I am a Gold Member on Authors Den, and I have nothing but praises for them. They have teamed with Lulu.com as well, and lulu offers publishing packages for varied prices. As well as self publishing at no cost to you. I had a book published by them myself. And you can self publish your books on Authors Den Bookstore, I know because I just did it! And their already at work promoting it. This is most certainly an excellent Authors site, and I for one am very pleased. Their cost of memberships are very reasonable and if you self publish on their bookstore there are some perks along with it as they print and ship for you as well! Fictional author Garry E. Lewis

I've been a member of Author's Den for several years. When I joined I found it very helpful and a great way to have my poetry seen by thousands of people. I didn't like their advertising on my site and so I took out a gold membership - it costs very little for what they offered in exposure. Unfortunately, over at least the last year--and I think it was earlier than that--I discovered my carefully formatted poetry there, occasionally and then often, somehow got altered to prose formatting. After a while I found the formatting would switch back to poetry. It made no sense. I've entered numerous complaints since with no relief. The last advice was that I should "refresh" the site--whatever that means, and to add more poems. What is weird is that when I go to the site my poems may wander in and out of their original formatting. At this point I'd have to see some real changes there to recommend the site--at least for poetry.

The Authorsden is where Writer's come together in support of one anothers work either is story, article, or poetry. I with honesty can say the Writer's there have an array of talent. Also, their work is constantly being promoted in reviews by others Writers and visitors to the site.

Author's Den is a community of authors where you can explore all area of writing. I've been a gold member for a couple years now, and it's just too good of a site to let it pass by.

I found this site only very recently. I am really happy to see this wonderful site.
From India as a freelance journalist I wish to make use of it fully. So nicely designed that it attracts me a lot. I recommend all to use it.
I wish to meet all writers all over the world through this and also I wish to promote my books "health care scenario in India", "environmental issues in India", infra India" and the recently published" everybody has two mothers" through this beautiful website.
Great! Well done - the software architects have designed this neatly.
Congrats to them.
Its a pleasure to use it.
Hats off to all who have created with care devotion and hard work day and night.
They must have toiled and it has fetched sweety fruits.

I've recommended AuthorsDen to a number of writers who didn't have a website. It's easy to set up a web site and post material and the expense is minimal.
The people at AuthorsDen are responsive to problems. Well recommend this Ezine website.

Authors Den is not a publishing company, it is a place where authors can showcase their work, and readers can come to read them. Along the sides of the screen authors can find plentiful of advertising information on publishing, freelance writing, and other opportunities that may be of interests to them.. It is up to the authors to step forward to take the opportunities.
On the whole I would give an 8.

AuthorsDen has over 1.4 million readers visting AuthorsDen monthly, the more authors the better for both authors and readers.
Excellent site to use as a business portfolio. I've received writing opportunities from my Authorsden site. The site is easy to find your way around and management is supportive and helpful.

A lot of what I have read is really bad and written by random people that is just preaching their opinions, and is it some kind of Christian site? As most of the articles that seem to be published are of a Christian nature.
Are there any other professional sites that offer free membership etc that are for writers? I.e the art of writing, and not just a way as to voice their own opinions.

I have been a member of the Authors Den website for several years, since 2001 - during its beginning. I am a lifetime member so I do not pay annual fees. I did pay for a subscription for two years, as a "gold" member, and during those two years I found their "services" and offers to publish; hard copy journal, individual author books and an anthology - to be false.
The problem with Authors Den is that it does not live up to its statement, "to bring authors and readers together". This website is closed to the public, which means the only readers the authors receive are "registered" with Authors Den. The only way an author can build readership is to send links to their contacts after posting work. The site offers nothing of value to the authors, which was the original "concept" - to provide a venue for authors, readers, critics, publishers, agents and editors to review works and establish relationships through networking. In this, Authors Den has failed. The idea that Authors Den is a site for professional writers is ridiculous! The writing and reading level of its core members is between 6.4 and 7.2. This is not a site which houses literary minds. It is a site for housewives and "prince and princesses" of poetry. There are exceptions to this generalization, and possibly as many as a dozen interesting writers, but all too often they do not stay on the website, as they recognize that there is no value in maintaining membership.
This is a vanity site, which is obvious by the number of asinine responses posted as reviews, to each of the core members. Critiques are few and far between. The only value to this site is to use it as an interchange between the author and his contacts, and as a filing system and index for personal use. There are questionable practices, some which may breech copyright laws, others which border on defamation and slander. Other concerns are the number of author's pages which directly link to questionable sites. The owner of the website is fully aware of these issues, that to date, remain unresolved.

