“Very very disappointing ????”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EmilyKennedy90 on 09/09/2023

Arrived on Monday 4th September, paid extra £25 for early check in. We had arrived half hour early so we thought go and have a drink outside the restaurant. Not a good start! Rubbish left on the floor outside in the seating area, very dirty and grubby looking. After our expensive drinks off we go to our caravan. I have never experienced a holiday park like this one. Our caravan was right down the bottom, the only view we had was people arriving in the tiny car park. People had to walk past to our caravan door to get to their caravan which was set back behind ours. No nice outdoor sitting area, grass was long, no privacy. Now we have entered the accommodation. We have a pet friendly due to our dog. Where do I start! The settees were full of stains, not just stains bits of food left from other visitors previously. The cleaners had not touched it. My husband called reception and they said we will get the cleaners to do another clean. However it could be a few hours, so my husband hoovered it himself and the hoover absolutely stunk. I felt itchy and dirty through my stay. They were lots of other things not right. Radiator hanging off wall and leaking, the pulleys on the blinds were broken, wardrobe door broke. I have never left a review online before, but I do feel this holiday park is so run down needs a lot of TLC. Being right down the bottom of the park was horrendous for me as I have bad knees and being so steep, I feel sorry for families with children/pushchairs. Our caravan was supposedly been a premier + no chance on earth. Please really think about booking this holiday park. Our day trips out were really nice Torquay is a gorgeous place to visit.

“Terrible ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mrsunshine on 02/08/2023

The Torquay park dean site is situated in the middle of nowhere down a country lane , it is quite far from the town centre and sea front .the site has been built on a hill , steep slope . The reception and entertainment area is at the top of this slope but the caravans are at the bottom . I am quite fit but still found this physically hard to climb up this hill . Anyone elderly , disabled or with a heart condition are going to find this extremely difficult if not fatal. On arriving at the caravan that I had been allocated ( at the very bottom of this valley )I found the seating area seats filthy. The double bed looked like it had been made but on pulling back the quilt I found the sheet covering the mattress stained and found hairs and pubes. This sheet had obviously not been changed I pulled the mattress sheet back and the mattress was absolutely filthy covered in hair, pubes ,and grass . The mattress had never been cleaned or replaced I called park dean and the house keeping manager was sent to the caravan . He apologised and said the caravan should never have been left in this condition, he agreed that the bed linen was dirty and the mattress had not been cleaned . . On pointing out the filth on the seating area I asked the house keeping manager if he would lay his head on the the seating and he replied No he would not . I was told the mattress would be changed and seating taken away and cleaned but it would not be returned until Tuesday evening. The house keeping manager could not find a double bed mattress on the entire site ( just shows they never replace dirty mattresses) so he had to replace dirty mattress with a smaller size . On the early hours of Wednesday morning I was woken by a noisy group of unsavoury characters in another caravan, these people refused to quiet down and got very aggressive when I pointed out what the time was . I decided for my own safety and that of my vehicle to leave this park dean caravan park Wednesday morning after 48 hours of misery. I tried to make a complaint to park dean but you can only do this by email or live chat , after a live chat explaining my experience I received a phone call later in the afternoon from a customer service representative who listened and totally agreed that the experience I had at park dean Torquay had been terrible and I was told that he had written everything down that I had told him and that it would be passed on to the customer resolution team and they would be In touch within three days , he Also said he would be following this case personally to make sure it was dealt with . Three days later nothing..... twelve days later I had still not been contacted ! Once again I had to contact park dean by live chat and I was told to stay connected and they would find out what was going on , i spent two hours on live chat I still could not get a response about my complaint . I just kept getting told on live chat that they had asked there superiors and were now waiting for a response? I waited and waited but received no response, eventually I gave up I emailed park dean and once again asked about my complaint, I also sent screen shots of my two hour wait on live chat . I eventually received a response telling me that I had been banned from park dean because me or a member of my party broke the rules ( they did not elaborate ) they told me that they would not respond to any further emails from me . Please remember that if you are thinking about taking a holiday using this company the caravans are dirty because they are not cleaned to a adequate standard . They don't keep replacement mattresses because they never change dirty or wet mattresses. If you do get into problems at park dean they have a policy of not rectifying or responding to complaints . They just ignore you and ban you .

