I booked online and read all the fine print. Had my own insurance and everything. I get there and sure enough there’s a long lineup of people being screwed over and vacations being ruined. Claimed my insurance wasn’t valid and had to get there’s despite no indication of any of this online. I refused and even talked to their shell company CC Billar. Would not even consider a refund and simply claimed buyer beware. This company is an absolute bunch of sham artists and the better business bureau in Iceland should look into them for all the trouble they caused and people they’ve swindled. As I was there and watched what was happening to people it seemed more like an organized crime racket. Companies and people like this who take money from decent people just looking to have a good time on vacation should be arrested or at the very least shut down. Iceland is a great place to visit but places like this should not exist and be shut down entirely. A black eye on an otherwise great country and place to vacation and see the world.

“AWFUL.. DO NOT BOOK VIA THIS COMPANY”

BEAWARE--Please DO NOT BOOK via this company. We had paid £1200 for 7 days for 4x4 TOYOTA RAV. We were given an old Mitsubishi which wasn't driving properly windows wont shut, and car made noise on driving. HIGHLY unsafe.... We complained and they changed the car next day gave us new Mistubishi. On return of the car they pointed some less then1mm scuff mark on window and front bonate. Which may have occurred from a gravel hitting the car. That mark was barely visible. They charged us Euro 5000 from us to fix it. SHOCKING.... It is a sham from fair car- Iceland car rental. PLEASE DO NOT RENT ANY CARS FROM THIS COMPANY. The guy who served us was also extremely rude, aggressive and mannerless with poor communication skills and unreasonable.

“Very bad”

None of the agreements were made and the price at destination (Kalamata in Greece) was much cheaper. One of the agreements was that they were at the airport at moment of landing. They were not there and they were not reachable. Another agreement was that we hire the car till Sunday. But the rental company doesn't work on Sunday, so we needed to give the car back on Saturday 17:30. Also on this Saturday they were not reachable. Nobody wanted us to refund the 2 days that we couldn't use the car.

“Worst rent a car ever”

First impression of Iceland. Worst rent a car ever, they take pictures of the car without wanting you to be there. The cars are very old and with problems. If you don't have a credit card and you don't have more than €2900 in the credit carings, they won't let you rent a car. They charge around €40 a day for changing drivers name and charge for car washing. The insurance does include anything. It is convenient to always be present and, if possible, take pictures of the car when the staff is doing it, as there are always surprises

One of the worst experience ever One of the worst experience ever. OVERCHARGED, some hidden fees that the guy at the front desk was not able to explain properly, did some simple math and told us 3 prices within 5 minutes. Beside the GOLD INSURANCE that I had booked online I had to take 2 more INSURANCES. As well the car was very old and in bad conditions, the speedometer was like a rainbow, all the failure lights were on. The doors were closing from the 2,3 times and you had to slam them like a rock. The heaters were not working in the back of the car, only the front ones. We booked a 9 person car.The guy from the front desk apologized for the inconveniences and offered us a GPS and 2nd driver for free and in the end we had to pay for it. DON'T BE CHEAP, BOOK SOMETHING MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WITH A GOOD REPUTATION. We're still waiting for the deposit to be refunded, they said it should arrive between 4-24 business days. As well to all of our questions the answer was YOU HAVE TO CALL THE BACKOFFICE, I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE. I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO ANY INFORMATION! NEVER EVER AGAIN ! THE WORST !!!

“STAY AWAY - BAD SERVICE”

WORST experience ever. They charge for late pick up (18:00 is late in iceland) They ask incredible amount of money for deposit The car was a wreck not worth the price. They don't give the deposit back immediately, nor after 2 weeks! POLICE should close this SCANDAL! Stay away, give more money to a serious company, this is certainly NOT!!!!!!] A bunch of awful bastXXrds. YOu don't expect this from icelanders.

