My Digihome PVR160 has worked fine for several years, apart from occasional crashes. However, since digital switchover in the Oxford area 2 months ago, it is unable to play or record some channels without picture & audio freezing irregularly every 2-5 seconds. I have retuned several times, including 2 factory resets. It has the latest software v13.0. And the signal quality is good or very good on all channels. Some programmes play & record fine while the next freezes and the next is fine again - from which I deduce that it is something to do with the encoding used for the affected programmes. So until Ofcom or whoever sort out the mess that DigitalTV has made of the TV broadcasting in the UK, I'll have to hope that a newer PVR works better. Geof.

had my first digihome for about 4yrs, loved it, when it started to go wrong, went straight out and bought another one, pvr80, have had this one for about 3yrs, its fast and simple to use, no real problems at all. wanted to upgrade to a box that recorded 2 channels, could only get one out of argos with my card, but they dont sell digihomes now, so got a humax less than a week ago, it was awful, put it back in box today to go back, brought my digihome back out of spare room. cant believe the difference, didnt realise how good it was until i tried something else. would recommend to anyone, my whole family have them, in fact we all have at least 2 each.

I have owned a 160 for nearly 2 years. Has been superb. I've always got a library full of stuff to watch and we can skip the ads. Fine until a couple of months ago when recorded stuff is jumping and skipping. Music recordings are often ghastly. Saying that, I recorded BBC 1 and that seems to be OK so recording is worse on ITV channels and freeview channels. Any body think it can be repaired?

I bought my Digihome several years ago and have found it to be excellent value, It has never caused me any problems, always updates flawlessly. I think I must have been lucky reading some of the other reviews but I would certainly recommend them.

Reading the other reviewers I seem to be the lucky one. I've had a pvr80 for 4years and found it to be best bit of kit i've ever owned. It's the easiest and most intuitive machine to use and has never let me down. Even going digital no problems at all. I have a Sagem at another address and that is a real pain to use. I've been delighted with my Digihome. ps I don't work for Digihome or have anything to do with the company.

Have had mine for 4 years and it has been great no problems easy to use, and really I can not fault it what so ever but for one thing it has finally gone to the big DVR in the sky.
So I went and brought a Samsung DVR and if you thing you have problems with this one the Samsung is really bad.
All in all I will get another one and would and have told mine work mates all about this one.

Extremely disappointing machine with problems throughout the last 1 year. Problems to do with the poor consideration of manufacturer for the ever faulty remote control which I had replaced twice under warranty. It also kept suddenly jamming itself of and needs to be switched of from the mains and restarted with loose of often valuable programmes. Now after just 2 years it has completely stopped and the light has disappeared from its panel and no one seem to be interested in giving any help. I lost all my recording inside a box that keeps looking at me like a dead animal!

I have nothing but praise for my Digihome digital recorder ...for those who complain about failing after one year I should refer you to the latest E.U Law reference 1999/44/EU which states that all electrical items should be guaranteed for TWO years. I have just learned about this but it is worth knowing when arguments start with the supplier.

I pirchased two recorders, the second one records two programmes at the same time which is great. I have not had any trouble with them so far. If a problem occurs it only needs to be reprogrammed. Great value for money. There's very little I don't like about it and would recommend it.

When it works, the DVR160 is a very good, affordable system with all the features you'd want. However, as others state, it's prone to bugs. System freezes where none of the controls work have happened several times, requiring mains disconnection. Sometimes programmes get bugged on playback or record, either missing bits, or as today, halfway through the recording it skips randomly through the show. Slow rewind shows it's all there, but it won't let us watch! Errors occur every 10 to 15 recordings at a guess.
If there was a bug fix firmware update, it'd be perfect 5* must-buy product. However there's no real Digihome company (it's a badge of Vestel who will rebadge for Tesco, Argos etc.), so there are no updates. I'll never buy Digihome again.

good value.

mixed feelings about the Digihome PVR80/160
spec. good . use problematic
unpluugiig major means of remedy
picture freezes,
reported loss of signal when other receivers still report adequate signal,
shows black screen as if no recording, until reboot
norrmally 2 mins but sometimes several hours before recovery
lost favourites menu after two months
navigating epg menu is difficult as each single key press results in a response equivalent 1 to 6 key presses.
technically in guarantee still but need to watch recorded programs before returning.

The Digihome PVR80/160 recorder was a lot of trouble. Remote would turn machine off but not on. Even manual use of button on set often did not work until third try. Picture inclined to sieze. Because of this recordings poor or only partially made. We returned the set.

The Digihome PVR80/160 is Easy to use, great picture when it works ... Not reliable in my opinion. Sometimes locks up, tuner section more prone to break up/loss of signal than my Thomson DTI 1000 set top box. Cannot seem to rely on recording from the `Guide'. No upgrades to software available. Potentially very good product, but too unreliable for comfort. Returning to Argos for refund. Argos now listing an ALBA machine in what looks like the same casing ... ? (March 2009).

After several months, whenever I tried to record, the picture and sound jumped so much that the recording was hopeless. I re-tuned the unit several times; turned off the electricity supply from the mains; but still the problem persisted. In the end, while trying to record, I picked up the unit and thumped its underside. That fixed the problem!

Simple to use, it doesn't even need a child to program it. Good capacity, it took us over a year to get near filling the disk. A good machine ruined by badly tested software and unhelpful support in my experience I feel. I would never buy another of that brand. Do not recommend the Digihome PVR80/160.

I contacted Digihome but they were not much help, asked me to check my ariel (which is less than 5 years old) and get a signal booster (which I have anyway) So I am no further forward at this stage. I would be glad to hear from anyone whi might have a solution.
