Getting an online credit report-Impossible and stressful!!!
-My experience
Having spent over 30 minutes, trying their website and phone calls, no report on line!

Having spent many minutes, trying their website, with a multitude of questions, online, that went back over 15 years of prior addresses and questions on credit cards I was refused access. I called the company with the refusal ref number, on their 0844 number. Waited many minutes and then spoke to a person with an accent that was difficult to understand, but went through the same process of questions with the operator . Questions after question after question, When asked questions with known answers I was asked if I knew a more recent CC details, as my answers were unacceptable, then another. I at last said yes I have just taken out a cc in the last two months, and gave them details. They then ask what was the balance on the account. 'I don't know I have not yet received a statement this month'. I was then totally refused access, yet again, on nearly 12 different questions. There was no way I could get my report on line or by phone, even though they say this is the easiest and fastest way according to their website. If you know actually finite details (when did you take out the CC twelve years ago? etc).
I then asked for a supervisor. 'Not one available as they are all answering tel. calls'. I said 'I can see why'. It appears that the company revels in making you stay on a 5p per minute tel. charge. I then asked what do I need to get a report sent by post. Amazingly they said just pay £3.50 (not the £2 advertised) and it will be sent-simple as that, no further security. (Could it be intercepted or lost in the post?). The extra £1.50 was admin fee for discussing it with the tel. operator. The operator said could I hold while the order was processed. Several minutes later the operator returned. ~I asked why did it take so long to process a credit charge. She said she was placing the order- several minutes to process a cc?. I then asked to speak to a supervisor again. The same answer. I said I would hold for one to come available. Again, minutes later the supervisor came on the phone and went through the process of asking my name and details as if I had just started a new call in, I asked why and the answer was their 'gem' It is for identity fraud. What can you say? I said it appears that Equifax does everything to increase costs to the client and not provide a real service but just increase their income from the tel. calls and extras. Imagine how many customers a year who experience this happening. I asked who is the governing body that they are under. They told me the Finance Ombudsman, I asked if the call was recorded for reference , They said yes. Good bye!

I reported them to the ombudsman, for stress and costs (time and stress) which was accepted and they are writing to them. Also to trading standards for misleading and poor trading publications and service. Thye are also writing to them.
When I used Experian and callCredit for reports, these were processed on line in a matter of a few minutes.

If more people reported them then maybe we might see an improvement-somehow!
The worst company I have come across in my 55 years in dealing with various businesses.

Hi there,

I was very interested in your review as my partner and I are having similar difficulties with Equifax. Can I ask how you went about complaining? Reading these reviews has made my mind up about pursuing my complaint and want to make sure I go about it in the most effective way. I look forward to your response.