“Don't bother it's a waste of time and money”

written by Marting1975 on 25/03/2023

Having booked to go to the park for the first time Our first caravan was not nice so we went to reception to be told they only have 1 more caravan we can have as we took our little dog Well that was disgusting but it was at least at the top of the site rather than us needing to be mountain goats to get from the other It smelled it was dirty Our boiler was broke from day one I needed to reset it at least 8 times The furniture and settee was horrid We used the spare quilts to cover the settee so we could sit on it Nothing from reception apart from if the boiler goes again just reset it. Complained numerous times but still no response There only excuse us that they are taking the vans of site next year Don't bother

“Cancellation Policy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Abritton on 13/01/2020

First time we've booked a holiday through Parkdean Holidays and then read the reviews which led us to the opinion we would cancel our booking less than 48 hours after booking it. Unfortunately we were told we would lose our deposit of £30 as we hadn't taken out their cancellation agreement. We found this to be a bit of a cheek, as when purchasing any product there is always a cooling off period (normally 14 days). As OAPs we thought this was a bit of a liberty and the reason for cancelling was lack of parking close to many of the caravans and the park was very isolated. Having lost our deposit we will not be booking any future holidays with Parkdean and will never recommend them to friends and family. Whatever happened to customer good will!!!

“Steep, dangerous paths within the centre”

★★★☆☆

written by on 18/03/2019

2 members of our party, slipped literally metres down an extremely steep road, one slipped on a sign posted "Anti Slip Surface". Suffering a cut hand & badly bruised back & shoulder. Really need to put handrails in place, in busy areas, such as from reception to the shops, laundrette, cafe playground etc. Facilities were good. Staff and First Aiders were extremely courteous, friendly & professional. Children's entertainers we thought were poor, didn't engage with the audience after about 1/2 hr, just garbled their way thro till about 9 pm. Although it is a nice Centre, the steepness of the site lets the whole thing down. I wouldn't recommend this Centre for pushchairs, wheelchairs or less fit people.

“Dirty dull ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Luchia on 11/08/2014

I have just come back from this park and was so dissappointed. The rooms never get cleaned nor does any other part by the look of it. They advertise that "" they make your bed on arrival"" This is only because the bedding is so old and dirty they don't want you to see it. I refunded to actually get under the blanket and actually slept on top of the bed which was bad enough The entertainment was shocking my 8 and 4 year old have never been so fed up!! On the rare occasion we went to use the small pool there was a que to get in!!! Literally one in one out!! I would visit the area again as it is lovely but would never stay in this accommodation again

“Park Dean Torquay holiday park ? ..wont be coming back”

★★☆☆☆

written by Carsonqc296 on 21/04/2014

We booked apartment but never again. Had to wait in long queue for ages to get the keys. Apartment was facing car park on ground floor and smelled of smoke. We complained and they said we should be up but they upgraded us down as upstairs apartments are outdated. We said we rather be upstairs whatever looks like as long as doesn't smell and doesn't face the car park. When we got to the other apartment upstairs it was much better no one smoked there before and it was exactly the same as downstairs. If you ever book apartment make sure it doesn't face car park! I didn't like lay out of this park. Club house is further away from bar/restaurant. Actually there is no bar as in other holiday parks which is open all day where you can chill out. There is only restaurant very busy as some people having half board. You can sit down at the decking area but if the weather is bad you cant go anywhere else just restaurant. Be really careful with decking as it gets very slippery if the weather is bad. Entertainment is good that was only one thing good in this holiday park. I didn't like the attitude of people working on this holiday park on reception and shop. Not very friendly. Drink costs the same as other holiday parks so be prepare to spend quite a lot of money there. I cant comment on food as we always had meals somewhere else but I looked at prices and it is not cheap. Rather go to Weatherspoon. They have one on Torquay and one in Brixham. I stayed in quite a few holidays parks before but I must say we didn't like this holiday park ( mean all of us my partner, me and my teenagers sons) and we wont be returning in this park again.

