After joining fitness first I cancelled my contact within 24 hours after feeling pressured into it 10 weeks later I still ha net had my £35 refund after sending emails and spoken to at least 8 different people I'm still no further forward I would definitely knot recommend fitness first. Please be careful

The manager is a bully and talks to members if they are school children, unless he can take your money for PT. There is a group of core members who intimidate and are passive aggressive physically. If you like to train properly, release stress and want a environment which is safe to relax in your workout then do not go here. There seems to be a lot of sexual deviant members who use it as a nightclub to perve on the women. People hog the weights and DO NOT WANT TO SHARE! They get aggressive if you ask. If you like posing in the mirror, training with full make up, looking at your bi-ceps in the mirror and bullying other members this is the place for you.

Fitness First are Bullies. They bully and harrass people to get memeberships. They stop at nothing. They say tthey care about customers but they don't. Cancelling memeberships is a headache and they charge what ever fees to anyone (cancel fees for some people but won't for others). They have a reputation of being called finance first, already have been in the media for their bad practices. The staff are all show ponies, everyone that works for fitness first they think they are God's gift. They can be expensive too.

I have been trying to use a promotional offer which I am bombarded with via email. After completing the details i waited for contact. I then decided to try and speak to the membership team, after 8 calls, passed from One person to another, over an hour on the phone I am told the promotion will no longer be honoured. The whole service offered was truly disgusting. There was no interest, and no apology for wasting a morning trying to get assistance. I then spoke to DW Gyms who couldn't help enough. I would highly recommend you ignore Fitness First and go to an organisation who has respect and professionalism. SHAME ON FITNESS FIRST.

Tried to cancel my membership, they told me I had to pay another month, even though my 12 month contract was up. Tried to complain this was unfair, met by uncaring jobsworths in Customer Services. Now they've added another £25 and passed it to debt collection. The equipment is tired and old and rarely tidied up, spent as much time looking for equipment as using it. Virgin is SO much nicer...

The staff at this gym are rude and unfriendly. They do not care about their customers. It is an intimidating place to train. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. The customer service is terrible!!!!

I would never join this again!! Absolutely not happy with customer care,not helpful at all just because I wanted to cancell membership due to medical reasons.They made me feel like I just make things up,hadn't been understanding at all..I can't wait to get rid of them and would never recommend this to anyone!

To summarize the beautiful experience: Reception by manager was ok against what I heard from other reviews.no credit card used (maybe that was the magic 'Chess Move')only used cash card. Equipment state of the Art (if not occupied by overbooking with memberships at certain times of a Day). Second Visit after receiving my Code Card (5 months one not bearing any Photo ID). Present Card to the reception Lady. Looking at her PC she finger pointed at me...hi,hi,he,he (laughing at me with pointed Finger so everyone in the Line could watch),is this you??.. I had no view to the PC Screen,maybe they placed any joke Picture in the Place Holder of the Client's Photo. Hello Sir,good Day or such my A@@..did not occur to her. Mindset of an 8 year old Child with Zero Training or Job Briefings.I maturely tried to eat it pretending not being touched by all that.Did not want to ruin my workout. Steam Bath: very good until a guy stood up went to the wall and started to make movements under his towel wrapped loose around his hips. People started to leave and I realized..'this Pervert masturbated!!'..joined the Club of leaving people on the double,unbelievable! Workout: Managed to get hold of a free Machine and started my 5x5 set Routine with Rests between of the pretty standard 1 mins. A PT with his customer on another machine in Front approached me after 2 sets when I will be finished so he can use it with his Client. Wooophs,what a professionalism,he should not ask that to a Customer as a Staff Member,its rude to give pressure on an Exercising Customer to get him off a machine (I mean I was not sitting there having an Half Hour Phone Call or such...). between Customer maybe tolerable but not by a staff of FF. I gave him they answer that I will finish and did so. Since this that PT was harassing me with making insulting Face gestures on other visits and passed my Name to his Gang which were yelling it when I was around. Even Cell Phone Numbers were passed. My Term was about to finish anyway and I not go down to this level fighting Babies and there psycho issues. so I simply did not renew,bye bye one customer less,good work,I was thinking smiling about them. Highly recommend not to go there. These are no Sports People believe me work-out in proper Gyms.

All the trainers are really fat, not fit at all. they are rude un helpful. Don't waste ur money.

The towels were stained and smelt burnt, showers were disgusting! I was hit on twice by staff and when attending the Zumba class the instructor assumed I would be comfortable with him thrusting his hips on me. I can't think of anything I liked about the gym at all, I dreaded going there (which was a waste of money). Also make sure you read outside of the terms and conditions too, I thoroughly read them however when my contract came, there was a tiny box with three point (which have nothing to do with each other, completely random) stating that they will continue to charge you even after your term in up unless you request to stop! I asked a member of staff about this on the first day and they had no clue about it... go figure. complete waste of my time and money.

