“This was our first ever cruise. We travelled as two...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 14/07/2009

This was our first ever cruise. We travelled as two families from Norway.
Our cruise started in Barcelona, onto Naples, Rome, Florence, Villefranche and Marseille before going back to Barcelona. From entering the port at Barcelona, One hour later, we were in our room- not bad!
Our room was to house two adults and 3 children - 8,11 and 13 years old- fine. Food was okay, and drinks were expensive (7 dollars average) Service okay but annoying (american smile, good morning sirrrrr, have a nice day sirrrrr, etc) Ports of call- naples- horrible, Rome- couldn't be bothered to travel 1 and half hours, florence- did Pisa instead-okay, villefranche- fantastic place, Marseille- nice and frenchy. Happy to find Villefranche and have decided to holiday there next year (Monaco, Nice, Cannes) If we cruise again , we will try an English line instead, Don't like Americans I suppose.

never aagin, busy ship, too many people, fighting for sunbeds, problem with our seapasses for buying drinks onboard throughout the cruise and desk reception staff unhelpful, cabin staff very helpful though with cabin problems etc, good entertainment, not happy about being kicked of the ship early on departure day and having to spend a day in barcelona aiport until flight at 19.00, smoking allowed in some of the bars and smell of smoke throughout main area of ship, hence namename "the smokey boat" may cruise again but with a better cruiseline, there are better ones, appears RC trading on its older reputation from few years ago.

“This was our first RCCL cruise for 5 years and we did...”

★★★★☆

written by on 07/09/2010

This was our first RCCL cruise for 5 years and we did notice a deterioration in standards. The organised tours were expensive compared with doing your own thing e.g Rome by train 9 euros return including unimited use of the metro compared to 89 Euros for their Rome on your own bus trip. We were due to visit Toulon but berthed at La Seyne-Sur-Mer which using the RCCL's own words "is some considerable distance from Toulon" but we will take you there by bus for $10. We just had a pleasant walk into La Seyne-Sur-Mer. The reason I was given by Customer Relations for not going directly to Toulon was "it is a navel port and they do not allow cruise ships to bearth there" obviously no one told the Captain of the last cruise ship we were on as he did go right in to Toulon.

★★★☆☆

written by on 24/02/2010

I was excited to go on the Vogager of the Seas because I'd been on 2 other Royal Carribean cruises with great results. They cost more than Carnival, so I was expecting more. I was disappointed. We waited in line for 2 hours just to board the ship. We had booked mytime dining, thinking that would be convenient. Sadly, the service really suffered. 2 times we waited for 10-15 minutes after being seated, just to be acknowleded and waited on. When we visited the Johnny Rockets restaurant onboard, we had to wait in line for 40 minutes just to be seated. They told us 15 minutes, but it was 40. While we were all waiting for a seat, they were dancing & entertaining inside the restaurant, so people weren't leaving. When there's a wait, they should just serve the food and move on. I was also disappointed with the food selections in the dining room. Each night they had a list of rather bland things that could be ordered any night (salmon, chicken breast & sirloin) and then 2 or 3 other selections. One was usually an Indian dish or something and then a couple of other selections. I was surprised at how limited it was. And the quality wasn't as good as we had on the Carnival Conquest. On a bright side, the ship is beautiful and the cabin service was very good. We had to miss our stop in Jamaica due to weather and when we arrived back in Galveston the fog kept us on the ship until 4 PM. But, we had a good time just relaxing.

written by on 01/02/2010

This was third cruise with Voyager. First Caribbean, second Mediterrean, both with friends, third mediterranean again, with 9 family members. Excellent from start to finish. So much so, family booking again this year. Brilliant ship, excellent facilities, wonderful staff. Loved the fact it catered so well for the kids as well as adults. Cannot find fault with any procedure from booking to leaving. Missed the fact we didn't have a balcony room third time around but, with so many of us going, we all wanted to be together. Can't wait to go back on, and look forward to first trip on Oasis!!

★★★★★

written by mrsmelanieskinner on 08/12/2009

the most wonderful honeymoon anyone could ask for, voyager of the seas was such a fantastic ship.
the staff are so welcoming so helpful they really do make your stay onboard the best anyone could ask for
the food is out of this world we ate mostly at windjammers which i think is the best choice onboard,
if this will be anyones first cruise you will be booking your second visit very soon as did we,
the port of call depends on your cruise, we only got off a few times as we found the ship has so much to do that you really dont have to get off at all, but do especially Rome :-)
the staterooms are so nice the stateroom attendents are wonderful from the moment you enter your room they know your name and always remember you throughout your stay William our stateroom attendent was wonderful always greeted us always friendly always there for your every needs we have asked for him during our next stay
not sure what else to say but book yourself a cruise and have the most wonderful time as we did you'll love it i promise

“we have just come back from the voyager of the seas...”

