Saturday Night Dinner
I chose a vegetarian dish...........mushroom, onion &feta cheese tart with asparagus. I asked the waiter for my asparagus, " it's under the rocket " he replied. I found a small piece of asparagus, approx. 2" long. it was from the stalk end, not even the spear end! He did bring me some more, as he agreed with me that it was an apology for asparagus.
The dinner was not worth the price we paid, & I doubt we shall be going again.

I Was Hungry So I Stopped With My Child For Lunch.
I was hungry so I stopped with my child for lunch. I was hoping that the service got better and not too slow. Takes ages to get your order ready then longer to get your bill!
On arrival, I asked for a drink and asked if they had some colors for my child to be occupied. They served me the wrong drink and they ignored my brining any colors and paper. They asked of I stop my child walking around the pub so I did and I asked about the colors again then they brought it and changed my drink. The food was delayed to the point I was not hungry anymore. Then on the way out I slipped on the floor and hurt my leg because the floor had a spillage. The customers checked on me but the staff took them sometime to come and check what happened. They said to me are you ok? I said no and that was it, they ignored me. I was so angry by that time and asked for a refund and the manager was so rude to say that she wants to know the reasons and she does not give free food away.
Nice place deco wise but that about it. Do not waste your money there. Awful experience.

Ruined Birthday Dinner
I rang on the afternoon of 19th September to book a table for dinner that evening for my wife's birthday. We wanted an early dinner as our niece and nephew who are children were dining with us and as it was a school night, we needed an early meal. I was informed that 6.30pm was unavailable and the earliest which we could book was 7.30pm. We agreed to this and booked for 7.30 hoping that when we arrived early we could maybe eat a little sooner. Our party of seven arrived at 6.15 and were never asked our name or whether we had booked a table, just asked us to get a drink at the bar, which we did. At 7pm we still hadn't been asked who we were or if indeed we had booked a table or even given menus. We noticed on arrival a table for 7 people ready in front of us which indeed did turn out to be ours and was there ready from our arrival. At approx 7.30 we went and found menus from a table and started to look at them. Ten minutes later and still not spoken to anybody we asked if we could be seated at our table. We were given a nod the the table. After another lifetime we were asked what we wanted, to which we replied we would like drinks and wine, which we ordered. The drinks appeared but the wine never materialised. Once again a trip to the bar to find out where the wine was as we could never find a member of staff other than the barmaid. Eventually the wine appeared by a very young girl who opened it and glugged it into 2 glasses. We asked if did she know one is supposed to try the wine first and she said she didn't !
We then ordered our food asking if one of the children could have her meal at the same time as our starters to which we were told mo problem. When the starters arrived one came which we didn't order and they said they would sort it, no apologies. Two members of my party ordered prawn cocktails and if 4 prawns, a lump of lettuce and a dollop of thousand island thrown into a glass constitutes prawn cocktail, no one would ever order one again. They got two pieces of dried bread and no butter. When theclast starter came which was wrong it was supposed to be goats cheese and came in a whole wrapper, nothing done to it and a loaf of bread on the side, it was unedible When the starters were cleared we asked where the child's meal was? No explanations were given and it came with our mains. Two fillet steaks were ordered but they only had one left. I asked for the steak well done and when it came it was nearly blue. I pulled a member of staff and they whisked it away for re-cooking. My wife's rack of lamb was fatty, limp and completely unable to eat. It was left intact and when the dishes were cleared no one asked if everything was ok and why she left her whole meal. I am still at this stage waiting for the steak to come back. Our little niece ordered apple and blackberry crumble and it came 5 minutes later at about 1000 degrees in temperature and minus the blackberry. On her second bite she is chewing what I an only describe as a large piece of very sharp plastic. We called the waitress over and she once again whisked the plate away. A man came to say that the £5 for the crumble would be refunded. We hadn't realised at this stage that one of our guests had already paid for the meal. We asked where the steak was and he said it was coming. It never did! We were never once asked if we would like a sweet, coffee or after dinner drink and no apologies were uttered to us at all. Please please stay well clear of the Fox, although the building is very charming this is the only good thing going for it.

Save Your Money
We went to The Fox for sunday dinner and frankly it was awful. Fabulous position and setting, but disinterested staff and poor quality food. When we arrived staff were reluctant to engage or show us to a table. We eventually asked if we could have a table and subsequently had to ask if we could order food. Tables were sticky and seats stained. Staff avoided eye contact and seemed to dash into the kitchen when you looked in their direction. Cutlery was dirty, and we had to ask for sauces, which took ages to arrive, by which time the food was even colder than when it was served. We ordered the mixed meat platter from the fixed price menu and were told there was no turkey left, the pork was dry and the beef serving for two was only sufficient for one. Portion sizes for my sons meals were small - one had gammon and the other fish, and too few chips seemed a mean economy to make. When it came to ordering sweets only one of three was still available and no alternatives were offered, so we didn't bother. There were no apologies and staff seemed accepting of the fact that things were not good. Management oversight of any kind was absent. 45mins later it was all over and we left £60 poorer and an awful lot wiser. Save your money and don't go

