blackwaterman's review of AEG 49322i-MN Electric Cooker

“freestanding double oven with Induction hob”

★★★★☆

written by blackwaterman on 25/12/2014

Went for induction hob to minimise energy usage, and cleaning. Have certainly achieved this, and all pots & pans also stay like new, with no heat markings apart from frying pan. I bought a 'graded' or slightly blemished one online to reduce the ridiculous UK price, and paid £769 incl VAT & delivery in 2013.

Firstly, I had to check compatibility of all cookpots, discarding all aluminium ones. Some of my random stainless-steel ones were magnetic (just test with a simple fridge magnet - no big deal) and some weren't, so out they went.

I found a complete, new boxed set of SS pots & pans, all magnetic, on Gumtree at a bargain price. All worked perfectly, and still do. There's no mystique to the cookware despite loads of mumbo-jumbo abounding. If it's magnetiseable, it'll work! Watch out for the odd stainless-steel items, though, as above. It can be tricky finding a suitable good-quality non-stick frying pan at a budget price.

Installation was very simple, directly replacing a ceramic hob cooker. I found the new hob remarkably easy to use, without reference to the booklet. Control is really precise and because only the pan is heated, the response is really fast. I could easily fry chips without discolouring the oil at all, enabling further re-cycling!

Oven controls can be a bit overwhelming with options and choices, but there's something for every occasion. In fact, the easy-wipe control panel offers an option for everything one can possibly need in a cooker.

The top oven was much bigger than my earlier 'standard' cooker, and the grill pan is enormous! The thin profile of the induction hob above it, helps in this respect.

The instruction book quality is disappointing, with fonts, diagrams and explanations needing much enlargement. Luckily, just fiddling around is the best way!

I'm dreading the situation arising if I need any repairs. Despite most electronic parts being, I'd bet, pretty fundamental, I expect hefty premiums to be added for the relevant 'special' AEG part number with much sucking of teeth during fault diagnosis in UK.

One unanticipated problem arose. Due to the much reduced energy wastage, my unheated kitchen is very markedly cooler!

Loneranger999's Response to blackwaterman's Review

Hi...In early Sep2015 i've just purchased a AEG 49332i-mn Induction cooker (same as your one)and it was delivered and installed accordingly. As I was tidying up afterwards I noticed that thermal wadding was visible underneath the cooker as I could see it was lying on the floor. On pulling the cooker away from the back wall and tilting it backwards, I could see that the underneath baseplate only had the rear part present and that there was no underneath front half baseplate present. I have been advised by an engineer that this is normal, but it seems very strange to me that this expensive Induction cooker is engineered deliberately with no front half underneath base plate and that if the plastic screw feet are raised to any significant level the thermal wadding will be very visible underneath as it's not held up in any way on the cooker. Has anybody else checked this on their AEG cooker?

Bought an AEG induction oven in June 2014. Encountered the same problem with the thermal wadding which was disappointing given the cost of the appliance, Additionally encountered early issues with the main oven door which has to be lifted slightly to close properly. Perhaps am lucky as I am aware that some consumers had doors falling off. Main current issue is the electrical supply to the oven which was frequently tripping causing error messages to come up. Frequent turning off at the mains then on again. Oven now no longer functioning with thermostat ( I hope) issues. Currently waiting on an electrical engineer to inspect. If not fixable then will need new oven, which wont be an AEG.
