“Does not work”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 02/01/2014

I saw the Giff Gaff adverts and thought it all sounded great. I checked the predicted signal coverage which seemed good for my area so I sent off for a SIM which arrived quickly. It was easy to activate the SIM, but unlike other networks I could not get any indication of signal without first putting some credit on the SIM. I paid up £10 and tried again. Still no signal indication, but after a while I did receive a text with my number. Still could not get a signal so I went online to contact an agent. Quite a quick response to tell me that there was a faulty mast in my area that would be fixed soon and gave a link to a website that would give me details. Sure enough the web site reported possible problems in my postcode due to a fault and the fault report is updated every hour. I waited, and waited, but still the fault report remains (updated every hour). I did ask the agent how I could get my money returned as I could not use the network, but surprise, surprise I did not get a reply to this question. I have now thrown the SIM away and put my loss down to experience, but would like to let anyone else thinking of trying Giff Gaff know that I suggest they save their time and money, it is not the bargain network it is claimed to be.

I had a very similar experience but because they stated that the coverage for my area was goo, I got three Sims for my family. Most of the time we have had no service yet we are 100 yards from an O2 mast/network. Giffgaff also advise contacting O2 which I did but they will not report the issue without an O2 number not a Giffgaff number despite the fact that giffgaff piggy backs on O2 network. O2 services show everything working perfectly then the agent replied that problems were shown on the system, just another BS answer to add to previous replies which seems to be there way of getting rid of the query even though they did not satisfactorily answer it. I would fully concur that this provider should be ignored as an option. I have now left them leaving about £20 worth of credit from our three phones but very happy with the service from t-mobile, albeit significantly more expensive....I suppose it comes down to the old adage, you get what you pay for! In real terms, I would not give giffgaff a single star
