Booked car hire in April from Alicante airport. fuel policy full to full, I returned car full and I have been waiting for my fuel refund of 98 euros ever since. I have sent email after email. Dickmanns have acknowledge that they owe me the money and asked for my bank details, which I have sent to them numerous times. Still they have not sent me my refund. They have also stopped replying to my emails. Do not book with this company!!!!!!!!!!! customer service is non existent.

Hi I have been hiring cars every summer for the last 15 years with different companies and never had a problem until now. We hired a car with dickmanns and returned it a month a go . The policy for the petrol was full - full. They haven't given us the money back yet(98 euros), I have sent them 5 emails , at the beginning they came with excuses, now they don't even bother replying.

When shown contract which stated Insurance+FULL I questioned this as I had my own insurance but was told FULL related to full tank of fuel which should be returned full for refund. Normal procedure but reinforced that I did not require insurance. Paid for fuel from credit card. No other charges. After 3 weeks no refund so questioned why and was told I bought insurance. Questioned why no money taken for fuel as it usual and customer service in email said "Fuel has not been charged to spare you exchange rates and bank fees on charge/refunding (aprox £20) This is a lie. The fuel was not charged as it would have shown the deception. Awful service and unreliable customer service.

We hired a car from Dickmann's in end of July 2017, and returned the car according to contract, in original condition and in time. Car and Service itself was quite OK. And fuel refunding was also done soon after returning the car to their office. So far so good... But the 950€ security deposit - is not refunded. Not even after numerous requests over email from the Customer Support. No explanations, no real answers from their side. I would very strongly advise Not to hire from this company due to thi sunreliable behavior. Many people have been treated in this same way. Some are getting the deposit back after time, but it seems that many people have lost their money to this company. So why to support such company - there are many other descent companies also hiring cars.

I Did not get the refunding from Dickmanns!
You stopped responding in November to my requests, so I had to ask help from my Credit card Company, who did refunding to me.
Hopefully this is not the way you deal these things -letting the credit card company to pay for you cannot be long lasting business model...

We had the same problem 2 years ago. I eventually got in touch with my bank and the issue got sorted. I had used Dickmans several times up to that happening. Have not used them since.

Hired car 3 July 2017, still not got deposit back despite 4 phone calls, told 'the accounts department t is processing refund'. Picked up a second hire car on 24 July 2017 and paid second deposit - second car returned 8 August 2017. Dickmans now holding 1900 euros of our money. Scandalous - we were told on both returns that the cars were in excellent condition.

Same here and afther many complaints they asked for my bank details to transfer the deposit as I feel this is another way for them to take more money and I don't trust them I said no I am leaving it in the hands of my c/c provider to charge back.I will be over there for a week in October I intend to hand out flyers to potential customers at there gate urging them not to rent there.

We hired a car at Alicante Airport on 28 April 2017 and returned it unblemished on 25 May 2017. We had our own CDW insurance so paid €950 deposit. They agreed to return this by end of June. Despite emails to them and the portal Do You Spain no response and no return of the deposit. I referred the issue to visa disputes at our UK bank on 3 August and finally on 22 August my deposit was returned. I am now aware of many similar instances and I wish that I had known before

As with so many others here, I found the representative very aggressive in trying to bully us into taking their ridiculously expensive insurance, sneering at the insurance we had purchased through 'Do You Spain' at the point of booking. I dug my heels in and said they could take the 950euro deposit. We have been home for 6 weeks now and no deposit refund, despite the very rude manager signing off that there was no damage to the car on return. I have emailed, but this has been ignored. These people are clearly utterly corrupt! I desperately wish I'd checked reviews before booking!

To start with I was given a much larger car than I had booked which used a lot more fuel. They took nearly £1000 off my credit card as I didn't take out their insurance (not mentioned on their website). It is meant to be refunded when you return the car undamaged. I returned the car undamaged and was signed off by them as so. However more than a month later I still haven't been refunded my money. I have phoned them only to be met by a terrible attitude and lack of interest in sorting out the issue. I am now contacting the credit card company for their help. Please avoid this terrible company at all costs.

