I've just bought a roll of these and I'm gutted. They just don't taste like they used to! Hardly any tang and cant tell the difference between flavours. They used to be quite sour which I loved. Bring back the old recipe.. Pleeassse!!!

I really prefer the original ones . The new version are ok but do not have the tangyness the old ones had. Now they are gritty and way too sweet. I live in Canada and it is not easy to find refreshers. I fell in love with refreshers the day sugar came of rationing. My mum gave me 3d so spend that day . I went to a couple of sweet shops near my school and I think I paid 2d for a packet of refreshers and I was addicted to them ever since until they got changed and they are not the same.

when I was little you could put a for pack of refreshers in a can of 7up and you'd have a volcano now its just a quite fizzy what have they done to you my childhood friend . and the lolly's didn't return which sucks big time the green one's where the best.

I haven't noticed a change, they are still tangy and fizzy, I eat 2 packs a day. Last week they were 4 for a pound in my local shop, this week they are 50p a pack but I am not happy as I was eating one tonight and there was a hair right through the middle!

I used to buy a 4 roll of these and would eat them practically all at once. They were pale in colour them and just pure ascorbic acid luxury. Ever since they have put natural flavours and colours there is no taste they aren't morish and a really good classic favourite has become bland and dull. Until they go back to the original recipe I'm staying clear.

New ones, bland, bland, blah.....no difference in taste betweeen the colours. might as well be eating a spoon of sugar. bring back the old ones please, i'm not bothered if they contained artifical colours and flavours, I loved them.

Ahhhh refreshers, I have enjoyed these sweets for years, and yes you can't beat the old ones but just having them back is enough for me, I can now enjoy them again, not easy to get hold of but you can buy them online, but yes I am with you the old style ones tasted better....Pleeeeze bring 'em' back!!

I can't believe anyone has given these sweets a 5* review.
As a child, these were my favourite sweets. Tangy, fizzy and pretty damn good. When I started seeing them on the shelves again, I was pretty happy (despite being 30 years older!)
However, I might as well have been buying chocolate such was the difference between the 'new' and poor versions, in comparison with those which I used to love.
They're sweets. I don't want to see 'natural ingredients' or 'no added colour'. If I wanted something healthy, I'll have a banana. Parents who buy hyperactive children sugary sweets shouldn't.
Sweets are sweets. Don't mess with them. Let the health freaks buy healthy foods and let the rest of us, who enjoy exercising and having a treat now and again, buy sugary sweets.
Very, very frustrating. I'm writing to Bassetts as we speak....

I was addicted to the old style Refresher, always carried some in the car. Then they dissappeared from the shops for a while, and when they returned some months later, they were different; no fizz and too sweet, not the same sweet at all. Now the've dissappeared again from the supermarket shelves. Been looking for months now. Hope the original recipe returns again some time. Never met anybody who didn't like the old style Refresher.

Refreshers are great. I haven't noticed any change to the taste, just happy they're back.

The old refreshers used to have a foamy effervescence to it whereas the new sweets are chalky and drab.
Left deflated and disappointed.

I have to agree with everything I have read. I also have been a fan of Refreshers for years,It was the texture as well as the taste that I loved. The new variety has neither, they're too hard, that melt in the mouth and fizz on the tongue has gone. Bring back the originals, why do they have to spoil everthing. I say lets boycott Refreshers until they get the message!

Tasty and frsh, they remain one of my favorite sweets, I think 30p a role is a little much though but I still buy them when ever I can - getting hold of them seems to be the problem as very few supermarkets stock them. I only wish they weren't so difficuilt to find in the shops

Well I think the idea of all natural is so kids aren't bouncing off the walls all day, I mean as adults they may taste different yeah, but some parents feed their kids junk all day regardless, so if we can make the junk better for you I guess it's all good....maybe we adults need to stop eating sweets like this then we'd have nothing to moan about? Thank god for caramacs though haha x

I love these sweets. Perfect sweet to keep in the car and good for vegetarians. Why can't I find them any more? Have they stopped making Bassetts Refreshers?

New Refreshers are dire - texture and taste are all wrong. Add this to the new recipe for sherbet in the Dip Dabs (same company), which is also vile, those few guilty pleasures in life are gone. Disappointed and guarantee that I will not buy again.

I really like the Bassetts Refreshers fizz factor!

I remember picking up a packet today to relive the fond memories of these great sweets. Upon biting the first one I immediately noticed the off taste. Bassetts Refreshers just do not taste right. I'm getting sick of sweets altering recipes to use 'natural' ingredients when all they do is destroy the flavor, which is the POINT of buying them in the first place! If I want all natural I wouldn't be eating sweets in the first place.
I'm not sure if I'll ever look at a pack of Refreshers in the same way again. Seems these complaints are all in 2008 which makes me think that they didn't change the recipe :/
At least I still have my Atomic Sourballs...

Bassetts Refreshers were my favourite sweets and for ages I couldn't find them in the shops. I was so excited to see them back on the shelves, but that soon turned to disappointment once I tasted them. I like the packaging, but thats about it. PLEASE BRING BACK THE PROPER REFRESHERS.

Bassetts Refreshers are not as good as they used to be - the packaging's poor also, the sweets fall out.