“WARNING!! DO NOT COME HERE!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tasha_5761 on 29/10/2012

WARNING!! WARNING!! DO NOT COME HERE!! This park is a complete joke. They have the cheek to charge us extra for the service charge etc when the park is not even up to good standards. Its stuck in the middle of no where, you have to drive everywhere as the bus stop is more than a 15 minute walk away down a country road that you are more likely to get killed on before reaching the bus stop. The complete park was horrendous. We arrived at 4pm and caravan was ready, got to caravan and it was cold, damp and smelly and the fire did not work. Went and complained and we were given the choice of an upgrade which was going to cost us £140 which is just cheeky!! Then we were offered another caravan or an apartment. We went and viewed both, the other caravan was down a dreadfully stead slippery hill which is not disabled friendly. Path leading to the caravan was full of leaves and slippery and then i slipped on the steps coming back out of the caravan, luckily I didnt hurt myself. Third time lucky we went and viewed the apartment which looked awful from the outside, look like typical council flats. When inside it was warm, it had two bedrooms and was rather cosy and just like a two bed flat which we were happy with. Once settled in we couldnt really go anywhere as we had to drive which leaves you restricted and the price of drinks in the club was just disgusting £3.30 for a pint alone and the prices went up and up. The entertainment hall needs to be totally refurbished its very dated, dark and gloomy. The guy who did the kids and adults entertainment were okay, i found it rather boring and not many people stayed once the bingo and kids entertainment had finished. I am totally gutted as this was my first holiday this year which i was really looking forward to. This holiday was the worst one yet, there is nothing to do, to far away from everything. It is definately not suited for disabled people, you would sure need to be super strong to push a wheelchair up the size of those hills as its just stupid. They have decking in some places which gets very slippery when wet. I really wouldnt reccommend this place to anyone unless you have plenty of money and dont mind getting taxi's here and there. As i was unable to go out and have a drink due to having to drive. Ruined my holiday totally. So once again... Do not come here its a total disappointment!!

Tetley0027's Response to Tasha_5761's Review

Written on: 05/12/2012

I arrived on holiday at the same time as this guest. A bit confused by her observations! £3.30 for a pint is average for the area, obviously not as cheap as Wetherspoons but the same as most of the pubs around.

A hill in Torquay... who would have thought it! Maybe some research on the area or even the park would have led to finding more suitable accommodation prehaps in Norfolk!!

Having said this... our accomodation was nice, clean and warm. We did pay for the upgrade to a centrally heated caravan and it was worth it for the time of year. The park is a little dated, but the entertainment venue is a good size and all in all we loved it!!

“O.K.....But...”

★★★☆☆

written by rp2711 on 10/09/2012

Booked a sun deal for family...(3 daughters...1 son...6 grandchildren...my wife and myself)...1 daughter had top floor apartment with nice view over patio bar/playground...the rest of us had caravans...with all the extras (not including linen) it cost approx...£30 per person (this includes club pass)...Even though the apartment and caravans were a bit dated and worn they were clean...my son had a caravan with the window lever/locks broken and after going to reception and complaining this was fixed very quickly...apart from that the only other thing was that our cooker in our caravan had to be lit by matches as the auto ignition did not work...but that was no problem to us...The only complaint I would make is that bacause of the age of grandchildren we went into club early when the childrens entertainment starts at 6.30-7.00...the entertainment team do a very good job hyping the kids up for a hour........then the kids have to sit down and not make a noise !!!! as the adult bingo starts....if your children (after being stimulated/excited dare to make a noise then they/you get bad-mouthed from the young guy calling the bingo)...the comment to us was 'would the people not playing bingo have respect for the people who are'...do they think that kids have an ON/OFF swich ????...Maybe THEY should think about entertainment schedule !!!

“Never Again”

written by on 07/09/2012

Just returned a day early from a 4 day break with my friend and i wish i had read the reviews before we booked.we arrived and were shown to the filthiest apartment i have ever seen, the furniture was falling apart and the beds looked like camp beds, there was spiders webs everywhere and it absolutely stank, also the door leading onto the small balcony did not lock ,however when i pointed this out at reception as a security issue they said it was left unlocked incase of fire, gobsmacked or what,i assume that means you can get murdered in your bed but at least you won't get burnt in a fire.We ended up having to pay £90 to move to a caravan which we were very angry about but other than turn round and drive all the way back to Southampton we had no choice, the curtains in the caravan were damp and through the night we were waking up in damp beds. The patio bar was ok but the food was always cold.I would never reccomend this resort to anyone and i will certainly not be returning,we not only paid an extra £90 but lost money as-well because we left a day early because we were so disgusted so please think carefully before you book here

“Average Holiday Park”