“Nothing ‘fair’ about Fair car”

I visited Iceland earlier this year and pre booked car hire from fair car. The price was slightly cheaper than other hire car firms although now I can explain why... We were met at the airport eventually by the car hire rep. We had to ring them after after an hour of waiting. Noticeably most of the people on our flight were met by their car hire reps in the airport within minutes. We were then taken to the car hire building where we had to wait in a small room that had mouldy ceiling lining paper that was being treated with some sort of anti mould paint. The smell was particularly strong and nauseating. This is a perfect scenario to encourage customers to get out quickly which means they get you to sign up without going through the small print with a fine tooth Comb and that’s how they get you. The car they gave us was a citigo. We asked for a Hyundai. The inspection prior to taking the car highlighted a number of small dents and scratches that were noted on their form and photographed by us. On driving the car the windscreen wipers smeared water around the window making driving dangerous. The drive belt screamed below 50kph and it was only a matter of time before it would’ve snapped. I reported thus to them but doubt it was adjusted or replaced before the next customer. On return of the vehicle there was no vehicle check. We were quickly taken back to the mouldy room again with the strong smell of paint (5 days later) . When I raised the vehicle check with the rep we were quickly harried into getting into a car to be returned to the airport. Some weeks after returning home I received an email from fair car stating that I had damaged the car and the cost incurred was over €1200. It was alleged that a small golf ball sized dent was found on the boot door and I was accused of causing the damage. The charge for damage and the cost of repair was alleged to be just over $1200. They produced no evidence to show that the repair was actually carried out and judging by the amount of dents and scratches already on the car, I doubt repairs were ever done. After I disputed this cost they took the money from my credit card. I still do not believe I caused the damage. I do not believe that repair to a small dent costs €1200 and I don’t believe that it was actually repaired. However, because it is the customers responsibility to check the vehicle on the return of the vehicle, we have been forced to pay it. (That was in the small print) although every other hire car firm I’ve used has carried this out as a matter of course. This is just another poor review to add to the collection of poor reviews they already have. I have hired many cars all over the world and I have never had such a poor experience. DO NOT USE THIS CAR HIRE FIRM. Better off paying a bit extra to go with one of the big car hire firms.

“We have booked a car with Faircar Rentals to drive the...”

We have booked a car with Faircar Rentals to drive the South Coast last January and, unfortunately, we did not checked in advance the lousy reviews. They forgot picking us up from the airport and managed to charge us undue 80 euros because the name in the voucher and the main driver was not the same. The car and winter tires were not in good conditions. Five weeks after we have returned home, they managed to charge extra 1400 euros using the credit card, claiming car damages which are not possible to see in their photos and our own. They have been desonest for years!!! Do not book with Faircar!

“unauthorized credit card charges”

unfortunately, i read the many poor reviews of fair car iceland on trustpilot.com and trip advisor after i had booked the car. fair car rental doesn't have a review system from past customers on their own website anymore because of all of the negative reviews they were receiving. i have been renting cars internationally for the past 20 years and i knew to do the check in and check out inspections in person with a fair representative, receive copies of the inspection paperwork and take photos of the car before and after of any issues. we purchased the maximum amount of insurance that fair car offered in their office when we picked up the car ('sand & ash' as well as as their 'zero excess damage waiver' which reduced our responsibility to zero according to the rental contract). we received a small rock chip on the passenger side windscreen with no spreading. fair car insisted the whole windscreen needed to replaced. as we had purchased fair car's 'zero excess damage waiver' i was not worried, we filled out the claim paperwork with the insurance company who agreed to pay fair car directly once they submitted the invoices for the new windscreen with administration costs. this insurance company as well as myself requested fair car via email to submit this information in order for the payment to be made on a daily basis. fair car refused to send this required information and over a month after the rental was done, and they charged my credit card $1200 u.s dollars for a new windscreen. the insurance company will not reimburse me for any damages until this information is sent by fair car rental. it would take less than a minute for fair car to send this information but they simply aren't returning emails. if you are going to rent a car in iceland please read other online reviews on trust pilot and trip advisor as it seems their m.o is to charge their customers credit cards months after the car is returned. save yourself a lot of headache and wasted time on the phone and rent with another company in iceland.