★★★☆☆

written by chester1066 on 02/06/2009

we have just come back from the voyager of the seas our first ever cruise. although we managed to enjoy it, we were treated dreadfully. freezing cold pools 100's if not 1000,s of complaints and they still lied about the pools being warm. my wife did not use the pool once and at least 2 people i meet had nose bleeds from the icy cold pools with no heating!

airborne chemicals with clearly marked toxic symbols were being used near to where my kids were playing which made us feel ill, when we complained we were told they were only using water, despite staff wearing breathing apparatus.

worst thing of all, you have no rights what so ever out at sea, when somebody arranged a meeting on the last day where we all signed a petition and an amazing 500 + strong crowd attended, royal carribbean employed a film crew and a legal eagle to film the whole thing.

no rights what so ever, no protection in accordance to european laws and no 1988 data protection laws applied when we protested to the filming.

the captains very words on the first night were "health and safety on board is everyone responsibility" until you report something and its first ignored and then secondly covered up, worst holiday customer service i have encountered anywhere in the world very very upset!

had a letter today apologising for the ship leaving dry dock incomplete and not ready to voyage, so why the disgusting cover up!

cant knock the waiters or ground staff though, meet some very nice and interesting people, who i commend.

overall we still feel very disgusted by royal caribbean's attitude to profit over customer satisfaction & health and safety....

holiday 7-8 out of 10 customer service & satisfaction -10 out of 10

“I've been on various cruise ships (celebrity, NCL,...”

★★★★★

written by Commented on 06/04/2009

I've been on various cruise ships (celebrity, NCL, Disney, Crystal) - and not one of them has kept us as entertained as Royal Caribbean's Voyager class ships. I've been on 4 RCCL ships total (so far!) and 3/4 were Voyager Class.

The food is average, not a ship to go on for gourmet food, it is what it is, its worth it. Portofino, Chops Grille make a perfect option if you dont want to dine in the Main Dining Rooms. The Windjammer is good, themed nights each day and the food is quite nice!

Windjammer - Buffet Restaurant (open 4 times a day, breakfast, lunch, snack & dinner)
Portofino - Italian Restuarant (over 13's, open dinner & on sea day's lunch!)
Chopps Grille - Upscale steak house restaurant (open for dinner and on some ships, lunch)
Jade - Sometimes part of the windjammer restuarant, asian fusion restuarant serving stir fry's, sushi and noodles!! Open lunch, dinner & afternoon snack.
Room Service - included, 24/7

The entertainment is unreal, most bars at night time have some sort of jazz singer, comedian or something going on! (of course some of them dont)

Drinks are not included, but RCCL have that lovely unlimited fountain drink pass, which you buy at the beggining of your vacation, which entitles you to unlimited Sodas, fizzy dinks and fruit juices!

Kids Stuff is amazing, my kids did not go into one kid club session and still were never bored, with ice skating, games arcade, card room, rollerblading, shows, cinema, bingo, rock climbing and so much more! ( and that doesnt include the kids club!) I think the only time my kids used the guide for the kids clubs is during the free hour for the arcade (in which all games were free!)

Royal Promenade is a great addition to cruises, with seattles best coffee and ben n jerrys ice cream along with some boutique shops, in which gifts can be bought with no hassle & sports bar, in which the latest football and rugby games are shown. And on some nights the promenade lit up, with a all star parade! One of my many highlights!

written by DeniseP on 09/10/2008

We booked private tours (Romeinlimo) for most of the ports except for Villafranche and Palermo. Villafranche was easy to visit on our own but in Palermo we ended up hiring a taxi as the local area near the port was not appealing. One note, we would not purchase the wine package next time. A more extensive list is available without the package. Overall we enjoyed cruising and will travel this way again.

Terrific New Year's Cruise; Cruise Director was the best; shows were well done, the food in the dining room was very well prepared; and the waiters were attentive and friendly.

The activities on board were varied and interesting. We've taken many cruises and this one was the best.

written by Sydney Phillips on 12/08/2008

Considering the size of the Voyager of the Seas ship, this ship it was the best we have been on for service, facilities, security. Photographer tried really hard to get good pictures even if you weren't buying. Tremendous beds, the best sleep ever.

Have been with Cunard (QE2 never again), Princess (very good), Thomson (underrated), Airtours (average), P&O (good but a bit staid), and Royal Caribbean (Yes Yes Yes.) This was May 24th - 31st. Mediterranean Cruise.

