I re-learned to drive with RED Driving School in the Edinburgh area (Trinity). I had not driven for over 30 years, and before that had been driving on the right-hand side (Germany, Canada). When I started looking for a school/instructor in May to get my UK license, it seemed impossible to get booked in for a course of lessons until September. RED (whose attractive fleet of cars I had seen driving around in my area)was the only school that came through after 3 days of trying to accommodate me (other schools were quick to hang-up on me), saying they had found a RED instructor close to my area willing to travel the distance to take me on.The rates and discounts for a starter-package were attractive too.

After my first lesson with my freshly qualified instructor, I realised that I had hit the jackpot. Every lesson after that, up to the last 3-hour session that took me to, through, and back from the test (I passed, hurray!), confirmed this first impression. I found him an unusually passionate and dedicated driving instructor who is not just really "into" the art of good driving, but also a very conscientious and resourceful teacher who invests a lot of his own time and effort to further his teaching skills and/or adjusting it to the learner's own needs. For him it is not just about the technicalities of driving, but also about "building up" the psychology of the Learner. By the time my test came around, I was ready to "own" my driving. He is also a very balanced, friendly and easy-going person who never loses his cool and never fails to show the learner due respect and empathy. The car always arrived in perfect condition (always clean), and both were always right on time. From day one, I enjoyed and looked forward to my lessons, something I had not expected. I started going on drives on my own the day after the test, and I appreciate that my instructor has prepared me well for that too.

RED itself administers the delivery of driving instruction very well; I found it well-organised and easy to engage with. I always got a reply when I e-mailed or called. Could not have wished for more or better.
