“They've changed”

In the past decade since so many Thorntons shops closed down, the chocolates still available in Hallmark/gift shops have completely changed from creamy and decadent, to waxy and tasteless (Viennese truffles in particular, which have always been a favourite). They now resemble nasty American chocolate. Won't be spending £4+ on a single packet again.

Couldn't agree more! So disappointed with the boxes of Continental I bought for Xmas presents. Thank goodness I tried one first.
Used to be my favourite chocolates so when I discovered they made a box of dark ones I couldn't resist buying one for myself. Ugh! Horrible cocoa taste & nothing like the original. Fillings totally different too. How can they be allowed to use the same name for them?

“Not what they used to be ”

Just had a box of continental chocks for Christmas whata let down compared to how good they used to be .I think there’s a good chance this company will go bust if they don’t pull there socks up . A salute Rubbish .

I totally agree with you after having bought Thorntons for the last 40 years! This year's box was so disappointing and I kept saying to my husband 'They are not the same." They seemed like 'bog standard' ones from the supermarket. Then I started remembering the ones which were missing and from the original 'Continental Selection' and then it dawned on me something was not right and my suspicions were confirmed when I read this review! I definitely won't be buying them again and would rather pay more, eat less and get better quality. It's such a pity they are no long on the High Street.

“Not the Thornton’s continental selection I know and...”

For the last 30yrs my son has bought me the continental selection,beautiful chocolates,since stores closed they have “gone back” tremendously, none of the infamous diplomat,vanilla truffle or Viennese truffle only original chocolate in box was the Alpini, we won’t be buying again all taste the same no different flavours waste of money may as well have bought milk tray or dairy box at least you can taste what they are !!! Very dissatisfied customer

“Terrible chocolates ”

Thornton’s used to be the best quality chocolates available but now they are on a par with all the other tasteless and cheap chocolates on the market, totally disgusted and disappointed, they went in the bin, I really hope that rather than continue to ruin the reputation Thorntons had, the new owners give it up and stop trading. Giving one star is a joke and only given as I couldn’t give zero.

“Really hard toffee you could break a tooth on it .and...”

Toffee has gone so hard it does Not soften in your mouth even after a min or two.all the toffee has gone the same .no wonder the profits are down .Unless this is put right I won't be buying the toffee or choc any more .

“Broken Bottle”

Recently ordered Xmas Gifts on line around six items. One was broken in the box. Phoned Thornton's and I received a replacement the very next day at 9am. Excellent customer service and I already know the chocolate is brilliant much better than the most popular brands already on the market. The only way I think you could get better is by going to Belgium and buying Belgium chocolates. WELL DONE THORNTONS

“How boring are continental chocolates?”

Thorntons continental chocolates are all very well, nice chocolate and all, but don't they all taste pretty much the same? I took 3 from a box. 1 in a yellow wrapper had maybe the tiniest hint of orange. 1 in an orange wrapper had a crystalline texture but no real flavour jumping out at me. 1 in a purple wrapper had a slightly liquid centre and I got a very very vague idea that it might be caramel. What is the point of chocolates or "truffles" that all pretty much taste thr same? Why don't any of the premium chocolate makers forget their truffles and make a decent box of traditional British chocolates with decent chocolate? PLEASE! Give most of the the "creams" a miss, though. One apalling strawberry/orange cream per layer is more than enough and the recipient can always find an idiot to remove it from the tray! Mmmm, Black Magic in real chocolate..... nice! Bring back "Good News" chocolates in good chocolate - even better! I don't like boxes of continental truffles that all taste pretty much the same, but having gotten used to Lindt and Greens & Black chocolate, I cannot eat ANY British cheap chocolate again. PLEASE, someone, make a decent British chocolate selection in quality chocolate.

“Mean”

I recently had to return a packet of below-par chocolates from Spain to Thorntons in UK. They admitted that the items were sub standard and sent me a voucher for, wait for it, £5. That hardly covered my postage, never mind the original cost. So be aware.

“Mold on chocolates!”

If I could give it less than one star I would! I purchased several boxes of Thorntons chocolates for christmas presents, when we opened these chocolates we found mold and fur growing on them! I contacted Thorntons and what do a massive business send out? A replacement box of chocolates for the inconvenience! Not just one box but two boxes! I am disgusted that a massive company can't be arsed to take time with there customers and just send a small replacement chocolate for a present present for the people who had the moldy chocolates! I attached picture evidence and the chocolates were in date! I will NEVER buy Thorntons again

“Very poor selection”

I had a Thorntons advent calendar, as usual,this year and for the first time was very glad to have finished it due to the very poor selection of chocolates inside. Then to my dismay found that my usual box of continentals contained the same few, unexceptional chocolates. ALL the favourites missing and replaced by poor quality alternatives. leaving them lying around hoping someone will eat them! Won't be buying again

“fab service”

