over approximately a two year period I have also done 20k miles on a versus 650 2010 model running bt 021's and they have never let me down these tyres are quality tyres. Thinking about trying the 023's next though. I get 10k from the back and double for the fronts. I ride every day unless there is ice on the roads.

“Not the Bridgestones that i used to know”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KenWarrington on 24/10/2012

The Bridgestone 021 is a dangerous tyre in my opinion. I've had 020's and 023's in the past and they had my full trust in them. I had a Triumph ST1050 earlier this year and was pleased to see Bridgestones on the bike when i bought it. On the first ride i couldn't figure out why the bike wouldn't go round corners, the bike would want to topple and tip into bends. And so while cautiously limpping home it won and the bike went down, they were 021's. A couple of bikes later, a CBF1000, also with 021's won't go round corners. When the wheel is on the bike the curved profile may look good, but i can see in different lights and in shadows a shamfer on each side of the profile. Just like others have said, my front has worn more on the right than the left. It's frightning, if the bars are at 10oclock or 2oclock, the bike just wants to go down. Pick anything else.

Billdevo's Response to KenWarrington's Review

Written on: 16/12/2012

I have the 2012 Sprint GT with 021s and have just done 3700 k in just under 2 months. The front is shot, the back still has plenty and while it hangs on alright I find that I tend to get pushed out more when cornering. Has to be a better alternative as replacing every 2 months is not affordable. Any ideas??

Kenwarrington's reply to Billdevo's Comment

Written on: 21/12/2012

Hi, i went for Michelin Pilot road tyres only because my tyre dealers had an offer on but i did look at the reviews on the net before purchasing. And the Pilots are well sticky, will let me get on with looking like a nutter but i'm not expecting long life from them. My TDM900 has got Bridgestone 023's on and i find that these are an excellent tyre and will suit all occasions, touring and blasting with long life. My VFR800fi has Dulop Sportmax on, only because the bike came with them and i'm finding these to be a good all rounder with a good life span, i've never been a Dunlop man before due to bad press on one of their previous tyres. And so those are my fave three at the moment, but please do the reasearch.
Some say........ he's rediculously fast
and that he cares about the size of his chicken strips, all we know

Bridgestones and Triumph do not normally mix well. A neighbour of mine uses Michelin pilots on his speed triple and swears by them.

i have heard from quite a few Triumph riders the same thing.

“Same problem s others with the front RH wear”

★★☆☆☆

written by mash2 on 05/07/2012

Yeah, interesting to read other reviews, as the front RHS is wearing really badly compared to the rest of the tyre. Done about 2K miles on them and looking to change already, or just turn left for the next 2K miles.

“Not great tyres.”

★★☆☆☆

written by drewzzr on 30/05/2012

BMW GT1300GT BMW list BT021's as the recommended figment. the bike came with them on and I don't like them. They do a job, but they wear unevenly. The grip is ok and they lasted 8000 miles but the first 25% -30% of the tyres life is spent getting used to the vauge feeling when initiating a bend, exit ramp or roundabout. The last 25% -30% of the tyres life, shows that the front wears alarmingly on the off side shoulder, which doesn't add up because the rear tire bears witness to heavier wear bias on the near side. In summary, they grip ok in wet & dry, and last a while. However, the wear characteristics will make you want to change earlier. Both front and rear seem to have the same life. I'm a smooth rider, 70% motorway & 30% back roads. The softer, cornering tread area, cups badly, front & rear and the rear squares off, in such a way as to require a firm shove on the inside bar to tip her over and then a heart stopping, falling over sensation when committed. I'm looking for something else. The old BT020's were not great on my old Yamaha Fazer. If the BT 023's are any better, let me know, please.

“BT021 recall.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by drblackdog on 14/09/2011

At least in my opinion there should be one. If you are currently running BT021's I would like to hear about your experiences to ascertain if the performance I'm getting from them is an issue for them all, or if I have just got a bad one. It was already on the bike when I got it, and had really only been scrubbed in. Maybe 1000k on it or so and since then I've put another 2k on it (this is the rear). The front tyre was off the shelf when I picked the bike up (Pilot Road and it's performance is rubber magic). This tyre is dangerous. It never really inspired confidence in the first 1000km I rode the bike, but most of this was taking it easy getting the feel of a new machine. A couple of warmer rides over the 'takas it felt skittish, not letting me tip in as quickly as would be normal without starting to step out. Letting me know that pushed any harder (not that hard i might add, it was two up and you know there was no way she was letting it get too spirited) highsiding was not out of the question. Then the unthinkable happened on a relatively short city ride one morning. Completely dry road conditions through a left hand corner at maybe 40kph. A corner I have confidently taken many times far faster on a number of other bike/tyre combinations. With no warning whatsoever the back overtook the front and both bike and I were sliding off ass first across the wrong lane. If I was to offer any form of defence for it, I might say that it could have been a touch warmer but that's just rubbish. I have expected and received more from stonecold shinkos. Today the bike got it's first reasonable run since then, over the Haywards and around the inlet to see how it felt and my impression of that damn loop hasn't changed a whisker. Road conditions were premium and it is less than halfway through what I would consider should be it's usable life. At no point in my ride did I push any harder than maybe 70% of what I have been easily comfortable at on any of my other bikes. I am not a fast rider, 70% of my comfortable is probably 50% of someones who can actually ride quickly, and that only furthers my point. I'm not saying I'm a bad rider, I'm saying that the tyre behaves badly. It is extremely ill mannered at decidedly unextreme lean angles. I would go as far is to say that it is not fit for purpose. If anyone elses experience with them is anything like mine, and we were in America we would class action sue there arses off. I have ridden on Bridgestones in the past and I have never had any complaints, but I sincerely doubt when I replace it in the very near future that it will be with another Bridgestone. In fact I know it won't. I'll have a Pilot Road to match the front please because they feel like they're made of rubber, not recycled Fanta bottles. blackdog.

I’ve just put one of these on my speed twin and keep getting issue with traction control kicking in every time I pull away, even gently. Thought it was my ABS but reading these reviews it could be the tyre. Any pro/trainer riders out there validate my suspicion? Traction control came on the dry and in the wet. I was not being heavy handed either.
