This is a preliminary review of my first experience of claiming from Saga. I recently switched providers, from BUPA, due to what I believed were excessive price increases. Saga offered a policy that seemed to fit the bill at a much more reasonable price. At the time I took out the policy I fully understood that there would be a moratorium and that any claims made within the first two years would be subject to review of my medical records (conditions that occurred in the preceding 3 years would not be covered). This was quite transparent. Unfortunately, I needed to visit my GP recently, as I had symptoms that could have indicated cancer. Saga immediately provided the documents for completion by my GP, as well as a consent form for me to sign (whilst I was in the phone to them they arrived by email!). The GP took 24 hours to fax over the necessary report (pretty good I think). This had a £50 charge that Saga will reimburse. Within less than a day, Saga confirmed their receipt and told me that my claim was authorised. This was truly brilliant because I had my first consultant appointment the day after that and I was able to provide the Royal Marsden with all the info they needed and so no need to delay any examination and diagnosis. The good news is that I appear to be 'normal' and only need a precautionary follow up. However, at a time of considerable stress and anxiety for me and my family, Saga helped enormously to ensure I was in a position to get a prompt consultation and diagnosis. Thank you! I do not know if my treatment was special in any way, because of my reported symptoms, but I got the feeling that this was quite normal. All the call centre staff are helpful and on the ball. Based in this experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Saga.
