“WARNING Long delays - avoid the Halifax and go elsewhere”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bimblehead on 21/07/2014

I am having the same problem with the Halifax as all these other reviewers Mortgage Promise was very fast, appointment booked for MMR interview - again that was all sorted within days. The Halifax happily took £1500 to book the mortgage as well as £300 valuation fee. A valuation was done within 48 hours. But since then a nightmare. They kept lying saying they had sent a form to my employers to fill in when they hadn't done. Eventually they sent it but now there are more delays. I am supposed to exchange at the end of this week but I am worried I will lose the house as despite ringing every single day - and sending emails as well - there is no sign of it. I wish I had gone elsewhere and regret going with the Halifax as they have caused me huge amounts of stress. A very unpleasant institution to deal with that doesn't give a fig about giving its customers a service. If they couldn't do the mortgage then they should have said and I would have taken my business elsewhere.

I am in London but never visited a branch - I did the whole thing over the phone. Ironically yest, day after writing this, the full offer arrived in the post. It has taken six weeks from MMR interview approval. I think I expected it to arrive faster because the first part of the application - promise, full chat and then valuation was done so fast so didn't expect any sort of delay. It would be good if Halifax could give more of an estimation of time scale. Had they warned it would be a while - maybe they are very busy - then I wouldn't have worried so much, could have told everyone in the chain and wouldn't have written the review I did.
