Tricked people blind using under-qualified engineers and charging people even if they didn't fix the issue
written by dgcart on 19/06/2019
It was inevitable that PC Callout's business model and very dodgy business practices would fail at some point. The company appears to have disappeared (website down, e-mails returned, phone not being answered) leaving some of their self-employed engineers unpaid and customers who had paid up front for over-priced/unnecessary parts, high and dry. All the Directors live in Spain but the company is registered in the UK according to Companies House albeit at just a correspondence address in central London. So it looks unlikely anyone owed money by PC Callout is going to get any recompense without a struggle. Adios PC Callout.

Do not call this company. The advert is not what it seems. There is a call out charge, there is a fee for no fix. The engineers I am guessing to earn money just try to look like they are fixing a computer that CANNOT be fixed. They have to earn their money. The advert they use you cannot blame anyone for calling. The customer service is disgusting the directors are rude in there replies. OH yes there is a long winded explanantion on the no fix no fee but at the end of the day the minute you let the engineer in to "fix" your computer you will be charged, even when it cannot be fixed. If you value your wallet and your computer do not call this company "family run". Would not want to be part of the "family". Have some self respect avoid using or working for this company.

Don't use this company or give them your card details. They overcharge for cheap equipment and don't respond when asked for a refund after overcharging.

As I will probably not be allowed to put this comment on Trustpilot due to the current activities of PC Callout Ltd on its website, this is a word of caution from a previous customer. There has been a sudden rush of "5 star" reviews in the last 10 days or so on Trustpilot. This is all very odd. These may be genuine, but I have let Trustpilot know about my serious concerns and it would not surprise me if these turn out to be put up jobs in order for PC Callout Ltd to counterbalance the negative reviews. It is all very odd that some of these "5 star" reviews have been posted within hours of each other and in the same week. My advice to Review Centre readers is to completely avoid this company no matter how urgent your repair job is.

I would also suggest that the recent spate of 5 star reviews on Google in the last 10 days be regarded with the same suspicion. There is nothing this company will stoop to in order to boost its ratings. Trading Standards in the UK (the Directors of PC Callout Ltd live in Spain and hide behind a correspondence address in central London) really need to do something about this company. Great username by the way!

I see that one of the Directors of this so-called computer repair company, posted a 5 star review on a very well known search engine over the Christmas period. Must have had too much Spanish sherry as he used his real name! I have reported this. In case the Review Centre does not allow me to state his surname - think of a low lying country in Europe with windmills and canals. You will easily spot the review as it was one of the rare 5 star reviews they have had. How low can this company sink?

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have REPORTED TO TRADING STANDARDS AND BBC WATCHDOG and I would advise others who have had unacceptable standards of service from this company to do the same. Their NO FIX NO FEE disclaimer prevents the customer from cancelling in any circumstances which constitutes an UNFAIR TERM and the fact that customers are not provided with a copy of disclaimer notice constitutes a CRIMINAL BREACH OF LAW. Their engineer spent more than 5 hours trying to fix our computer hard drive and we were charged a total £436 and we still we do NOT have a fully functioning computer. He did not possess the skills and necessary technical knowledge or ability, he failed to provide a clear diagnosis, failed to diagnose a power supply problem despite computer cutting out twice during his repair. failed to check everything was running satisfactorily on recall visit leaving computer with an additional problem. A brand new computer with full 12 months guarantee would have been a cheaper option for us, but their disclaimer contract prevented me from cancelling in any circumstances. Three local computer companies have since quoted a fixed price replacement of hard drive/transfer of data including labour between £60-£175. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states there are contract law provisions which ensure that work should be completed with reasonable care and skill and within a reasonable time frame and shouldn’t cost an excessive amount which would not compensate for any beneficial gain. I have had NO RESPONSE from the company to my e mails and recorded letters of complaint regarding these issues. Their website states they will provide: "the highest standards of customer care, we are firmly committed to offering great service at reasonable prices" "Experts in same day repair" "Friendly personal service Guaranteed" I have found this information to be totally MISLEADING and INACCURATE and it appears I am not alone in my experience. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I also reported this so-called "computer repair" company to Trading Standards and BBC's "Watchdog" a few years ago. Trading Standards were very sympathetic but don't appear have taken any action against this wretched little company which hides behind a mail box address in London. According to Companies House, PC Callout Ltd is based in Spain - well all the "Directors" are. They are clearly not directing anything except a huge sham on unsuspecting people. How they are allowed to continue to trade is beyond me.

Sent an engineer to my house, took my laptop apart. Said I needed parts and so I paid £195+ in good faith that parts and engineer would come back the next day. Parts never arrived and sadly realised this company are fraudulent after many calls to them to chase. Avoid like the plague.

