Their old loud and chaotic style remains evident in songs: The Blister Exists, Three Nil, Pulse Of The Maggots and Welcome, but they also appeal to rock enthusiasts with songs like Duality and Before I Forget. This album is a more ear friendly CD as a whole but still caters for the people that loved there IOWA sound. It is a CD that shows SlipKnot can do both metal and hard rock justice.

Vol. 3 is definitely Slipknot's best album so far; the pounding drums, the growling guitars, and Corey Taylors furious scream. This album represtents Slipknot in their most rough, heavy and darkest way. It looses a bit of momentum coming with a really heavy song followed by a softer song, as for example Before i Forget followed by Vermillion pt 2. A Ferrari on the road of metal, this is an epic album.

Slipknot really did it this time round and with 'Duality' being the song which features on Kerrang every 2 minutes (haha) has really helped shape this album into something new and different for Slipknot.

Vol. 3 is Slipknot's best album to date. I really can't find any bad points on the album. For every bit of heaviness there's wicked melody. The weak points are, that not all Slipknot fans will accept this album. It will take a few listens to swallow all the different styles. Corey's voice is absolutely superb. Joey's drumming is excellent. and the strings are unrivaled on any other slipknot album. PICK THIS UP!

Slipknot, Vol. 3 - First off, I have to say that this is the very first Slipknot album I have ever listened to. Hearing over the net and from a friend of Slipknot's great sound, I decided to check out their newest album "The Subliminal Verses," when I got home I put the CD into my walkman and listened nonstop till it was over.
My favorite songs from this album are "Duality," "The Blister Exists," Circle," "Vermillion," "Pulse of the Maggots," and "Opium of the People." The constant barrage of the industrial-strength metal riffs will definitely leave a lasting impression. I have yet to hear any band (save Lamb of God) use such a heavy sound. The guitar noise acts almost like a cage that bars in the homicidal screaming of their "singer" Cory. The constant wailing of the vocals gives the album a very large dose of death metal as well as other things. The only low point in the entire album was "Vermillion pt.2" which has no guitars, drum or bass... just Cory and a cello. To say it was a break in formula would be a HUGE understament. It was also fairly repetitive as well.
In conclusion, metal fans in general would not AT ALL be disappointed. This is a great album and is one of the most devastating things I have ever heard.

Slipknot, Vol.3: The Subliminal Verses is a a very well-made album by the band Slipknot. It features their newest hit "Duality" which is undoubtably the best song on the album. The recipe that makes this album stand out from the other nu-metal albums is the tested-and-true formula which made the band famous: the music dosen't necessarily have to be refined for people to like it. Vol.3 is full of tracks with the heavy sound that became the band's trademark, especially on the track "Pulse Of The Maggots", but it also contains a couple of slower tracks, including "Circle", which shows that Slipknot are able to do more than just hard music.
Vol.3 is the first Slipknot album I bought and, truly, it was an excellent choice.

I totally agree with you. On top of that...it sounds like they actually put some thought into their music! I really love the melodic tunes, Vermillion Pt. 2 in particular..but tunes like Pulse of the Maggots is brilliant! By the way, Iillswitch Engage is just fantastic!!