“This was our 5th cruise and the 1st with Royal Caribbean. ”

★★★★☆

written by tonyp on 11/04/2006

This was our 5th cruise and the 1st with Royal Caribbean.
It started well with a flight from Newcastle to London Heathrow and then on to Miami.
Immigration at the airport was quick but we had to wait for more than one hour for a bus to take us to the Radison hotel for our nights stay.
Embarcation was long and tiring.
First impression of the ship was WOW!!!!.
It took until we had sailed away from Miami before the final delivery of our cases. The cabin was very good and the attendant was very helpful.
The first evening meal was cold but all the others where ok. Menu is the same for each week as is the entertainment.
We gave the waiter service breakfast a try on the first morning but it was cold and came with only one slice of toast (had much better on the Spirit and the Sunbird) self service after that.
First stop was Labadee. Very nice but take somthing smaller than a $20 bill as the beach attendants are always looking for a tip for sorting out your sunbed.
Next stop Jamacia. We went up Dunns river falls and dolphin cove. We think it was our best day.
George town in Grand Cayman the next day and we took in some of the shops, should have gone to seven mile beach for the day.
Our last stop was Cossumel. It had been hit by hurricane Wilma and they was no piers for the ship to dock. Tenders to and from the shore if you wanted to get of the ship. We went on a trip to Tulom to see the Mayan ruins. This involved a fast boat over to Mexico and then a bus ride. The tour guide asked us all to give the driver, the Tulom guide and himself a good tip in recognition of the service they had given us. I would call this begging!!!.
The last day was at sea but you have to stand in a line for about an hour to get your passports back, not good!!.
Most shows are aimed at the American guests and we thought them to be poor. The ice show was somthing not to be missed.
Photos are taken on the ship and also out on trips. They are good value for money ranging between $20 and $30.
All the staff are very friendly but I could not help but think that its all to do with the tip at the end of the holiday.
We had a very nice time but we have been on better cruises with companies that would look to be of a lower standard because of the age of their ships.
One final thing be aware that The American Homland Security will smash the locks on your case if they want to look inside. We have cases with a central combination lock and this was broken by them. They say they can do this without any claim against them.

“The Royal Caribbean, Voyager of the Seas ports stopped...”

★★★★★

written by cruisefans on 18/03/2006

The Royal Caribbean, Voyager of the Seas ports stopped at islands that were damaged (some extensively) by recent hurricanes but have done substancial rebuilding such as Georgetown and Cozumel. Labadee was a great beach day and we even bought a nice painting. There was even local entertainment on the island with dancing music and fire eating. There are also lots of water activities other than the beach that you can enjoy at a cost!! Ocho Rios was unfortunately a rain day but we still were able to walk from the dock (the only docked location on this cruise) to all the shopping. There is a lot of shopping if you like for things like jewerly, coffee and souvenirs. One thing to be awear of was that we were approached to purchase drugs several times while walking with our 2 and 3 year old. There is a beach very close to the dock which we were unable to enjoy due to the weather. Georgetown was also a nice spot for shopping and beaches. We ended up at the closest beach which was a short taxi ride in a van holding 10-12 people for $4 p/p each way. Great beach. For those that don't mind a walk you could walk it. Best to take a taxi there and if you feel up to it, walk back to the ship. The walk can also depend on where your ship anchors as there were about 6 ships in the day we were there and 3 areas where your tender can arrive on shore. Cozumel has recently started to open lots of the shops on the main strip. At the old dock is an open area shopping plaza with lots of jewerly, souvenirs and a pharmacy. You can still see that many stores, although open are still not completed. If you have children in diapers, bring plently as these are not available on the ship and depending on your port, may be difficult to find. We went during the European school break which made for a nice mix of guests. We did not find the ship overcrowded or over run with children, there is plently of space for everyone and we found the shopping area on ship a great place to hang out and people watch. For dancing you must check out the Crows nest (14 th floor) for great live latin music. There is also the disco which was fun. The ice show was a hit with the kids. We did put our 3 year old in the on board ship activites on the last day and she loved it. We have done about 5 other cruises with other lines and this is the best family cruise that we have done. We also think that for older children (teens) this has a lot of fun to offer. The main dining room is beautiful. Many of the same selections in the dining room can be found in the buffet. The Portofino restaurant was a bit of a let down for the extra cost ($20 p/p). The same menu was offered in the main dining room the next night. If you are looking for 5 star dining HAL is number one for us.

Royal Caribbean, Voyager of the Seas - This was a great cruise experience.
We'll be going on another one this year and, despite it being 75-$100 more pp. for the week (compared to Carnival), it's well worth it :).
