After my Creative T40 speakers died, I was on the lookout for another set of 2.0 speakers and at just over £50, these "Genius SP-HF1800A" 3 Way Wood Hi-Fi Speakers are £30 cheaper than my old Creative T40s, sound better and look better (they are the size of 'proper' hi-fi speakers and yes, they are made of wood apart from the front panels which are plastic). There is an amplifier built in along with volume, treble and bass controls, a headphone socket and a front 3.5mm jack line-in socket for plugging mp3 players etc ... in without needing to disconnect any wires from the back of the speakers. The sound is punchy and the bass is excellent for a set of desktop speakers without a '2.1' subwoofer, and the price is a steal considering they sound like speakers that should cost 2-3 times the price. One downside - there are no speaker covers so the 3 cones in each speaker are exposed (but it does mean you can see the bass speakers vibrate which looks cool).
