I use Harry Constance's Good to Go with my 8th grade Reading students. They need to turn in a signed permission slip before I allow them to read these types of books, but they quickly devour the books and ask for more. A couple of additional books that my students also enjoyed were: Chickenhawk by Robert Mason and Guns Up by Johnnie M. Clark.

Harry Constance, Good to Go, book is still a great inspiration for me. The first time I read it, I stayed up until 4 am to finish it. After reading the whole book I composed a letter to the publishing house requesting an address I could contact him at, and with 1 week I had a response from the author. I was only 17 at the time and could not believe that Walter H Contsance had written me, personally. His words of encouragement helped me get through a very rough time that soon followed his correspondences. I still have the letter to this day in my files.
Thanks Harry.

Good to Go is a true and accurate look at a Navy Seal's time in the field, and in the services. Well written.

Harry's book brought back some of my own feelings and fears that I experienced while serving in Vietnam during the Tet offensive. I operated in the same area that Harry talks about in his book. His open candidness of his feeling about being on patrol and getting separated from his group really hit home for me. This is a great book, especially for those that served in Vietnam during Tet.

I enjoyed the way that he related stories from every part of his life and not just war stories. It is interesting to see how his experiences in Vietnam and the military shaped his life. I enjoy learning from people who have gone through difficult experiences and have developed strong character and strong life lessons. My uncle was in the Special Forces in Vietnam, and the whole family carries his sacrifice with great pride and honour even 30 years later. Even to this day his example pushes me to do more with my life every day.

Reading this book gave me a new outlook on what went on in the war. It makes me wish I was younger that way I could enlist and be SEAL. I admire harry constance for what he has done and what he sacrificed for me and my family. THANKS Harry.

I Was stationed with Harry Constance onboard the USS Whipple FF-1062in the early 80's. He would occasionally tell us stories of his time with the Seal Teams in Viet Nam. All aboard the Ship had the utmost respect for him, and I am glad that he took pen to paper to give us a little history of what really went on with the Combat Veterans.
He was a good FRIEND and Shipmate.

I bought and read this book for my flight to Hawaii this spring. I spent hours and hours reading this book there, rather than explore all of Hawaii, that's how you know this book is good. I just wish Harry had told us more. And what a guy he would be to meet.
