Joshua Altback Hair Salon

I am so upset as my hair turned green after the smoothing tongs that were used with a defrizzing treatment were over heated. The salon then stripped my hair of colour and I left a brassy yellow rather than salt and pepper and looked dreadful. They refuse to take responsibility and do not respond to emails. They did not want to return my deposit despite having messed up my hair completely. They were rude and inefficient. I cannot believe that a salon can behave like this in 2017.

I had a perm treatment two weeks ago ( I waited for that long with a review as I hoped the condition of my hair would change)..

Anyways my hair is completely damaged, dried and frizzy and looks horrible!!! I've never ever had anything as bad in my whole life!

The hairdresser ( was she really a hairdresser?)Was very incompetent! I didn't have any tests done to check if my hair is suitable to get such a treatment ( apparently is not). I asked about soft, big, natural waves what I got was some kind of ''poodle dog'' look..I literally cried while being there...You upset me! you stressed me!

I didn't pay for that service as it was a complete failure! Although my review is very negative and I'll never go back to that salon, I have to say that the owner was nice and was trying to save the situation in a very professional way. Good points for him, very bad for the hairdresser!!

As a perpetually skint perpetual student, I only discovered Joshua Altback's salon because I had a Wowcher for 70% off a cut and colour. By some twist of fate, it ended up changing my life (really). I went in with long, fine, highlighted hair with a middle parting, that had been pretty much exactly the same since I was 16. I had always felt a little dissatisfied with it, but never had the confidence to go for a drastic change - I just took for granted I would always be one of those people with fairly blah hair, and it never bothered me too much as I'm pretty low maintenance and don't think too much about my appearance. Every few months, I'd drag myself to a random hairdresser (usually with whatever discount voucher I could get hold of) to sort out my roots and a trim, and leave feeling content but unmoved.

My trip to Joshua Altback was a vastly different experience. I was with a stylist named Clairette, an absolutely gorgeous, warm, inspiring French lady with impeccable taste and a great sense of humour. I had brought in a couple of pictures and tentatively hinted I would quite like a big change. With authority and panache, she sent me out with a beautiful bright blonde pixie crop and gave me my old hair to take with me! I have literally not regretted going for the chop for one second. It was like she somehow looked at me and without a second's hesitation knew exactly what I wanted to look like, better than I knew myself! As an added bonus, it is the first time ever that the conversation in the salon has flowed so easily and interestingly.

I never normally write anything on these review sites but I am so genuinely enthusiastic about this lovely salon and really want to support them. I've been back twice since my first appointment and always leave feeling so much better than I went in. If you are going to spend money on a good hairdresser, I couldn't recommend this one strongly enough. Intelligent, empathetic, bold, and a true artist!

(Also... everyone in the salon is very generous with delicious coffee and those little caramelised biscuits.)

Nice salon, good location. The stylist who did my hair was very good. I could tell he was very experienced and knew what would suit me. The salon staff were friendly and professional and I had a nice head massage from one of there assistants. My hair looks great and the condition feels nice and soft from the treatment they used. I will definately go back again and would recommend the salon to everyone.

I would like to say a big thank you to Paulo for my new cut and colour. I went into the JA salon with drab light brown hair and left with lovely golden blonde hair. Everyone says how much it suits me and Im loving the new look. I only wanted a trim and Im happy Paulo listened and did not cut too much off. The salon is nice and friendly. Good service from the moment I walked in. Paulo was really genuine and fun to talk to. The prices are expensive but in my opinion, you get what you pay for. Have been recommending to everyone since!

I would like to say how much I enjoyed my visit to the JA salon. I went through a special online promotion package which included highlights and a cut. The salon looked nice and clean, the staff were really friendly and professional. The stylist (Paulo) went through all the options on different colours and cuts that would suit me and I decided on a sharper bob style cut as my hair was shoulder length and fine so it needed some kind of shape. The result was amazing, Im so happy with both the colour and cut. I would recommend this salon as its in a good location 5 mins from the station, the staff are great, the girl that shampooed me gave me an amazing head massage (best I've ever had), and my hair has never looked as good. Will definately go back again.

I visited Joshua Altback last week for the first time and I have to say it was excellent. I had highlights with Nick and a cut with Chris and they were both great. I felt really welcomed and looked after and the atmosphere was good. The cut and highlights were the best I have ever had and I would recommend this hairdressers to anyone.

I came away feeling more than satisfied and very happy with my new do!

This was my first visit and certainly worth every penny, by fair the best cut and colour i've ever had. The Salon was lovely and so were Nick and Josh. Would highly recommend. Staff were friendly, salon was clean and well decorated. Reception seemed nice and the whole experience was a pleasure. Staff seemed to cater well and it was nice to sit back and relax. Left the salon feeling amazing with beautiful hair!!

I had a brazilian keratin treatment at Joshua Altback and absolutely love it. Having had a bad experience with a hair salon that ran an offer through an online deal I was keen to find somewhere that knows what they are doing. A lovely girl called Veronica did my hair and really took care in putting on the treatment and the ironing process. She said that because I have highlights over a colour she should only go over those ends a couple of times as not to damage my hair. This has made a big difference as last time the stylist kept on going over and over the same sections and this resulted in my hair being completely dry. This time around, my hair feels really soft and silky.

They gave me an introductory offer of 30% off and they also have a loyalty scheme which I'll definately make me go back. All in all a really good experience. Its nice to find a salon that knows exactly what they are doing.

I have been desperate to find a good hairdresser who can straighten my curly hair and finally found one that didn't damage it. My hair has been straight and easy to manage since going. I had a consultation first and then came back a week later and had the treatment which took a couple of hours. I was looked after really well and the staff were great. Joshua did my hair and he was brilliant and listened to exactly what I wanted. My hair has been really good ever since and I will definitely go back.