Refund wasn't returned 30 working days after the return of the vehicle. In fact it was never returned !! Luckily I paid with my credit card so contacted the credit card company who reviewed my case and then refunded me in full. They are now gunning for the Dickmans Hire company. DO NOT USE On the 4 June 2017 we rented a car from Dickmanns rent a car, Alicante Spain. We paid a total of 1066.00 euros by Credit Card, which included a returnable deposit of 950 euros. On returning the car on the fifth of June they refunded 82 euros for petrol and we were told our deposit would be refunded in 28 days. This was 2 Months ago, we have telephoned them 4 times & also e-mailed them only to be told that it is with the accounts dept. Since this happened we have read various reviews about this company & it appears that this is a regular occurrence. If they do this to 10 customers a day then they have quite a sum of other peoples cash in the bank.

STAY AWAY!! If you carry your own insurance and decide not to hire the insurance offered by Dickmanns reps try to fear-sell you their insurance by stating that yours is probably no good. They go in detail on how recovering your money will be a nightmare and in many cases impossible. They also note that cars always come back with costly damage even for the tiniest scratches (normal wear and tear is considered a damage by Dickmanns). When you return your car they will go out of their way to find the finest scratches (even those that are simply not noticeable when a car polish / cleaner is used) and report as actual damage to the car. They calculate the damage and charge your credit card directly even without your signature or authorization. In my case they gave me a dirty car and the damage they claim (rather normal wear and tear of any vehicle) was probably already there and simply could not be appreciated due to the dirt. This is a company I would never recommend but rather warn about. I will never use again.

. I can resassure you that the cars retun with damages, mostly 75% of the times we hire them . Magically, no one ever is responsable for the damages, seems that the car decided to get damaged by itself. No one likes to confront realities and we just need to follow company process checking the returns properly. As most of us, rent companies, we dealing with this issues daily and customers will always coplaint about it. but the truth is that cars arrive with damages and need to be properly addressed.

We got a car with many scratches and dents. Not all scratches were marked on the document. So we had to ask the inspection guy to mark the extra scratches as well. You get paranoid not to oversee a scratch, which we apparently did. When we returned the car the inspection guy was inspecting our car with a magnifying glass (in amanner of speaking). And YES!! They found an extra miniscule scratch on the front window which was not marked before. "We have to replace the window for that". What? Replacing the window? For that? "Yes" I am sure that I did not cause the damage on the window, but that is difficult to prove. I clearly overlooked it when getting the car. The problem is that their cars are full with scratches and that is very difficult to be marked on a tiny inspection form. In my opinion, it is their business model. Making money with finding tiny scratches on a car already full of scratches. Besides that it's the many times mentioned deposit which they not block and release on return, but really debit you card with. In my case I received an extra invoice of around € 500,00 for the windshield. This amount is not deducted from the deposit, but debited on top of that. In total: € 220,00 rental € 98,00 petrol € 40,00 administration fee € 950,00 deposit € 500,00 windshield Total hiring period: 7 days Thank you Dickmanns!! You never see me again and I strongly advise everyone to do same!! Be warned!!

Have used them a few times but last time they charged me for insurance I didn't ask for and was not offered. The assistant deliberately sidetracked me with a confused explanation of fuel charges leading me to believe I would be refunded some money from what seemed a quite expensive overall cost. It turns out that I was charged 98 euros for insurance I didn't need as I had my own policy which covered me totally (I'd had to make a claim the year before so the policy was fine and I would NEVER take Dickmanns extra insurance). I was duped and signed the form without realising they'd added the insurance and didn't know until I asked for a fuel refund when customer services pointed out the amount I'd paid was not for fuel that would be reimbursed but insurance. They didn't care that it had happened and in fact it seems as though they are all culpable for this practice - as "in cahoots" - stay away cos you'll probably get stung at some point if you don't.