I paid for an external harddrive that never arrived. I have been very ill and now able to try and get my money back. I was told by a call handler (female) today, to "F off You stupid ...." and hung up on. Luckily I had a witness and recording of call. I am in tears and shaking. I have been told via email I will be refunded, but, the woman has affected me massively. Do not use this company. I am distraught

DO NOT use this company, particularly in Southampton. Item paid for weeks ago still not received. Appalling telephone manner, when contacted to ask about item, customer was told in an aggressive tone (with witness) that if they were owed something it would have been received and then when questioned further and asked for a refund was told to ''f*** off'' and called a ''stupid b*tch'' by the female call handler who then hung up on caller. Incredibly abusive and disgusting treatment completely uncalled for and unprofessional. Call handler was told she was out of line and that call was being witnessed/recorded. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

This company hires engineers on a self-employed basis - there were not many questions you must answer before you are offered a job with them. The reason all the reviews about this company complain about the engineer not turning up is because this company falsely promises customers that an engineer will be with them within a few hours. They do this before they have spoken to any engineers and hope for the best - this works approximately 40% of the time. The company will ask a few engineers whether or not they can accept the job and what time the engineer is likely to arrive if they take the job. Once this information has been relayed back to the company, they do NOT update the customer. I have called many customers during my time at the company and have been verbally abused the majority of the time - All I can do as an engineer is let you know that I have just received the job and am on my way - I am sorry if the company promised you I would be there last week but I just heard about this job 10/15 minutes ago... It does not look like they are going to change their ways, however, saying that there are some good points: When this company is telling the truth and an engineer does arrive in the time specified - most issues are resolved. If you have any issues which require hardware replacements I would HIGHLY suggest you STAY AWAY from this company. They will promise you the parts will be delivered next day but this process generally takes a week or two. If you have a simple issue which requires some form of software change then I would recommend this company. From what I have heard through the grapevine, not many of the engineers know what they are doing. If engineers are unsure how to fix an issue, the company provides a technical support "guy" who the engineer is expected to call on your time. This company also does not treat their engineers well, issues take weeks to resolve and invoices paid late are rarely justified.

Rung up to for someone to come out and look at my computer. On the phone I told them that the hard drive was broken. Engineer arrived spent 10 minutes looking at it then told me my hard drive was broken and attempted to charge me the fee. I questioned this as he had no repaired the problem. i was then told that a diagnosis was still chargeable. I then contact the company to be greeted by a very disrespectful, obnoxious and rude lady who basically called me a liar and told be they will be sending a debt collection agency to collect the monies owed. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! They need to be shut down!

Numerous missed appointments, left computer dismantled, said would be back in three days, nearly three weeks later still no sign. Make numerous appointments and never turn up, lots of different excuses - avoid! Told on three separate occasions they now had the part and when engineer failed to turn up told wrong part each time

First appointment engineer was sick given another appointment didn't turn up next day given an appointment with 10% discount didn't turn up no phone call steer clear:

AVOID this company like the PLAGUE. the people they use are self-employed on a ad-hoc basis.my own problem started with a duff motherboard that took them 2 hours to diagnose and source a replacement and a further 1 hour to install. although I was assured it was fully compatible, it was not. My defunct board had a wired LAN connection on board the replacement did not so at the moment I am left with a useless wired network. The engineer ( Ali from Bristol) just said to use a dongle but I can't find one yet that comes with installation drivers as my pc has no internet access. In addition to this their engineer had the cheek to charge me £8 for a smear or processor paste, although I suspect that this was his perk.I URGE YOU TO CHECK OTHER CONSUMER REVIEW SIGHTS THAT CONFIRM MY OWN EXPERIENCE. I have received no response to my several complaints to their registered office and quite frankly don't expect to, However I have plenty of time and will first will contact consumer rights under The Consumer Right Act 2015 and go from there. In the meantime I am off to find other consumer review sites to post my complaint. hopefully to avoid other people being suckered as I was

So disappointed with PC Callout. Have used them for over 10 years and had no problems until the last 6 months. As other reviews have stated my latest 'engineer' didn't turn up no phone call and only screen chat. Eventually someone came next day hour and a half late. Didn't resolve my problem but installed Internet Explorer without asking if I wanted it or not. PC much much worse and soooo slow. I have emailed them requesting a refund as they have as they say 'no fix no fee' but I won't hold my breath

yes, they give very unprofessional and bad service.I was suckered by their assurances and now do not get a reply to my complaint.I am taking the advice of consumer rights with the intention of progressing the matter to trading standards or the small claims court

Used to work for this so called company years ago and I am very happy to see that something has caused them to cease trading for the time being... But who knows they may re-surface in the future with another 'family run business' of 2-3 people (who use fake names) living in Marbella.

PC Callout Ltd is required to submit its accounts for up to 31 October 2018 by 31 July 2019 to Companies House. If not, they will incur penalties - anything from £150 - £1,500 depending on how late the accounts are. Any appeal against the penalty is likely to be unsuccessful if its because the company is dormant or its Directors live or were travelling overseas. I wish Companies House luck in tracking the Directors down.

It's a bit odd replying to my own comment but as a postscript, PC Callout applied to Companies House for a voluntary strike-off from the register on 23 October 2019. This was confirmed on the First Gazette (i.e. formal/public notice of voluntary strike off) on 5 November. However, the voluntary strike-off action was suspended as Companies House has received an objection. You can object if you are an interested party such as a creditor or someone who wants to take legal action against the company. For example, you have proof that a company owes a debt. Good luck to whoever is objecting.
