The Portals Nous Kasai Hotel is in a quiet residential area of Majorca.
It is a short but steep walk back from the beach, not suitable for those less active.
Hotel probably suits mature adults best, as there is not much for children or teenagers to do. 3* is probably a bit generous. The pool area is clean and pleasant, but be warned the children's area of the pool is still 3 feet deep, which is no good for younger children, and the main pool is too deep for non-swimmers.
The evening menu was limited (there are only 70 rooms), and the chef often made a strange choice of veg to mix with your meal, but everything was well enough cooked. There is no air conditioning or TV in the rooms. The decor is a bit dated. Even in the reception and outside there is an AstroTurf area which is a bit worn now, where you can sunbathe, but everything was very clean. It is about 3/4 mile to the village or the marina, which have a reasonable selection of bars & eateries.
Sounds horrible doesn't it? but somehow this hotel had a bizarre appeal. We had a good time and we liked it. I may have to go back because I still haven't worked out why.
If you can get a good deal, try it. If you don't expect too much, this won't disappoint.
Additional points...
Taxi from airport to hotel cost 25 Euros.
Regular buses to Palma, Magaluf and Santa-Ponsa area just over one Euro, but very busy.
On street parking at hotel is very limited.
