The most dreadful Cup Cakes and Service ever experienced. Working in London for the morning I spotted this bright shop and I purchased a selection for an afternoon treat. A couple of hours later my friends were seated, smiling in apprehension for a fluffy light frosted delight, cup of tea in hand – then I handed the cakes out… the illusion was shattered. They were old, dry and stale. The cake was so hard we had to peel the paper case off in strips. They tasted powdery and the overly sweet whipped frosting, tasted fatty, synthetic and foamy. The cake was more like a trifle sponge. Each inedible £2.50 cupcake went into the bin. Candy Cakes flippantly said the cakes were fresh that day. They offered me 4 replacement cakes if I travel back to the shop in London and collect – after asking for a refund for the cost of the cakes (nothing more) which in my mind still didn’t cover the bad feeling or embarrassment, I was told to take my receipt back into town and present it to the assistant at the store. Having just returned from New York and experienced the legendary cupcakes of the Magnolia Bakery, along with exemplary service – all I can say of Candy Cakes is AVOID. A pack of M&S cupcakes are leagues above these in quality and deliciousness
