“Had the two night getaway bought as a Christmas...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by closes on 07/01/2018

Had the two night getaway bought as a Christmas present from my boyfriend LAST WEEK! As I was eager to get a couple of nights away booked in very soon I got round to booking the experience well before the expiry date (December 2018) and with a definite 4 weeks notice as requested, I called to arrange bookings on 2nd January 2018. Having had my first two separate dates refused by one hotel due to some local events meaning that we weren't their top priority (since they were expecting to fill up the rooms anyway) I decided to contact a second hotel and requested either any Thursday/Friday bookings or Friday/Saturday bookings between now and the expiry date of the voucher. Imagine my surprise when they said they were already completely booked up! What are the chances?!!! WOW!! I don't believe that rubbish for one second especially when I have since been on a different hotel booking website and found many of the dates I requested that were available!! I took screen shots of the dates I had requested and the cost of the booking and sent them to the hotel owner (who conveniently only deals with bookings via email and never answers the question phone). I was then accused of being abusive and slanderous!!! I am completely livid!!! To further add to the insult I was given a list of dates to choose from (~10 for the whole year!!) which were all midweek and all required a 'compulsory ' payment of £40 for breakfast (must be made of gold! The voucher excludes breakfast but makes no mention that you will be required to buy it as a COMPULSORY extra!) and also a COMPULSORY payment for an upgrade to a 'superior' room!!! THE ABSOLUTE CHEEK OF THIS IS BEYOND BELIEF! I and disgusted with the whole matter and will be returning my voucher to Debenhams well within the 28 day return period. I have seen some nonsense about being unable to return activated vouchers but since it is a requirement that you activate the voucher before being able to book anything, then I have the good faith in humanity that someone will be able to see the injustice of this situation. Activity Superstore should not be in operation as a business. I'm OUTRAGED that they can get away with this rubbish. I will be contacting watchdog and trading standards. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE EXPERIENCES!!!!

Activitysuperstore's Response to closes's Review

Written on: 11/01/2018

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

Firstly I would like to apologise that such a special gift is causing you problems. This is never what we expect our customers to receive. With our hotel breaks, at some locations we will only have a certain amount of allocated rooms, which may be why you have been told the rooms are fully booked.

In regards to the compulsory upgrade and breakfast, I am not aware of any hotels within our scheme that make this compulsory, therefore if you could kindly contact me direct with your voucher number and your choice of hotels, I will gladly investigate this further.

I look forward to hearing from you, in hopes of resolving this situation.

Kind regards

Charlotte Howland
