“We have been to Georgioupolis in Crete three times now...”

★★★★★

written by Phil Read on 05/05/2006

We have been to Georgioupolis in Crete three times now and the Leonidas apartments were the best. The apartments are superbly located. They are close enough to the beach and two mini-markets. The main square is a couple of minutes walk away. They are in a quiet location so you do not get disturbed at night.

Our apartment slept four. There was a twin bedded room and a double bed in the main room. The only downside was that the kitchenette was very small with little worktop space to prepare food. This did not bother us too much as there were plenty of good tavernas nearby. The apartment was clean, maid service was good, and the owner was very friendly. The pool was of an adequate size with a separate children's pool, and it was shallow enough for toddlers.

Our children liked the children's park which was close by and opened every evening, and it was completely safe and enclosed. We could sit and have a meal and drink there whilst watching them play - perfect!

We thoroughly recommend Georgiopolis and the Leonidas apartments. We met several people who returned regularly to both.

Kosmar are cheap and the rep was good, but the flights let them down. The planes (Aegean) were old and tatty. There was no in-flight entertainment at all, and the food was rubbish.
The plane returned to Birmingham via Bristol where we had to get off and go through customs again, and when all you want to do is just get home, this is a drag!

Georgioupolis - 10/10
Leonidas 8/10
Kosmar 7/10
Aegean Airlines 1/10

“I am a travel agent and have done Greece now for many...”

★★★★★

written by kerrypattison on 19/08/2005

I am a travel agent and have done Greece now for many years. This accommodation is the best I have ever stayed at in Greece, and probably is the best greek holiday I have ever had. Never before have I had a bath or power shower in greece, normally a cheap shower and a hole in the floor, but not at the leonidas. The apartments are immaculate and cleaned every day apart from Sunday. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, and the maid kept the place spotless.
The apartments are minutes from the beach and the square. The resort has a real village feel, and is very compact. There is a main sqaure which is surrounded by lovely bars and tavernas, and even has a sports bar (keeps the men happy). From the square, there are streets leading to the beach or river, full of nice shops and tavernas. There are horse and carriages to take you round the village, and a couple of mini trains which take you to lake kournas (a large lake outside the resort where you can hire boats etc... - worth a visit). The beach is pretty good, and if you fancy a change from the pool or the beach, go to edem park down by the beach. It is a lovely grassy complex with 2 pools and bar/taverna, where 2 sunbeds and a brolly, and 2 free drinks will cost you 5 euros. The homemade pizzas there are fab!
The resort caters well for families, as there is mini golf and a big inflatable park with bouncy castles etc...
With regards to eating out, there are approx 47 tavernas. You will find them dotted around the village, but some good ones are "poseidon", only for fish, where you pick your own and they grill it on the bbq. We had the most delicious shark steaks there, also very cheap. "valentinos" is very nice with big portions. Our favourite was a place called "martinas", which is off the square towards the river. You will have to hunt it down, as you won't just walk passed it. Don't go there first as you will want to go every night. I won't say any more other than superb! I could go on and on about georgioupolis, but you must go and find out for yourself. In my opinion, satisfaction is definately guaranteed.
I have luckily travelled all over the world, and don't like going to the same place twice, but I will, without a doubt return to this lovely village, and it would have to be the leonidas apartments that we stay at again. Highly recommended.

“Transfer to resort took approximately 1hr 10mins,...”

★★★★★

written by Robertson on 30/05/2005

Transfer to resort took approximately 1hr 10mins, dropping off in resort of Kalives first.
On arrival, were taken by Kosmar rep to our studio, which as requested was low level. (2adults and 1child aged 3yrs travelled). Studio was of a good size with twin beds, and sofa bed for already made up.
Towels were also provided, and the studio was cleaned daily and change of towels once during our week stay. However if you required anything, the maid and owner were always on hand to ask.
The pool was cleaned daily, with sunbeds and umbrellas around.
It took approx 5mins to walk to the beach, which was a long stretch of lovely sand, and the water was beautiful and shallow for some way out.
Further five minutes, and into village square, with good choice of tavernas/bars to choose from.

This is an excellent choice for families and couples (aged 30+) looking for a relaxing and easy going holiday. The resort was set out lovely, and the position of the Leonidas is superb, with views of sea and mountain scenery too. Would definately return.

Leonidas Apartments: Rooms very spacious, clean and well maintained. Cleaned every day but Sunday. Air conditioned, hairdryer and all basics supplied. Pool is clean .5 mins to beach and 1 min to two well stocked supermarkets.
Georgiopolis is a small Greek village, locals are friendly and helpful. Best taverna we found was Valentinos. Every meal was delicious and big portions. Sun kiss beach bar also served good, cheap food at lunchtime and staff were friendly. If you want a good quiet holiday I'd recommend Georgiopolis and Leonardis apartments.

“Leonidas Apartments is probably the best accommodation...”

★★★★★

written by Karemdale on 29/07/2004

Leonidas Apartments is probably the best accommodation I have had in several holidays to Greece; it is ideally located on the East side of the village and within easy walking distance of the beach, Taverna's and popular village square. The resort of Georgioupolis is small and tightly compact and no matter where you are an open field, space or hillside is within a short walking distance. The beaches are best described like this: Central, opposite the EDAM pool and restaurant, 2 beds and brolly at 5 EURO with 2 complimentary beers and free access with beds at the pool directly behind. The western most beach is reached by crossing the bridge, a beautiful idyllic bay with a lovely Taverna on site, this enhanced by clean toilets. River beach (East side) has several banks of beds each with their own Taverna, down side is there are no or at best very primitive toilet facilities! By way of summary I would have to say that we experienced the best value for money here, much cheaper than Santorini and Zante 2 years ago. It was always a delight to walk the short distance to the village square following a meal and sit in that lovely cane furniture with a drink and watch the world go by. This resort is favoured by Germans and Dutch who for some reason seem to mix much more easily than elsewhere..............or perhaps it was the Brits who mixed much more easily!!!