I am amazed how bad you are and what a bunch of nonsensical excuses you have given to the reviews. Instead of spending time finding excuses to write down, fix your business model.
I had mad a reservation to rent a car in Madrid and I cancelled it. By pure coincidence, I saw these reviews. I am now going to go to Enterprise, or Hertz or Avis, who I regularly use in Madrid. I feel sorry for your poor customers. I cannot believe KLM has you guys as a rental car option. Thank for the reviews. It save me a lot of aggravation.

To be clear I wasn't "confused" - I was misled. The information I was given by your assistant WAS confused so I specifically asked the assistant if I'd have money refunded if I brought the car back full of fuel and he said, "YES". I did contact customer services for a refund after a month had passed and of course they explained I'd signed and agreed to a contract for something which was not verbally explained to me correctly, including extra insurance which was definitely NOT mentioned. I have accepted my responsibility for not fully checking all the documentation but the paper work to take away I was given had NO BREAKDOWN of costs which would have made me realise the facts. I trusted your assistant and what he said to me verbally which was an error but in many years of car hire nothing like this has happened before and I had no reason to be concerned. However, there was a DEFINITE effort by your assistant to rush the process through and include the extra insurance which we both know is very high and a source of extra profit to your company. I've rented a few cars from yourselves with no problems but this incident was just plain wrong.

After reading through some of the reviews about Dickmanns car hire I can confirm that these things do happen. I have been hiring from Dickmanns from Alicante airport 3 or 4 times per year for many years and found them to be no trouble at all. In fact as they are so efficient at picking up from the airport and then getting me on the road I have stuck with them. Over the past year I have noticed that things have changed and they would not return my 950euro deposit unless I asked for it back. I last hired a car from Dickmanns in January 2017 and, unfortunately, the agent that dealt with me was impatient and aggressive. As I didn’t buy their daily insurance he gave me a car with many scratches and marks, the remote locking did not work and the key was held together with sticky tape. The agent was impatient and clearly did not like me inspecting the car for chips etc. As there were so many chips it would have been very difficult for me to point them all out to the agent. Upon my return, the agent must have been waiting for me as he went straight to some marks that he knew I hadn’t indicated on the form. I pointed out that they were probably sustained as a normal part of driving but he refused to accept that saying that it was my entire fault. Stones etc. thrown up by another car cannot be my fault. Five weeks after returning home I still hadn’t had my deposit refunded, as usual, so I had to ask Dickmanns for it to be returned. The response from them was that 350euro would be returned - sometime. When I pointed out that my deposit was 950euro only then did Dickmanns say that they were confiscating 600euro for stone chip damage to the car. The lesson to be learned here is that if you really have to hire from Dickmanns then you must take out their insurance otherwise you will be charged for stone chip damage caused by other cars. With a 600euro charge per hire it won’t take Dickmanns long before the car has been paid for, which suggests that they are running a capitation scheme to pay the capital cost of the car. It’s a win-win for them and a lose-lose for their customers. As a footnote to this review, Dickmanns will not tell me what their policy is on fair wear and tear. I give them two stars for efficient collection from the airport and no stars for customer service.

DICKMANNS are the only car hire company that I have dealt with that do not block a deposit of your credit card BUT TAKE THE FULL DEPOSIT OF YOUR CARD. I have recently returned from a 3 month holiday in Murcia. I unfortunately used dickmanns 3 times. They insisted that I pay the full 1000 euro deposit each time. After many conversations with them when I pointed out frequently that they had 2000 euros of my money already . They eventually relented and did not take a deposit for the 3 rd car hire time. I returned all the cars in the same condition apart from road dirt. So you would think no problem.WRONG . It has taken over 2 months to get most of my deposits back ,and only after I threatened legal action. Do you do Spain.became involved and helped getting most of my money back . But because they deducted the money from my credit card . Rather than put a block on like other companies do. The bank hit me with conversion charges. In the end I was robbed of about 100 euros. Plus all the stress. WARNING DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

