I didn't like Skeleton Keys and thought it was rubbish, I think it needed to be longer and it should have been more scary.

I you suffer from antireadingitis, then Anthony Horowitz, Skeleton Key may be your cure. The young hero is so super-cool you'll stay with him, even when the storyline stretches your credibility to its utmost. Empathise with this orphan super-spy and you can enjoy the vicarious pleasure of killing great white sharks, outwitting CIA agents, eliminating genuinely evil enemies without actually killing them yourself (that would never do!) and defeating the world's ultimate megolomniac. Riotous fun and excitement from start to finish!

Anthony Horowitz, Skeleton Key - Reluctant teeneage spy, Alex Rider, enters his most dangerous mission yet. Offered a "holiday" by MI6 Operative John Crawley, Alex goes to Wimbledon to watch the tennis, but comes across a Chinese Triad trying to cheat their way into riches. Forced to flee from the triad, Alex is sent to a Cuban island, Skeleton Key, with two CIA agents. Once there, Alex is forced to help the agents stop insane Russian, General Sarov, a man with explosive plans to turn back the clock...

Anthony Horowitz, Skeleton Key is an audio book consisting of 6 CDs and the approx running time is 8 hours. The 6 CDs are enclosed in one box, making it very handy to carry in the car.
The CDs were bought in WH Smith on an offer for Buy 3 for 2, so I am not sure of the exact price, the CDs can still be bought at WH Smith for £11.96 or from Amazon.
On long journeys in the car this is essential to keep the children quiet and to stop them fighting. As the punishment for not listening to the story, the CD is turned off, as you would expect this is not welcome and creates within the car a certain amount of self-discipline and peer pressure discipline, as each one of the 3 boys want to hear the exciting storyline develop. We have listened to this story on at least 3 occasions and each time is as exciting as the last. There is always an anticlimax after the CD has finished and there is a good general discussion about the plot and a number of ideas are suggested as to what might have happened if .. Through listening to this book the younger of the 3 boys has developed an interest in reading and wants to read as mush as he can (age 7). He is not able to read the book, but wants to read things more suitable to his age range.
The book is excellent to read and to listen to in the car, it has been brought into the house and put onto their own CD player and certain parts of particular interest to the children have been repeated.
This is the third book in the Alex Rider series, in this book Alex finds himself on the difficult position of not being able to turn down the invitation to work as a spy again. Alex gets involved with the Japanese Mafia at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, and from this encounter he is forced to act as an American Spy for the CIA. The two people from the CIA looking after him are killed and Alex must save the world. Alex travels to Cayo Esqueleto, Cuba and he links General Sarov with a nuclear bomb which he intends to use to destroy the world.
This is another amazing, well-written book, and is read in an 'easy to listen to voice' by Oliver Chris. Oliver has a very good range of voices for the individual characters and switches from one voice to another with great ease, making the CD very easy and interesting to listen to. I am a great fan of Harry Potter, but the Alex Rider series, in my opinion is better written, with more interesting characters and a better storyline which keeps you listening until the next time there is a break in the storyline before getting out of the car. So much suspense was crammed into the pages of this book.
If you have not read the two previous books, or listened to them on CD, GET YOUR HANDS ON THEM AND LISTEN TO THEM. The storyline on all of the books is very much stand-alone and you do not need to have any prior knowledge of Alex to follow this storyline.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable book to listen to on tape and one that should not be missed by anyone.
Hope you enjoy this review.
P.S If you did enjoy this read please leave a comment as I am new to this game and want to know if I am doing OK.
