Vax Mach 5 Pet U90-M5

I am surprised and very disappointed that this vaccum didn't pick up dog hair. It feels very powerful but that is not enough to remove my dog's hair. My dog has quite soft hair and the vaccum just sits on the carpet doing nothing.

When my Dyson eventually gave up after 12 years, I thought I'd try a Vax.

The first Vax model I bought stopped working after three months. Customer Services kindly sent me another one out, this time a Vax Mach VX Pet. I was delighted, as we have two cats, so thought it would be a perfect option.

Unfortunately, I couldn't be more disappointed. If I want cat hair to be picked up off the carpet, I have to take the hose out of its slot, get on my hands and knees, and suck the hair up using the handheld tool. When using it on the hard floor option, it more often than not fails to pick up bits of grass, dirt etc, and once again I have to use the handheld tool. When I bend down to use this tool, the vacuum tends to tip over and I have been hit on the back a number of times.

Also, if you use it for too long, it cuts out and you have to wait an hour before switching it on again. I used it to vacuum my child's playroom (a normal sized bedroom), and this was enough to make it cut out.

I have never written a review for anything before, but every time I use my Vax, I get so stressed out that I tell myself I must write a review so that other people can avoid this dreadful machine. I have spoken to Customer Services once again, but this time all I was advised to do was to clean the filters. I have done this, and am no better off. Avoid at all costs.

Bought Vax Mach 5 May 2009. No better than previous Dyson! Heavy to manouvre on thick carpet. Sent back to Vax Feb 2010 when motor failed. returned 1week later with new motor fitted but machine badly scratched as if pulled across workshop floor. Returned to Vax after phoning to complain and have now received back in same condition. Here we go again!!!! Conditions say if machine is returned to them in dirty condition ie dust bag dirty and filters not clean they will charge £35 and send back. Can I do the same for agro and being without machine???

This machine has good and bad points hence the three stars. On the plus side, it was kids olay to assemble, it is brilliant at picking up dirt and dog hairs and has a fantastic turbo brush. The tools are very accessible and the hose is clear which is good for spotting a clog and I do like the auto rewinde hose. On the minus side,it is very heavy and cumbersome and I found it difficult to manoeuvre around the floor, possibly because of the weight. I really like Vax machines and was a bit disappointed with this one but it will not put me off buying their products.

got the Vax Mach 5 Pet a couple of weeks ago. From the photos on the website and on the box, I thought it would be a lot bigger than it actually was, which was concerning due to the lack of storage space in my home, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was smaller than expected. The instructions were easy to understand and there were plenty of pictures. It was fairly easy and quick to assemble. It was easy to operate and to move around my home and it worked well on both carpets and laminate floors. It did not have any problem picking up dust and dirt and I was surprised how many pet hairs it picked up that I didn't even realise were embedded in the carpet! I did find it quite heavy to pick up though, so the stairs were somewhat of a challenge. However, it is still a lot lighter than my previous upright cleaner. I found the cord rewind to be very useful and it worked well. The various attachments were particularly good for getting into corners and around the back of my furniture and unlike my old cleaner, it was just as powerful with the attachments attached. Being able to store the attachments on the actual cleaner, was also a bonus. With the press of a button, the dirt container was very easy to take off and empty and to put back on. I would definitely recommend the Mach 5 Pet to anyone who has pets or just wants a powerful bag-less cleaner.

I have had the hoover for a few weeks and I love it. The same as some others when I unpacked it I was worried about putitng it together but it really only took 5-10 minutes. The suction is superb, especially the turbo head for the stairs...I was actually amazed at how well it picked up. The carpet looked new!! I would def recommend this hoover whether they have pets or not. Only downside i would say is that it is a bit heavy compared to what im used to but the pros of this hoover def outweigh that little con.

