“appaling customer service/ use at your own risk”

I booked a car hire directly through… I booked a car hire directly through Delpaso, unfortunately I didn't receive a confirmation email for my booking, but I email them pre flying out to Malaga and they assured me that it shouldn't be a problem. When we arrived in their office, he behaved like real gangster, asking to see my Boarding pass!!! and so on, then he switched to telling me that the email deal is void, and I have to take fresh one or he'd show me the door(what a cheek). I was having none of it and just walked off. My promise is NEVER AGAIN. And please people, dont fall for their cheap prices. Plus No one will take your complaints ...... It has to be real bad

“Prepare to be deceived”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PMKehoe on 05/05/2023

Short version. Booked via Doyouspain in Dec 22 - Full/Full & off airport Arrived at Malaga Airport and was driven to depot. Fine. Arrived and started the process to find had to pay either 146e or 187e to take the car. Reason given? I did not have an International Licence (IDP), so my booking was not valid, it was only made in Dec 22. No changes in EU status since then and my licence is valid in Spain. My own Excess cover could therefor not cover me. They argued, were rude, aggressive and said if I don't pay, they will take me back to the airport. Lesson learnt, if you book via Doyouspain, make sure you read every bit of small print. Don't assume that they operate like most of the other decent hire companies on the DYS platform.

“Utterly appaling customer service”

written by TrippFitzpatrick on 01/03/2023

Seriously appaling customer service I am utterly disappointed in this car hire company in Malaga. I made a reservation for car, but when we arrived at delpaso office, we were told our reservation isn't on their system. to get a car from them we'd have to fork out substantial amount of money plus deposit, shouldn't we like the deal then the door is wide open. Very rude of you Delpaso, specially the agent.  Date of experience: February 23, 2023

“Booked through Do You Spain to get a car for 10 days....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ThaddeusMcDowell134 on 23/07/2021

Booked through Do You Spain to get a car for 10 days. Our flight was delayed coming over so I called the Delpaso office to tell them as a courtesy. Most legitimate companies would be fine with this especially as we would still be picking the car up in office hours, but the their rude customer service agent told me that if we didn’t show up within 2 hours of our booking they would cancel our booking as a no show. I would also need to speak with Do You Spain to re-book, of course Do You Spain didn’t pick up the phone. When we arrived at the airport, we got on their shuttle bus and our names were on the list, so assumed that they hadn’t actually canceled the booking, however, this was all part of it. Once we got to the counter they did tell us they had cancelled our booking as a no show despite being right in front of them and that we would need to re-book a car. They charged me €220 in addition to the €144 with the booking with Do You Spain. I found out later that the additional €220 was for insurance and they had actually used the Do You Spain booking and added their own extortionate insurance to the invoice which was more than the car hire itself. I told them that I had my own insurance but they didn’t care. At no time did they say that they would use the original booking and charge me for insurance. Given most clientele they have would speak English they use Spanish in their invoices making it harder to understand but easier for them. The car we were due to get was larger and suitable for 5, but what we got was sub standard and under powered for a family of 5 which was at times dangerous on the roads when trying to keep up with traffic. I would not use these people if my life depended on it and would urge people to think twice about using Do You Spain and also Delpaso!

Review of Del Paso Car hire 1 star: Bad 2 days ago Hi I didn't need to write a review I have just needed to cut and paste a previous review as ecaxtly the same happened when I told them I wouldn't ever hire from them again I was arrogantly told I would be blocked from booking with them anyway The car was covered with scratches dints etc!!!! Disgraceful company. Rude staff and ridiculous services. I was charged 363 euros for a scrape which I did NOT do. When collecting the car they tell you to document the damage and keep the photographs as evidence. When I returned the car, firstly I was told that the photos weren't taken on the premises (which they were, and it was blatantly clear they were). Secondly I was accused of damaging the car on the front bumper which I had missed in the photos, but was clearly part of the same scrape which I had documented.. It makes you wonder what exactly you are paying for - they are clearly not fixing any damage on their cars...! 363 Euros.. for a scratch that I didn't do... that they won't repair. Absolute joke. DO NOT HIRE FROM THESE PIRATES. These reviews speak for themselves. This company is AWFUL

