“Overview of Proview CY-565”

★★☆☆☆

written by Honestreviewman on 02/09/2013

This monitor is excellent for simply displaying a simple VGA input from a standard computer. But, for more advanced purposes, this sucks. It's Hz is abysmal and displays in about 30fps. I have acquired a gaming laptop (8gb ram, i6 processor, 2.6 Ghz processor, 700gb hard drive with a decent graphics card) and the difference between them is like night and day. My laptop displays in about 70 fps. The Proview monitor displays in around 30fps. I have also been inclined to use a monitor to play my PS3 on instead of a HDTV. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. I bought an HDMI to VGA converter, doesn't work with it because of too low a Hz. I bought an AV s-video to VGA convertor that doen't work either. So now I am inclined to buy a 22" HD monitor with it's own HDMI port.

I paid just under £200 for my Proview about three years ago. It has been great ever since then. I do have problems with the drivers, and had to jump through hoops and have an old monitor hooked up to get it to work with my Windows XP Pro and new Windows XP Media Center Edition PC, but that fixed it works a treat. No issues with it other then the afore mentioned. Compared to an old style monitor the picture is fab. Compared to better TFT's it is good but not great, all in all as a budget TFT it was worth the money three years ago, now you can get better

This Proview monitor was and still is an excellent budget buy. It's been going strong for three years and still looks good. Pictures are flawless and it has a decent integrated speaker set. What more do you want on the cheap?

I agree with this (see my review) except the speaker bit. The speakers sound, well, painful to say the least. If you just use it to listen to the beeps and Windows boot noise OK, but anything else - forget about it.

“For one week the Proview Proview Tft 15" Active LCD CY...”

For one week the Proview Proview Tft 15" Active LCD CY 565 was great, although it had to be unplugged frequently to turn it off. From the second week it started turning itself on and off and sometimes it would not turn on at all. I tried to find out the manufacturers details to no avail. After 15 months it just turned into a piece of modern art with kaleidascopic screen displays. I did ask PC World for the address of the manufacturer as I had purchased it from them, but they told me they had no idea, I asked from whom they had got it and they said they did not know. I then asked if it had been delivered at night from a plain van with no documentation or invoice and the salesperson agreed. Moral do not buy proview and never, never buy from PC World who have the world's first customer dis-service department.

“Proview Proview TFT 15" Monitor: ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GiantElectric on 09/04/2005

Proview Proview TFT 15" Monitor:
So, you want great clarity, definition and crisp colours? You want onboard stereo sound combined with a flat widescreen tube? Want a 15" screen-enough to work with but not so much - it takes up space? This unit provides all those things..
Oh... Except it'll only last up until the warranty exceeds. Then it suddenly develops unsightly patches all over the screen/dead pixels & finally decides to breakdown - mine started turning itself on/off every 20 seconds like a mental thing. This unit restored my faith in the old style cathode ray monitors - I think any consumer requires the kind of quality which, at least, lasts the term of their PC's life. I paid £200 for the Proview CY565 (when lcd`s first hit the market at affordable prices). It only lasted roughly 16 months. The other drawback I found - had to look at the unit directly or the picture became to dark and hazy. Watching DVDs was a nightmare,
I found myself constantly adjusting the display or craning my neck. These monitors also have the term "active" associated - basically means you can't turn them off unless you unplug the mains (I don't know how they worked that one out as some kind of vantage point)? Effectively, they're always on (standby or otherwise). Considering that LCD`s are becoming notorious for breaking easily with extended usage, this seems like a bad design feature. This monitor claims to be wall mountable but came with no brackets, plates or otherwise. I later found I would have to purchase these separately so I didn't bother. I will never buy anything made by this company again. They don't even have a support line or any head office location in their user manual. Although I've noticed Proview LCD monitors have come down considerably in cost; I'd say it's probably false economy for anybody purchasing their line of products.