This is a great vax machine. When I took it out of the box I was very impressed. It only takes a few minutes to put together using the instruction book. I was amazed at how mush pet hair it picked up and having 4 dogs I have tried many pet cleaners and been dissapointed. This machine is easy to use and empty,and the turbo brush is great on upholstery and carpets and the stairs. It is very easy to adjust to go from hard floors to carpet and the adjustable handle make it very comfortable to use, The recoiling flex is another good feature and very quick. This machine is a must if you have pets in the house and you will not be dissapointed.

I have just recently got this model. Got to say when I opened the box and saw all the pieces to be put together I was a bit daunted. However after I got them out and had a look at the instruction book it was all quite clear and had it assembled in less than 20 minutes.

It has plenty of tools and the extension tubes allow them to get into the more difficult places. I especially like the Turbo tool, lets you get into those hard to reach places with little loss of power. I was able to do all 10 stairs with the extension with the Vax just at the bottom with ease and no sign of machine falling or becoming unsteady.

I like to think I keep my house as tidy as is practical. However I was surprised how much dirt and fluff the Vax picked up. Was a little shocked ..but also pleased. I have never had a bagless cleaner before but after this wont go back to using one with a bag. So easy to see when it needs emptying, ensuring it is always working at its best, and can empty after each use without worrying about using bags. Sure not using a bag must be more environmentally friendly.

I have a cat and this machine is designed to help with pet hairs and other associated issues. Well after using house is now pet hair free and don't mind our cat moulting in the summer as cleaning up with now be a breeze.

Only thing I would say is that I think that where the lead enters the machine at the bottom and be a problem sometimes.

However overall I got to give it a 9 out of 10 and might look forward to hovering now.

I have recently used the Vax Mach 5 pet for the first time. As soon as it arrived I got busy assembling it! It was easy enough to put together but I would advise a 1st time buyer to actually sit and go through the instructions before trying to piece it together. It isn't 'rocket science' but you do need to be aware of certain elements of the assembly. I am a single Mum and have no male help in the house and if I can assemble it anybody can!

When I had finally put it together,(it took me about half an hour from start to finish), I couldn't wait to use it! It has so many functions that you wouldn't get with a 'run of the mill' hoover. You can hoover laminate flooring and with a quick step on a pedal it adjusts automatically to hoover your rug without any fuss or bother. If, like me, you have carpets it adjusts to diferent styles from thin cord carpets to thick shagpile ones quite easily. The suction is fantastic and my carpets are looking great. It also has many different tools that can get into those hard to reach places, like the back of your sofa for instance! I have a dog and she is forever on my smaller sofa and you would be surprised at how quickly those pesky dog hairs creep into the crevices of the sofa!!

The tools store away nicely on the side in their own purpose made slots. The cable is also a great length and reaches from my living room into my hallway with no problems.

I have always bought Dyson Hoovers but from now on I think that I am a convert to Vax, not only are they cheaper but in my opinion they are much better quality and do the job just as well, if not better!

If you have animals, or even if you dont, and you are looking for a versatile vacuum cleaner then this is definately the one for you.

The only downside is that it is a little on the heavy side, I would have preferred it to be a little lighter but still a great all round cleaner and with a 6 year guarantee what more could you ask for?

I am very impressed with this hoover. At first when i unpacked it i thought it looked to big and clumpy, but after assembling and using it for the first time I found it very easy to move about and very good suction. I hoover a few times a day and even after i had hoovered the night before this hoover amazed me with how much it still managed to pick up.

i have 3 small dogs and 2 young children and this hoover picks up everything. from the dogs hair, muddy paw prints to the soggy trod in biscuit.

I am loving the turbo tool attachment its like having a mini hoover, it has a rotating brush as well so picks up great, its great for hoovering small hard to reach areas and ive just tried it out in my car. The seats and the floor look amazing not a dog hair or crumb insight its like having a new car, even though car carpet is normally quite hard to get dog hairs out as it sort of embeds itself within the carpet and with previous hoovers ive had to practicly scrub the carpet with the crevice tools, this turbo tool done it with ease.

I even love the auto rewing cord button which i havent seen on any other upright cleaner just makes hoovering up more easier