“Do not use ”

written by Christopergee on 26/09/2018

Wish I had seen these reviews prior to my trip! Ive been to Spain numerous times, renting cars from the airport. This was my first time using Del paso, lured by the cheap price !! The car that I hired on the Internet in the uk was not the car I got in Spain, a different class, and nowhere near as good. Since I have returned to the uk , del paso have taken money from my account, refused to let me speak with a manager, and been very rude and dismissive. I agreed to pay €150 for insurance, which I found out they charged me nearly €300 for 12 days, without my knowledge. This has ended up being the most expensive car hire I’ve ever had in Spain. DO NOT USE

“Rip-Off Operator!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nyla467 on 12/07/2018

I previously posted a review on this company which related to them ripping customers off by alleging that there is underside damage when vehicles are returned, if the customer has not taken out there excess damage waiver insurance. I was the victim of such a sham, details of which I presented to my credit card company who investigated and cancelled the charge made by Delpaso. Whilst at their office I witnessed two other customers being dealt with in the same way. I have subsequently learned (from a driver who previously worked for them) that they actually pay a bonus to their employees if they inform the customer that underside damage has been caused while they have had the vehicle and successfully recover an amount (usually €600 or more) out of the customer's damage deposit. Trust me, this is happening on a regular basis so, unless you are accepting their collision damage waiver insurance, stay well clear. They are rip-off merchants.

Do you have proof from the ex employee? If yes then it is a case for the Police. Either way Thanks for the info and will not be renting from them.

written by Scammedbydelpaso on 18/03/2018

This company offered me to pay €84 to waive an €1,200 excess. I declined as I had insurance through a different company. They then said they needed a security then for €1,200, and I handed over my card, which all of a sudden "did not work". I was then forced to pay the €84 they originally asked, payment for which took place on the SAME card they just told me did not work! Having spoken to my bank, they told me they received no such request for a security, and confirmed my credit limit was well in excess of the security needed.

written by Frank222 on 11/10/2017

The staff is very rude, disinterested, bad attitude with the clients. They don't check the car damages before rent the car, it's the client that have to take photos of the damages when rent the car and if have some damages at the return to shows photos. But if you don't have a photo phone, or you lost your photos, then you have to pay the damages that already existed when you rent the car. I read about many other clients that after weeks of the return, they have stolen money on the credit card for damages not existent. I called 2 days the assistance number about 50 times, and replied just once and said that don't have time to give me information by the phone, if I need information to go to the office! I wanted to extend a contract but they didn't want to do it and asked to make an other contract with a new deposit. So I asked to return me the first deposit on my card so that I can make a new deposit. They refused, and said that have to wait 5 days for them to unlock the pre authorization on my card. So I couldn't make a new deposit and they asked to buy they insurance of 20 euro per day if I want to extend the contract! Don't recommend it at all.

“Apart from taking over 2 hours to get on my way, I...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Pilotechy on 03/10/2017

Apart from taking over 2 hours to get on my way, I thought, ok, they're cheap so need to accept some delays. Firstly, as soon as I was driving off in the car I was given, there was a warning light on the dash so I parked up and asked for a different car. This is where the rudeness started. I was told to take the car to their mechanic at the top of the car park which I did. He was rude suggesting there was anything he could do with it and told me to go back. Heading back to the desk, it was insisted that I wait at the back of the queue that I'd already been in. She didn't accept there was an issue and that I just didn't like the car and refused a replacement. Several minutes passing, she agreed to look at the car and accept that their mechanic (that said he wasn't a mechanic) told me to swap it. Eventually I got a replacement with just as many dents and scratches as the previous one. It was briefly mentioned that I should take pictures of all the damage so would have been nice to agree all the damage before accepting the car but I rather stupidly thought they might just be quite relaxed about these minor issues... NO THEY'RE NOT !! To me, it's just to get more money from your precious deposit ! They have a scheme of charges with standard prices for common issues - €100 for a minor scratch - €300 for a puncture (!) - €1,000 for damage to roof. Once I got back, there were no queues which was good to see so thought I'd been seen quickly. Mistake. They were in no hurry to see me off ! despite several staff wondering about or on a cigarette break, finally it was my turn. Immediately, he walked to the front of the car asking for photographs of a prominent scratch. I suggested that it would be better to have agreed these before I left at which point he became very aggressive just repeating "did you read the conditions before you left?". I was taken aback somewhat. Preparing to find all the pictures that I did take (in the dark!) when I checked out, he just carried on his rant - I asked if we could just get on with it. This only seemed to raise his blood pressure further. Unless they're on commission for collecting claims, I don't see a reason for this aggression. Luckily, I was well prepared and had pictures of all the damage - to my relief, he agreed that my deposit (€1,200 plus €100 for fuel) would be put back on to my credit card but then I was shocked to be told that because I had "wasted his time", I was now blocked as a customer !! I was blocked !! WOW ! How to come back from that, other than the fact that would only be a problem if I actually wanted to be a customer ever again!! I hope that people take heed of these reviews and keep a wide berth !