The same story repeated time and time again regarding Dickmanns charging for insignificant marks on cars many miles on the clock and so many existing 'dings' that it is almost impossible to note them all on collection. My story is below Picked up car from Dickmanns 26,000 miles on the clock, several ‘dings’, scratches and splits in plastic documented on pick up. €1,077.42 deposit left Car returned. ‘new’ marks reported by operative who went round the car twice befor he could find anything. I disputed this as they were barely visible and would polish out. invoice arrived for €200 charge for damage ( which I am claiming on my annual insurance) Beginning of February contacted our car hire excess insurers to discuss whether I should pursue this as I disagreed with the damage caused. They advised me to claim the money back On the same day I spoke to Santander to ask if the payment could be stopped. The payment had already gone through and I was advised to try to contact Dickmanns directly by phone and e mail to resolve the issue. I had already tried to phone and not got through. I eventually spoke to Dickmanns who said that the charge was non-negotiable and that I would have refund of the rest of the deposit in 28 working days. As they are open 7 days a week and the refund was not on the next credit card bill, I telephoned again to be told that ‘working days’ is 5 days a week. This would mean that the refund of €750 should have been paid by 10th of March. I e mailed and telephoned Dickmans again who said they would chase it up but the member of staff more or less told me that because I hired the car at a low price and did not take out their own excess insurance (we have our own annual excess policy) that they WOULD find some damage to charge me for. He likened it to purchasing a cheap flight from Ryanair where the company makes their money in other ways like charging a lot for a check in bag. I e mailed them again, asking for an explanation of non payment Next credit card payment received with no refund I telephoned Dickmanns, explained the situation to a female member of staff who tried to palm me off by saying that the customer services department was dealing with it. When I stated that I wanted resolved now, she said that she was just the receptionist and would put me through to ‘accounts’ this rang out till I was cut off. I rang back several times and the phone was answered and put down immediately. On one occasion I spoke to the same lady and was again transferred to a number where no one answered. On several occasions following this I phoned back but was automatically disconnected. I then called from my mobile phone so that they didn’t recognize the number and the call was answered immediately by the same lady, who when she realized who she was talking to said that she couldn’t hear me and asked me to call back. When I call back the call was immediately disconnected. At this point I contacted my credit card company and contacted Doyouspain who we had booked through. The money was refunded within 48 hours. I will never use Dickmanns again

No problem with the car. I paid a 950 euro deposit on the hire in late December 2016 at the Alicante airport branch and returned the car on the 3rd January. Like many others here, I was told the deposit would be refunded within 28 days. Here I am 3 months later without my deposit. I have been assured many times by email that this deposit return is being processed. Having returned to Alicante, not hiring a car from Dickmanns this time, I again visited the car hire office only to be told that they were powerless to help, but suggested I tried an alternate email address, which supposedly goes directly to their accounts department, and may be of use to any others who are suffering. I have previously used Dickmanns many times over many years without issue. Currently I would not recommend anyone uses them based on my experience and the experience of others here. If I had read the reviews on here before I last used them, I would probably have chosen a different firm, as I have now, and will in the future.

I want to tell everyone to keep well clear of them. The other reviews I have seen on trip adviser back up my own experience of this car hire firm. They offer heap hire rates but sting customers on the back end by stopping money from your credit card when you are long gone.

I hire cars a lot in Spain but here is one company I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I returned a car after a months hire on 30th November 2016 at Alicante Airport and they still have not returned to me my deposit. It is bad enough they keep your deposit for 28 WORKING DAYS after the car is returned but to still not have my deposit back as of 3rd February 2017 is beyond a joke. After 6 phone calls to their head office and still no satisfactory result. An email to their customer services complaining and I get a reply saying " We have informed accounting of this pending deposit, as did the colleagues from reception We hope that this refund is done asap" I am not hoping this will be resolved "asap" I want it resolved now!!!! I have read other peoples reviews of having the same problem. Something is vastly wrong here. I have just phoned Dickmanns again this morning. All they say is we will put you through to accounts but every time after holding on for a few minutes the line goes dead. I have never been able to speak with accounts to this date.
