“I`ve had freeview from sky & the geniun freesat...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Freeky on 09/06/2010

I`ve had freeview from sky & the geniun freesat service as well as a concurrent freeview recorder, freeview from sky is very much the poorer service, you don't get all the same channels as you get on freeview (as the previous reviewer mistakenly stated) You can't get 5 unless you have a card or use the v awkward manual scan. Dave, Yesterday, Virgin, Fiver & FIVE USA are missing to name a few.

Other issues are the card only lasts so long, then you have to buy a new one, or put up with extra missing channels (so not exactly freeview!)

You also have to put up with skipping past loads of channels you can't view, compare that with the freesat service that only lists all the channels that are viewable.

Picture quality wise its clear that sky SD is poorer than the same on freeview, I do note that there is no difference between the picture on my sky box compared to my freesat box.

In conclusion I feel the freeview from sky service is only there to respond to the genuine freeview/freesat services & is deliberatly degraded to persuade you to buy a sky package.

“I've Freesat from Sky for about five years now....”

★★★★★

written by on 23/07/2008

I've Freesat from Sky for about five years now. Because I live in a bad reception area the aerial rigger suggested sky freesat. A one off payment £120 fitted with no monthly subscriptions. ( £150 now).
It`s the normal sky digital box showing the free to view channels. It shows all the channels that are on freeview plus about 150 more. Ok! Some of them are a load of rubbish, but it's a million times better than my aerial reception.
After a year Sky will phone and ask if you want to move onto one of their packages, if you don`t want that just say no, they will not bother you again.
I have experienced no problems except a Lnb change.
The new BBC / ITV freesat can be run from this same dish.
