After Beyonce’s last ‘ am... world tour’ had such positive reviews, and felt everyone had seen Beyonce’s full potential, she as an artist had a lot to live up to and never did I doubt she couldn’t. After, not doing any concerts outside of the US since the last world tour back in 2009 Beyonce had some new amazing songs to perform live on her tour.
The Mrs Carter world tour is the fifth concert tour by American recording artist, Beyonce. In February 2013 it was announced following Knowles’ superbowl halftime performance and entitled in reference to her marriage with Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter. In this tour it was sure to show off the ability that Beyonce has to be able to sing and also dance really well whilst performing. All of the outfits’ that were worn on the tour were designed by several designers, after the tickets went on sale after selling out in minutes she was forced to also bring out some new dates on her tour. The tour began on April 15th 2013 and will end December 22nd 2013, doing 35 shows in Europe, 47 in North America, 7 in South America, 18 in Australasia – 107 shows in total.
Beyonce had lots of high expectations and as the lights dimmed you could feel the anticipation in the audience, After watching the highly talented Luke James (Beyonces support act) work the stage for 45 minutes and get the crowd buzzing and waiting for Beyonce, as the lights completely went off and the band began to play the intro of ‘Run The World’ the audience chanted her name repeatedly waiting for her to make her entrance, as the dancers came on with all the strobe lighting and the sound filling the arena, with a flash of light Beyonce appeared on the stage looking incredible in her first of many costumes of the night. This was the perfect opening song for Beyonce as it shows how powerful and independent she really is. The energy in the room was ecstatic as everyone sang along with the woman herself. Beyonce just stand there and sing incredibly well she danced as well and put on an amazing performance, she had the audiences full attention throughout every song, she really was an incredible artist to see live. After, this song she then went into another classic and upbeat song of hers ‘End of Time’, which was as expected, flawless!
After, thanking everyone for attending the show, interacting with the audience and throwing herself around the stage for the huge opening, Beyonce then brought the mood down a little by dedicating her B’day album track ‘Flaws And All’ to her ‘Beyhive’, amusing everyone by squeezing her nonexistent fat on her arm to prove to everyone she isn’t really perfect. After this Beyonce then professionally ran off stage to get changed into a completely new outfit and was ready in the blink of an eye, she returned to sing ‘If Were A Boy’ and ‘Get Me Bodied’ and then also belted out ‘Baby Boy’ and ‘Diva’ which the whole arena sang along with.
The Mrs. Carter show excels visually, in part; due to the quality of projections. They are beautifully filmed and look very expensive. More importantly, they create atmosphere and add another layer to the production. At was at this point of the show that when I realised that Beyonce really is amazing and perfect as the television and papers make out, was totally blown away and the £60.00 spent on a ticket was well worth every penny.
Again after another costume change, Beyonce then sang ‘Freakum Dress’ with a pair of ballerinas who opened the song, before being taken over by Queen B and her dancers. Then Beyonce busted into the hit ‘Care’ and completely altered it, this had more of a rock feel to it and for me this song gave of the best vibe and you could feel the shock in the arena as Beyonce still gave it 100% even half way through the show, how did this woman do it? Truly inspirational. The 4-era gems kept coming out ‘ Miss You’ and ‘Schoolin Life’ the star went all out giving it an 80’s vibe with the neon lights, and the cute dance routines.