I Had Eaten Here Some While Ago At A Family Annive
I had eaten here some while ago at a family anniversary and it was generally very pleasant.
The pub is nicely decorated and the staff are polite
On a recent visit however, I was extremely dissapointed with the quality of the food.
We ate outside for lunch.
My children had the 'fishfinger roll' which came with crisps for around £6 or £1.75 more for chips. Their food seemed ok if a little pricey for what they had so I ordered the coronation chicken salad at £7.95 which was appauling. It consisted of three romane lettuce leaves with a huge dollop of what ressembled anaemic cat sick in the middle, sprinkled with unberarable chewy bits of dried apricot. But worse were the fridge cold blanched broccoli trees plonked around the dish. I called the waitress over and explained that I found the whole dish deeply unappetising. She asked if their was anything wrond with it other than the fact I didn't like it and I explained that it was just 'bizarre and unpleasant.'
No refund was offered at this time, but when I went to settled my bill and the bartender asked if everything had been ok, I reiterated my comments regarding my meal and she refunded me.
My sister, husband and neice ate at the same time as me and were equally underwhelmed by their meals. My niece, who had had the sole goujons was violently sick later in the day!

Started With Dirty Cutlery, Then Left Almost A Ful
Started with dirty cutlery, then left almost a full carafe of quite frankly horrendous house white wine, left the veg side dish, then we sent back a main course that was so dry even the Kalahari desert would refuse it. What upset us most was that at no time did any of the waiting staff apologise or query why we ordered a new bottle of wine within a few minutes of ordering the first or returned the meal
There were a couple of good points about the meal but they were lost amongst all the poor or frankly average parts and after parting with almost £80 it left a lot more than a bad taste in the mouth!

It Was Our First Visit To The Fox Pub. We Thought
It was our first visit to the Fox Pub. We thought the decor/style of the venue was very nice however the quality of the food and it's presentation was terrible. We were fogotten about initally and were left waiting in the bar area for a table to eat for some time. The food order was taken quickly and when the starters came 1 of them (brie) was just awful. Hardly any sauce and dry rocket leaves on the side! The main course was next, over cooked Gammon with wedges that were cooked so many times the fat was dripping out of them and then more dry rocket leaves on the side! The desert was to follow....Eton Mess, i believe this is meant to be served with meringue...we found 1 piece with the rest being cream and a few strawberries. Will i go back to the Fox....NOT TO EAT!

We Greatly Enjoyed Our Visit To The Fox Yesterday
We greatly enjoyed our visit to the fox yesterday for Sunday dinner. We were welcomed warmly by the manager (and the rest of the staff) and were amazed by the roasts! We had a massive platter piled high with 3 different types of meat and all the trimmings, including massive Yorkshire puddings! And it was cooked to perfection, the beef was beautifully pink and the pork and turkey melted in the mouth. You could tell that the chefs put a lot of pride into their work. All the staff were very friendly and attentive, we clearly had a particular waitress for the evening but that didn't stop other members of staff from checking if we were having a good time! People have put in previous reviews that the staff are too young-what total rubbish! They all do a fantastic job and it's clear that they enjoy it. We haven't been on a Sunday before, tending to enjoy the fish supper club on fridays, but after out experience yesterday we will be coming again-definately for the Yorkshire puds! Thanks alot!

I've Ended Up Eating Here Three Times In The Past
I've ended up eating here three times in the past few months because it's local and the area has a dearth of pubs that do food. However, The Fox is not a place where I would choose to eat myself; my meals there have been social events.
The food is slightly over-priced, and the quality ranges from mediocre to dreadful. The bar is very over-priced... think London prices. The service is very, very slow; The Fox seems to employ only school-age children, and although these kids are usually well-meaning, they're pretty bad at their jobs. Lack of training I suppose, but their inability to look a customer in the eye at any point does not inspire confidence.
Horror stories from the Fox include boiled leek (!) served as a side vegetable, chips from a fryer so dirty that the lumps of carbonised crud were bigger than the chips themselves, a chewy steak that should have been medium but arrived almost blue, a starter of scallops consisting of precisely four scallops (and not big ones, either)... the list goes on. It's rotten. Do not take anyone you'd like to impress to The Fox.
Oh, and, the ale is way too cold.

My Partner And I Regulary Eat At The Fox And We Ar
My partner and I regulary eat at the fox and we are both confident in our choice of venue, something that unfortunately is becoming rarer. The food is of a high standard using fresh ingredients, and the one time we have had a problem, the waiter was quick to correct and send me the chefs apologies. The staff always ensure we have an enjoyable evening and make an effort to chat to us about our week. Whilst some of the food could be seen as expensive, it is fabulous and the fox does offer amazing things such as the champagne on Fridays. More importantly, with the fox you know what you are going to get. That are open all day and the quality of food and service
is reliable. In a time when we are watching the pennies, going out for a meal we know we will both enjoy is very important. I look forward to my next visit.