I found this review helpful because... it provides an in depth look at my major concern. As a professional book reviewer, I expected to become a "reader" that would become involved with authors. Instead the site offered nothing to me as a new member except sending me form letters that were addressed to me as an author...Then they started to request money...before I even had a chance to understand where I might fit there...

I totally agree with this analysis...Readers do not randomly come and become members...I joined to respond to a client's needs and posted my reviews...I've done a few things, and will probably continue to check it out...but, frankly, unless readers are treated as well as the authors...what good can come for an author... I'd like to see some statistics that show that the readers have bought and discussed the books, etc., before I will be happy.

I signed up at Authors Den (www.authorsden.com) just over a year ago when it was already a paid service. I understand that some people were offended that they are no longer FREE. I never knew the site under those conditions. For my writing budget US$20 a year is an easy YES when it comes to all the traffic I get on www.authorsden.com. I recommend their basic plan to all serious authors and poets - best bang for your buck.

As a member for several years I enjoyed the time on the site Authors Den I had a large readership and this is a plus the offerings they give to the authors is very nice. I did object to management allowing bashing to much or showing favouritism to some authors over others. One reason I chose to leave the community.

I gave consideration, as to what I could as a long-standing member, (since virtually its inception) say about the present site.
Authorsden.com where authors and readers can come together, fact or fiction?
The statement appears to be true, although under scrutiny facts regarding the readership figures have little semblances to truth or reality.
Quoted figures are nonsense in real terms; less than 5% suggested readership leaves any form of review, a large amount of the reviews submitted are probably from the resident author's selves.
Which if analysed further makes for extremely poor reading from an author view point.
And if by chance submitted to the real commercial world, would indeed be laughed at out of hand.
None of the submitting reviewers are allowed give any from of critical review, and any author who ventures to suggest a criticism of the posted work, either have their comments removed, or is arbitrarily banned as a member, with no refund towards their unexpired membership fee. (Woes betide anyone silly enough to subscribe to a three-year membership).
The site in ease of operation from some readers view is possibly one of the best constructed sites available, and indeed fortunate to have acquired such an up and running site. Unfortunately the site is continually beset by technical problems.
In order to placate the growing concerns from the poetry subscribing members (Who it would appear constitute by far the largest section of fee paying members)that they appeared to be getting nothing in return for their investment, of money, time, and posted effort.
Having spent three years on Authorsden in various guises I feel that I am probably as qualified to present an opinion as any other Author/ Member.
My conclusion is that if you are a vanity poet, and are quite happy to spend hours registering senseless, and glowing comments on others authors work, they will indeed respond with a similar amount of nonsensical comment.
If you are a serious writer, or perhaps would like to be recognised as such, then Authorsden could reduce chances of having your work accepted by publishing houses, or even being read by their editorial staff.
Most publishers take the view that once posted on AD it is considered published.
and merely reject without explanation.
No doubt a number of AD members will try to point out that their posted work has been accepted, that of course merely points out the exception to the rule, rather than disproving for the vast majority of authors their previously posted work submitted to Editors will be rejected.
So if you are one of those writers that really enjoy seeing your name on a computer screen, and do not mind paying an incredible amount of money for the privilege of doing so.
Then Authorsden is undoubtedly then, the site for you.
Myself I have found the exercise more productive by acquiring a free web site, and receiving up to a thousand hits a month from genuine readers
Hesione.

I'm a Gold Member on Authors Den, I have just self published five books of mine On Authors Den. Yes they're a site that promotes authors works, poetry, articles, etc.. But they also now offer self publishing on their sight. Check it out, they have their own Book Store. It's a fantastic site for Authors to promote their work, and Authors Den does an excellent job helping authors do just that. They are working towards establishing even more options for their authors as well. Their Great! Yours truly Fictional Author Garry E. Lewis
