I spoke to a guy who had sent me an email saying I had been 'pre-approved'. I called him and asked for some prices but was very clear I didn't want him to carry out a credit check as I was still getting quotes for a vehicle.
He called me back and said I had been refused credit for a truck but he could probably get away with getting me approved on a 4x4. So essentially, he pushed through a credit check and it was refused, leaving a negative mark on my credit rating.
His excuse was that I had ticked a box online agreeing to a credit check, which is true, however when he asked me for my bank details to perform a credit check, I refused to give them and made it clear that I didnt want any checks carried out before they gave me a price. I am now going to find it even more difficult to obtain credit thanks to MSG cars. I won't be going back to them in the future.

The details we had for you were a result of you completing our online 'Application Form' which you provided us with details that includes personal details, employment details and your current and previous addresses. Prior to hitting the submit button we ask 'Applicants' to enter their initials to confirm they are also aware of our terms and conditions. A link is also provided alongside this final box for a quick click to read. We are not hear to waste any of our customers time let alone our own and so upon submit we send your 'Application' to one of the major funders we use that also offers some of the best rates in the market depending on the customers profile. So unfortunately you have possibly got the wrong end of the stick as it isn't the case we sent an application through without you telling us to as it was done the instant you hit apply now.
Please also having one search on your file doesn't cause you to get declined. Having unpaid finance is what cause the problem.
Without your real name i cannot find you on our system but in essence it sounds like we Approved your finance yet this wasn't sufficient for you? Please call in if you would like to discuss any further we will always look to resolve any issues that possible customers might have.