★★★☆☆

written by on 28/06/2011

I have just returned from this holiday park with 5 other friends all in our twenties and on a budget holiday. The caravan was lovely and clean, plenty of room for all 6 of us, the pool was ok, fairly basic and a little dirty/smelly but otherwise fine. The shop was the same as any other shop on site, fairly expensive, so we avoided it mostly and went to cheaper supermarkets off site. The entertainment was fairly good, we only saw one evening and it had a good performer and comedy act. The park itself is very hilly, and therefore really wouldn't recommend it for everyone, we struggled and were in our twenties! The park is also a long walk from Torquay, it took us around 1 hour to walk to the closest pub, and this is down small country lanes. For all our travel we got a taxi number from the park reception, they gave us fixed rates into torquay which was much better! (£6-£8 to torquay for 6 people) they also gave us a cheap deal to get to Paignton zoo and seafront! Overall it was a good holiday, but would possibly try somewhere different with easier access to town/beach Local attractions - would definitely recommend the restaurant hooks (fun pirate themed atmosphere!) mambo (if you fancy cheap drinks and a dance) and Paignton zoo (definitely worth the money) and finally the restaurant indian ocean in Paignton! :)

“Better than expected!”

★★★★☆

written by noodles86 on 28/05/2011

We have just returned from a four night Sun holiday break at Parkdean Torquay. We read all the reviews before we went and had some apprehension but were pleasantly surprised. We were given our caravan early and had a three bed caravan for the three of us which was very large and spacious. It was impecibly clean although maybe a little tired. There were some pealing wall paper and stains on the carpets but this did not hinder our stay. I took my own duvet and pillows as I do not like to sleep on others thought ones provided looked adequate. Kitchen was well equipped he only thing we used from home were some scissors. Plenty of cooking equipment/knives etc. Beds were lovely and comfy, by 9pm i couldn't wait to go to bed! We were in the vixen plot which was right at the bottom of the park. Although it is hilly we did not find this a problem nor did our four year old. The swimming pool is great. Spacious changing areas, free lockers (no coins required) there was a large pool, jacuzzi bath and small children's pool and a flume. All of which were clean. Pool was a nice warm temperature. There was an under fives ball pit room which looked clean but we did not go in. The arcade was as you would expect. Our four year old liked the kids club however we aren't 'holiday club' type of people! We just stayed for an hour each night with our daughter and left, we did not buy drinks so cannot comment on prices. Crazy golf is in need of particular TLC as it just looks abandoned!! We did not eat at the site so cannot comment although prices we did see looked expensive. Shop was as expensive as you expect at these sort of places with a rough 10% mark up. Park was really good for the kids. Cannot comment on staff as we hardly saw any of them! Park is not one to visit without a car. Although I feel for a short break the camp would be adequate but hard to get to!

“Just came back from 4 nights here at Parkdean Torquay....”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 19/05/2011

Just came back from 4 nights here at Parkdean Torquay. I could not fault the caravan, however the location i could. We were placed down 2 ridiculously steep hills, getting anywhere on site e.g swimming pool was murder. We spent more excersise getting up the hill than actually swimming as kids too knackered. Arcade reasonably priced. The shop was very expensive. apartments needed rebuilding around 50 years ago, very grubby and poor condition. the golf was not even usable as it was a wreck. Miles out from anywhere, car is a must. The hill to get down to car parking was so steep we had to go into gear one. Bingo so rubbish guy called the wrong number out at the wrong time, my kids could have called it better. Overall wouldnt recommend it, and wont be going back anytime in the future. What an absolute hole, i wouldnt want my dog staying there.

“I resently had a holiday in Torquay with Park Dean. It...”

★★☆☆☆

written by 1Kelzy1 on 02/11/2010

I resently had a holiday in Torquay with Park Dean. It was our first holiday as a family and we wanted to make the most of it. We spent 4 days here and barely spent anytime on site, because we went off site to see other places (Babbacombe Model Village, Buckfast Butterflies and Otter Sanctuary, Buckleigh Railway Museum, Kents Cavern and a few beaches). The time we did spend wasnt great, there wasnt a lot of entertainment in the day except a park and a small arcarde. The entertainment at night wasnt to good either. I recommend bringing your own shopping, because their shop is very over priced, so we went to the local Sainsbury. The roads leading up and arond are very narrow and it felt quite dangerous driving around, because the locals zoom around them and barely like waiting. The caravan we had, had bird poo all over it and inside most of the nets were moldy. I didnt see many staff unless you looked for them.
I did enjoy the holiday very much, but I feel this is because we werent onsite only at night. My family and I agreed we would go back to Torquay, but never this park again, we are going to try Haven next time instead. I sugguest if you are staying here to look around for other things to do. Hope this helps :o)
