Do Not Use This Company
First Choice are only fit for an episode of Rogue Traders or Watchdog. They send over a slick salesman with all the answers and as soon as they take your money they stop answering the phone to you. Our installers did arrive pretty much when promised but they did a second rate job. The side windows of the conservatory are leaning out at an angle under the weight of the roof because they weren't installed correctly. Over a year has passed I have had endless unanswered phone calls, written countless letters, contacted trading standards, citizens advice and our local smalls claims court and still no progress. So much time wasted. Oh and the 10 year warranty is also a lie which you will never receive. They should not be aloud to do business. Sadly consumers in this situation get no helpful support to bring companies like this to justice without having to spend a fortune on legal fees.
Avoid Them
When eventually finished the conservatory is ok. The various tradesmen that did the job were very good no complaints with them. However dealing with the company a nightmare, as previous comments I can confirm that calls were never answered or replied to and I was continually chasing them after one tradesman had finished to get the next one in. Still waiting for rubbish to be removed from my front garden 2 months after first contact!!
Had First Choice Around Last October , Agreed On P
Had first choice around last October , agreed on price & ordered it , said it will be started 2/4 weeks after order , left messages & txt but no replies to any thing , I actually thought they had gone bankrupt , I got Conservitory delivered and it had to go in storage , eventually I got hold of some one in April and not really any closer to the work been started , then there builder rang me and asked what needed to done ! He didn't have a clue ! I rang and cancelled and Said i don't want one from your company near my property , then sent recorded delivery explaining how bad they were , so unprofessional . My letter was opened and sent back , saying they weren't there , may be there gone , there trading under another name like solar panel . Don't use them.
Don't Take Their Word
Inside of conservatory good BUT
Once I paid the balance they did not come back to rectify badly done outside work which I did not notice before. Promised to call round but never did. Had to get someone else to do the work . Guarantee WORTHLESS. From acceptance of work to be done total lack of information. Total experience Frustrating. GO to reputable company with trade backing.
And More Of The Same!!!
Nothing original to write here. Conservatory was eventually finished 2 weeks prior to Xmas 2013 - was originally due to be completed for Half term holiday. on 29th December, we had water pouring in where the conservatory was sealed to the building + a number of other snags. It took us 2 months to eventually get an acknowledgement from the company using Direct Conservatories 4u as leverage. A representative appeared to review the issues we were having on Friday 7th March and committed to return the following week to fix - this did not happen. We have not been able to get hold of anyone from First Choice conseravtories since, leaving countless voicemails & emails, and even contacting Direct Conservatories 4u for help. In speaking to Sally last week, she appeared helpless to assist us, even though the problems relate to both the conservatory structure & associated building works. I have spoken to Trading Standards today and will be following a formal process. Such a shame, as the conservatory itself would be fine if the snags had been addressed immediately. Happy to share process we're going through, but am concerned having seen the number of similar experiences that you've all been going through that we will get issues remedied or any damages.
Great news. we had a visit from the roofer who came on Monday morning (bank holiday) and removed a blockage in the downpipe which flooded the channel and re-sealed the flashing with a blow torch. He said that lead was not necessary since new products are used now and that the flashing in place will do the job. We trust and hope that this will be the end of our troubles,we can but hope .
In March 2014 we had conservatory delivered, along with the other 13 comments we also have the same problems. leaking and no response from First Choice. Although we did have a "roofer" come back three times ( "thirty years in the business") he has failed to correct the leak. He used rubberised flashing, any comments on using lead to solve the problem?. Contacted Direct Conservatories and Sally responded on our behalf. Does anyone know if they are trading as no accounts filed. Will appreciate your input on proceedings.
Don't Let Them Near Your Property!
We engaged Worst Choice to build an orangery DON'T! Their work is substandard to say the least and they don't - or won't - communicate. Their main aim is to take your money without paying vat - that is why you pay each trade direct. The groundwork was dreadful - not measured accurately therefore leaving each further trade to compensate for the inaccuracies resulting in a monumental disaster! They don't answer nor return calls ever! We had to contact the manufacturer of the glass work to get any response at all and we are still left with a building which is not water tight and quite frankly looks skew wiff! We have had an independent survey and will be looking for compensation. Even if they turned up wanting to make everything good I wouldn't want them anywhere near my property!
Warning!!!!!
This is my second review as my original one has disappeared. This company used high pressure sales tactics and then no contact once deposit was paid. At no point did he explain that a DIY conservatory company would be used and was very cagey when asked about the company. It became obvious that he was just the middleman and we became worried about what would happen in the event of something going wrong. We became concerned when he offered us big discounts if we made the decision immediately. After 9 days we asked for the return of our deposit and he frightened us into thinking we had to go ahead. Only after dealing with direct4u conservatories did we manage to escape this company. DO NOT HAVE ANY DEALINGS WITH FIRST CHOICE CONSERVATORIES
Terrible / Unreliable /
They were quick enough to make you sign on dotted line but no so quick when you rang to ask what's going on and they never got back to me , got a boxed up Conservitory sitting in garden , I'm so fed up
Beware!!!!
Ditto to all over reviews! Pushy sales, delayed starts and poor communication! Our Conservatory is 2 years old now. We have had damp patches (which initially they did sort out after hounding them day after day) and window problems. Poor building work and no attention to detail or warranty! When initially sold to us they advertised that they were a member of Check a trade. When i checked they said they were not and to be very careful, unfortunately to late. Am thinking a call to the BBC Cowboy builders and Rough traders should be made?!?! Still damp patches with no return calls or after sale care. AVOID!!!!
I agree. Our conservatory is 2 years old and the seals are all coming undone. I have left numerous messages and emails and they have not bothered to get back to me. Last year we had a problem with the door not shutting and it was a nightmare dealing with them. I had to make a complaint to CPA and FENSA!.
I'm in the process of taking them to the small claims court after being ignored for 12 months
I'm thinking we should form a club and complain en masse. Trouble is, no matter how many of us there are, if they won't reply to e mails, texts or phone calls, we can't do anything !!! SOOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING. Stupid company and stupid us for using them !!
Very Upset !!!
Have had my conservatory up for three years now it started leaking in January have been chasing them up since then to get it sorted still no joy in getting it sorted this company should come with a health warning would never use them again even if they paid me !!!!!
Q&A
Is this company still in business? They are based in Bognor Regis. Where can I find their contact number to ask about a problem covered by their ten year guarantee?
The First Choice Conservatories (FCC) we dealt with a year ago was based in Addlestone, Surrey - so it may be a different company - or they may have moved. We came to believe that the 10 year guarantee we were finally sent was not worth the paper it was written on as we could never get anyone to call us back on very many occasions. Consequently, when the doors wanted tweaking a few months after installation, we called in a local company and paid them £30 to do it as it was far less hassle than trying to get hold of FCC again. Good luck!
No contract signed now worried as conservatory is to be delivered w/c 24/3/14. Should I cancel.?
Having just read the other reviews put on this site since I originally reviewed this company, I think you should definitely cancel the contract if you are able to. I was willing to believe we were a one-off bad case, but obviously were were not. Good luck!
