Just had a letter from an 'Ombudsman' rejecting our complaint against HSBC who closed accounts of customers of 30 years because we complained about their service during a time when I was ill with cancer. Demanded we pay £1000 OD in 2 months and FOS consider that FAIR. No consideration of our complaint about their service. Totally one sided. What a joke. This isn't an Ombudsman service its a sycophantic offshoot of the financial institutions in this country. A disgrace. No doubt MPs will do nothing as many will want seats on the boards!

You don't understand the word OMBUDSMAN. Your interpretation is JUDGE and COURT and UNBIASED. Nobody cares for your account less than the FOS. Change Bank - get an inventive and wise up. A bank cannot demand repayment from you in full if you are in receipt of certain benefits (ESA/DLA/PIP) and if this would cause 'hardship'. If they took your money already you can demand it is paid back. A benefit is what the law says you need to live on. It has a table of how much deductions are reasonable by a debtor. (The Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance (Claims and Payments) Regulations 2013) and you may wish to learn what debt really is ... and look inside your wallet and take out a note - read the small print "i promise to pay the bearer ...' and get clued up on promissory notes. If you didn't reject the FOS opinion then change Bank, ask for your money back and use the law on promissory notes to your own advantage. Don't assume that only the Bank Of England can write one or that a promissory note has only one use/ meaning. Use the dictionary and good luck!

I don't think you understand what OD is - overdraft? Also we are not on benefits - I don't think I said anywhere that we are? I also said we were forced to close our accounts - so clearly we have already had to change banks. Thanks for your suggestion to use the dictionary but I suggest also that you absorb what someone else has written before responding with a rather uphelpful and very patronising reply. Thanks for the good luck. We have indeed rejected the FOS decision and filed a complaint with the team leader after which it will go to the independent assessor. Our MP has also written in our support. Thanks for the "Good Luck" anyway.
