Bought mine from Bunnings. Used it 4 times in 4 years and the motor shorted out and blew a whole in its wiring. I told Ryobi about it knowing it was out of warranty, but after only 4 uses they did not want to know about it at all. I asked for a price for a new motor and they no longer stock that motor. Great, a throw away machine. I won't be buying Ryobi again.

Borrowed this shredder from my mother-in-law who could not get it working properly on her small bits of greenery. I tried it first on some reasonable branches about 1/2 inch diameter, lots of noise but little shredding. Next I tried it on smaller twigs and leaves. Very little shredding and I had expected the machine to draw the vegetation down through the shredder once it had taken hold but the twigs just stuck there with the blade whizzing around. Perhaps the blade needs sharpening but I gave up. Very disappointed. It is now in the back of the shed which I guess is where it will stay.

i bought the esr 2240 garden shredder/mulcher second hand. A couple of months ago it broke and i bought new blades and centre bolt for it but now i need a wiring diagram or manual can any one help. I have concacted Ryobi on numerous occasions but as yet nothing.I would be very gratefull if any one could send me the wiring diagram via attachment.Up to a couple of months ago it worked brilliantly.

Will accept any size item which will go through the opening, and it draws the pieces in. Copes well with dry or green material. It will jam occasionally but normally when the user is over feeding it. Mine is now 2 years old and the blades have been reversed and sharpened once (not difficult) Great value.

I bought this product from Garden 4 Less but it was damaged in transit. As this was not discovered within 7 days, I was unable to get a refund or replacement, and so contacted Ryobi. Their customer service team were extremely helpful and arranged to pick up the faulty shredder and replace it with a new one which is working fine.

I found this review not helpful because... this review is basically about the delivery and service they got from Garden 4 Less. It's completely irrelevant regarding the quality and performance of the product itself (which is what we are really needing to know).

The Ryobi ESR-2240 Electric Garden Shredder/Mulcher worked brilliantly to spec that is 40mm branches right up to the moment it stopped working after about 3 hours!
Screwfix refunded

This Ryobi ESR-2240 Electric Garden Shredder turned out to be unreliable, only cuts twigs. Branches and bark is too hard. Electrics seize up. Returned it to Bunnings and got a new one only to use it for 3 hours after which it stopped working.

I read the other reviews of this Ryobi ESR-2240 after I had purchased the machine from Screwfix! (£99.99 inc. delivery) so it was with some misgivings that I started work with it. I have just spent the morning shredding a good deal of prunings from various shrubs which has condensed down to 2 rubbish sacks instead of the 10 I would normally finish up with! The thickest branch I has was about 25mm and it dealt with this comfortably. I suspect all manufacturers are at times guilty in overstating their machine's capability? I also suspect that some people ask too much of the machine? I am happy with my purchase.

The Ryobi ESR-2240 Electric Garden Shredder/Mulcher is not a good buy! I personally think the blade is spinning at such a high speed it cannot grab the wood to draw it in.
Very disappointed, packed it up and sent it back to dealer.
I think a shredder with a "worm drive" mechanism may be more efficient.
This draws in the wood like a mincing machine, which is cut by another spinning blade underneath.

I had mine for 8 years now and It is on its third generation of blades but it still works strong so far. it shows a bit wear and tear, the nuts and bolts needing checking every year and the shoot took some damage internally but it is a better and more reliable then newer counter parts
