I was a very old (55) learner driver and was frankly dreading having to learn (I didn't do it out of choice). However, the AA driving school call centre was so easy and friendly to use (unlike all other call centres I have ever used) that that was a good omen for what was to come. My tutor was patient ,professional, very wise and we actually had fun (I think!!) which is not what one thinks of with a driving lesson. With hindsight I realise how carefully and cleverly he was introducing me to each new aspect of the road and how to drive it e.g roundabouts, slip roads etc etc. Apart from a few confidence wobbles, all went well; I didn't run anyone over (which I fully expected to happen)or lose my temper and I passed first time with only 3 points. My tutor deserves a knighthood!! I then did a Pass Plus day with him which was fantastic. Rural driving, high speed dual carriageway (A303) and then M3, M25 and M40. The M25 was quite amazing, I would never have believed that I could do it but I did. Regrettably, I now have a taste for speed. I would recommend the AA driving school to anyone who is learning. Obviously it wasn't as cheap as learning with an individual e.g "Pete's Car" but as I was so old I had lots of savings. However, if the object of driving lessons is to learn to drive a car and pass a test than it was excellent value for money. However, as a side issue, I think that the test could be made harder and the Pass Plus should be obligatory, at the very least the motorway driving part should be obligatory.