I had to purchase 35 Christmas chocolate santas for work and I phoned my local Northampton store up to inquire and the lady on the phone confirmed they had in stock and would get them ready for me. When I arrived the shop was busy, Once i was ready to be served the manager was attentive and extremely helpful and as my bags weren't good enough he placed them in clear plastic sacks- As I knew I wouldn't be able to carry all the sacks, I advised I would come back in the morning to collect the rest of the santa. The trainee in the branch than offered to assist me back to work with the remaining boxes while he was on his lunch break! This was beyong customer service and I was bowled over by his offer which I gladly excepted....... Upon leaving the store I was offered a free raster! which I accepted and advised the manager to give his trainee a payrise!!!!! Just goes to show that there are still people out there willing to gfo the extra mile!!!!!! Happy Christmas Thorntons I will defo be back

“A massive variety in general so why given such little...”

So xmax is coming and my daughter wants a "special" advent calender, none of this cheap £1 shop stuff or supermarket general stuff !! NO WAY ! she wants what she thought was the best -THORNTONS. So im dragged to the thorntons store wife also in tow and the choice is immediate "i want this one daddy" £10 but theres an offer 3 for for 2 cheapest free sort of thing "mix and match" so i think OK 3 it is (the kid coming out in me) so we get 3, CLASSICS for my daughter CONTINENTAL for me and the wife (too mature for an advent calender) goes for The PUDDING COLLECTION .Then on december 1st come the realisation of "HOW BORING IS THIS" 24 chocolates in the advent calenders but only 10 different choices -so thats every chocolate repeated once and some three times ,the same with the classcs and even worse with the PUDDING COLLECTION ,ONLY 5 CHOICES WITH 30 chocolates so thats the every choccy repeated 6 TIMES??!!!! WHATS GOING ON? THORNTONS IS KNOWN FOR ITS INDIVIDUALITY AND VARIATION .ALL OF WHICH WAS LOST ON THESE 3 DIFFERENT SELECTIONS , if i wanted all the same repetitive chocs i'd have stayed with the original suggestion of £1 shop or supermarket, so in hindsight you only get the variety and variation in the HAND PICKED SINGLEs behind the counter!! so verdict is price is going up and choice quality variation is GOING DOWN c'mon THORNTONS SORT IT OUT, if this remains its nothing more than being part of the "run of the mill " stuff you get every where else .seriously losing standards and customers i should well imagine, very dissapointed, hope santa can put the smile back on my face cos THORNTONS WAS A MAJOR LET DOWN..................

“Failed to deliver”

Terrible service, I paid extra for a specific delivery date, 21 days notice, and they still didn't deliver on time!! Not only that it was for my Mums birthday and the delivery got damaged en route, nobody called to let me know!! Two days after the birthday, still nothing, I had to chase up to find out myself. Disgusting service, I would not recommend Thorntons to anyone, and will never use them again.

“Selection box all tasted the same”

Given a Just For You box selection. Frankly, the chocolates were terrible quality. It was hard to detect the difference between the various "flavours" - they all tasted the same. The chocolate itself tasted fatty and sickly sweet. I would have been disappointed even if they were purchased in a Pound store. A slab of Lindt or even Cadburys would have been infinitely more enjoyable.

“Driving me Mad - Raspberry Cheesecake Easter Egg”

Does anyone else think, if you have tried it, that the raspberry cheesecake Easter egg tastes more like lemon it's driving me mad that it's got loads of good reviews and mine doesn't even taste like raspberries. Don't get me wrong the white chocolate and the bits of raspberries and biscuit in it are great However the overall taste of the egg is driving me mad because I can't taste the raspberries just strong lemon!! Maybe it's just a bad egg lol :(

“Easter Egg lost. ”

I am living overseas and my son is a student in the UK, as he is not over for Easter we decided to chose Thorntons as a reputable company and ordered him an Egg with his name iced on it. I tracked the egg and my son has been checking his post every day. I have just received an email saying the courier lost the Egg and how would I like either a delivery on Wednesday or a refund, how about both as a good will gesture??? I am bitterly disappointed by the service and after care. I will not be using Thorntons again and suggest that you think about using them if you want your gift delivered in time.

“RIP OFF web experience”

We live abroad and have used their web site in previous years with no problems. This year they have changed the check out process, we wanted 3 boxes of chocolates for close family in the UK and saw a great 3 for 2 offer which suited our requirements in one go. However, when you go through the check out process it would not let us separate out the 3 boxes to send to 3 different addresses. I am reasonably computer literate and I spent over an hour trying different ways to process our order. In the end I had to enter each box as a separate item and proceed to dispatch and then start again with the next one. Because of this we lost our 3 for 2 offer and the free postage on the goods and this cost us an extra £35. I have complained, but don't, for one minute, expect a response from them, needless to say we will never use this Rip Off company again. If it would let me post with no stars then I would, so 1 star reluctantly.....!!!!