My son joined the fitness first gym York last September and was involved in a accident and knocked off his motorbike and extensive injuries due to this accident so was unable to attend the gym at all so waited 1 year for the contract to run out after 12months thinking thats its over now even though he was unable to visit for the duration of his membership. But no they still take the money after 12 months and then you go on to a 1 month roll on membership and they still take the money ,but have been told today via a phonecall today that he should have visited the gym to inform them. So this means they still take the money and he still has to give 1 month notice as well so they want a futher payment. I have been told that its another company that take the money on the companies behalf, but was told they dont know by whom as i asked for the telephone number for this company but it did not happen. Anyway all i can say is the company do not care about anything apart from getting the cash regards to the 12 months contract being ended. Stay clear best way to stay healthy is not join this gym or any gym as they are all as bad as one another, after having a simular experience at Bannantynes in York except they want 3 month notice to quit after the 12 month has run out.

It may be that you are considering joining Fitness First at Baker Street. This is one of the flagship Fitness First gyms, and, given the location, one might think that lots of corporate johnnies would use it. Private equity pirates, Oaktree Capital Management, who have their hands on the Fitness First tiller certainly think so, because they have set the membership fees to reflect a certain kind of member. Now, I know what you are thinking, the members in question have arms and legs and so on that need exercising, but if you are a man, and use the showers at the Fitness First gym at Baker Street you will see, and hear, other men exercising members in quite unusual ways. If the fantasy of this excites you, then, go for it, take up a membership with Fitness First and put your hands to the task. If the thought of members being exercised in the showers repels you, then you are probably normal, and avoid this gym like a disease. And if you choose to ignore the warning here, then please, gentlemen, check what's left on the shower floor, before you step into a shower cubicle.

Price is too expensive especially my local gym doesn't have a pool. Small studio and crammed gym with not enough equipment. When I'm there I often find myself being pushed off the equipment (not literally) by the staff. As there is only one squatting bench the staff (even when they're not personal training someone just working out) ask to 'hop in' then end up bringing more staff over to work out! Gym is far too busy in the morning and after school times, often waiting for most pieces of equipment. Also brought my friend to a free Friday session and she had someone from fitness first call her three times even though she told them she wasn't interested. They're not interested in the customers needs, just the amount of people they can get through the doors, absolute joke.

Fitness First....awful company. All they care about is having as many people sign up as possible. When you first go in, as a non member, staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive....they then coax you into signing a 1 year contract. I wasn't even told the contract was yearly and once you sign, you cannot get out of it. I feel I was tricked and pressured into signing, and once a member, staff didn't care at all about anything I had to say. I had to pay over £300 to get out of my contract after being threatened with debt collectors. Such a poorly run company... Use your local council run gym instead.

Fitness First Gyms are overpriced and overcrowded, I was a member but cancelled my membership because the equipment was shabby and the gym was so overcrowded it was not fit to train in. The staff are rude and the instructors are under paid novices. I cancelled with one month's notice as per my contract and they tried to take extra payments, when I complained and cancelled my direct debit they sold my details to a Dept collection agency when I legally did not own them anything. Fitness First are the lowest of the low. Please do not get involved with them or you will end up like many other on this reviewing site being ripped off by them, this company does not care about honesty, fairness or service, there only interest is making a profit.

Machines and gym vary from a location to another- from awful to average for their "black label" always over crowded ultimately over priced gym - poor staff - awful service from the head office DO NOT JOIN!

Do not join Fitness First gyms, they are terrible. People are packed in with no regard to the customers, no space to move, they stink because of overcrowding. They even hold classes in the middle of the already packed floors, just to make things even more unpleasant. Today I almost had a weight smashed in my face by one of the class members exercising next to my rowing machine. Unfortunately I cannot cancel my membership now, being a corporate one. I am furious I have spent the money on them so don't follow my example, go somewhere else!! By the way, I've been going to gyms for the past 3 decades and I can sincerely say Fitness Fitness First are the worst.

for a premium gym its budget facilitates poor ventilation the gym floor stinks audio system doesn't work on many machines or the machine has no connection Hot Yoga isnt hot and changing rooms are too small for the amount of people using them

Rogue gym, treat their members like dirt. Cancelled my membership in branch (Devonshire Square, London) months ago, realised payments were still going out. Now say they have no evidence of cancellation, and refuse to refund my money. The manager I spoke to was extremely rude and confrontational. I've given them the exact time and date that I was in the branch (as I was speaking to someone on whatsapp at the time I cancelled about the cancellation!) They have refused to check cctv which would show I was cancelling at that time, and they have refused to even look at my phone evidence. Now having to seek legal route to get my money back. Avoid at all costs!!
