I think the nokia 8810 is good to have if you want to show off and if you dont use ur phone that much. As the battery doesn't last a long time I would suggest you get a car charger for it and charge it every night.

written by Christian. on 19/01/2002

When I first bought my nokia 8810 phone I had the same troubles that most people complain about but I fixed it! The problem with mine was when I put the battery in, one of the four little gold spring things on the phone wasn't reaching the battery, so i just pulled it out a bit so when I put the battery in it was putting pressure on the one that it previously couldn't reach. Problem solved! I hope that fixes it for all the other people who are tempted to throw their phone out the window. (I nearly did :) )

“I've had nothing but grief with this nokia 8810 phone,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by odious. on 07/01/2002

I've had nothing but grief with this nokia 8810 phone, although its fully charged it turns itself off when it fancies it, its not dual band so getting a signal is tough - its not helped by the fact that it often displays an incorrect sim message, need a matchstick to press the buttons, the chromed scratched and peeled off (dont keep it in your pockets with keys and change), after 2 months i gave up with it, and am now the proud owner of shiny Siemens SL45. Its not I dont like Nokia, but the 8810 is rubbish, putting aesthetics above practicality.

★★☆☆☆

written by xaus. on 29/12/2001

My nokia 8810 phone was made in 11/1998 but it looks brand new, thanks to a new cover, it cost me 25$. I bought 8810 for only one reason, it is very rare and it looks realy nice. It also has many good features and it truely was the best phone of its time. But time has shown that it is not a good phone at all, Frank Nouvo designed it to be beautiful (and it is) but he forgot that people want to use phones, not look at them. Beauty over practicality is not the answer!

Now that there are 8850 and 8310 (and soon 7650) Nokia has truely made the best phones of there time once again, just like 8810 was in 1998.

I have kept my 8810 in great brand new condition. If you buy the leather case for it, you'll have no worries. Battery doesn't last very long, but enough to get you through the day. Infra-red port is cool. Any 8810 will have sentimental value to its owner, as it's not available in shops. Some sites I found selling 8810's sell them for about £350 and up.

THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST PHONE EVER!!

I think an absolute gem of a phone, considering its age in comparison to its later model the 8850, it seems to be able to turn many heads with its chrome finish, anyone considering buying this phone in England should, cos its brilliant and over here it is very very rare!

I agree with Chris here, only problem with my 8810 is after 4 years of loyal service (including a swim in Sydney harbour) the battery is near the end of it's life. Anyone know where to find a replacement battery in the UK?

Chris mate, have a look on www.Ebay.co.uk and search for 8810 and there is usally batteries on there for sale, most of them brand new and boxed. Also take it to the Carphone Warehouse, as I have done to get my phone fully revamped including new battery (the flat one not the old battery that sticks out). They will send it off to Nokia for you to get it sorted and return it to the store again, this should take about 14 days though so get a replacement phone.

written by Billy. on 06/07/2001

Yet, after so many years the Nokia 8810 mobile phone has looks that just have been released from Nokia. Very elegant, makes even the new Nokia 8850 be ashamed because of the shiny look-a-like. Although I had another one, from the first mass part of release which had many problems (auto shut-off) etc. But this one, for over one year has no problem at all. And I really feel proud of it, cause here in Greece it is very very difficult to track a man carry this awsome cell...and about use? Very useful...calendar, calculator, alarm, games...should I say more??? If you can still find one in the market, buy it...It's collectors item!

1. It wouldn't read the sim;
2. Replacement batteries last only for an estimated 3 mos.
3. Not charging sometimes.
4. Cuts the call in 3 minutes of use (auto shut-off)

★☆☆☆☆

written by Andrew Smolinski. on 10/09/2000

Here is just a "small" list of things that went wrong with my Nokia 8810 in 4 weeks:-

1)Battery wouldn't charge
2)Vibrating feature broke
3) Didn't recognize SIM cards
4) Turned itself off at least 8 times a day
5) More chance of winning the lottery than having a signal
6) Even touch the case and its scratched
7) Wouldn't turn on first time EVER!
8) Frequent crashing

This fone is elasticated pants. Avoid like the plague buy anything but this fone. A designer icon it may be but not much use if its always being repaired at Nokia service centre.