“Car Hire malaga”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Luissegui on 02/10/2017

I hired a car on line at what I thought was a good rate, got picked up at Malaga Airport with all the other victims, and was shuttled to there office, where I stood in a Long Queue outside experiencing the strong smell of a sewer after about 20 minutes it was my turn to be interrogated and loaded up with extra charges, they know you are now a captive as a tourist. After returning the car, one month later they put an extra charge on my credit card? thinking perhaps I would not notice I contacted my card company and they removed it. THEY ARE DISHONEST, AVOID OR PAY THE PRICE

“cheap car hire with doyouspain.com”

written by CeciliaCormier on 01/10/2017

We booked this car hire with DOYOUSPAIN.COM. This was from Malaga airport the pick up time was 23.30 ,a representative would be waiting to take of site to DEL PASO CAR HIRE, after clearing customs we could not find the rep so we asked a few other representatives they told that he had gone about an hour ago . so we phone the company and they told us where they would pick us up. On arrival at the reception desk to collect the car we where told that the car had full tank of fuel and the cost would be 92.50 euros ,and we would have to bring the car back with full tank with no refund, their would a 40.00 euro charge for being late we would have accepted this and the their would be a charge for the excess insurance of 95.00 euros , I said that I had taken insurance to cover this from the UK , and they usually take the card and swipe for cover for the excess . we then told they did not operate this scheme and if did not pay we could not have the car with a total 227.0 euros for a small car for five days I refused this , we was then told that the that we could not have the car .so we walk away and found a car hire company after about hour to rent us a car. BE WARNED DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

“Not worth the hassle or stress”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GeraldAlmeida491 on 12/09/2017

I booked with DelPaso via Doyouspain, and got an incredibly low price. It was advertised as a Fiat 500L (or similar) unlimited mileage and a free additional driver, all for just £32. We were picked up a short walk from the terminal, there was a van waiting already and it was just a couple of minutes drive to the main depot. The reception was quiet and we were seen straight away . All good so far. I knew what to expect in terms of the insurance, I expected them to do their best to sell it me, but I have my own cover and the credit on my card to cover their excess. There is an assumption that you will automatically buy their insurance and was handed a cost of around 20 euros a day. When I explained I did not need the insurance the chap started saying something about them not working with 3rd party insurance providers. I wasn't really sure what point he was trying to make but I said I was happy to take the risk. He then told me that they have set prices for any damage and handed me a sheet with a long list of their costs. All the prices were extortionate but he insisted I signed the form to agree to the charges. I did sign this as I was confident my own insurance would cover this, but in hindsight I probably shouldn't have. I was then offered another chance to buy the insurance at a reduced rate of around 15 euros , which I declined again. We were then given the keys to a Kia Ceed and told to take photos of any existing damage to the car. We were told to allow at least an hour on return of the vehicle as they would need this time to fully inspect the vehicle, again adding more pressure to take out their insurance. The Kia is definitely the car you get if you don't take out their insurance. 75000km on the clock and a lot of scrapes and dents and hadn't had a clean for a while. Sensing we were going to get stung on our return we literally took dozens of photos of every square inch of the car, inside and out. All of this was tedious but we were determined not to lose this battle. We had the car for a week, and it didn't let us down, but it wasn't until we drove off that we realised there may be an issue with the spare wheel, or the alarm may not work , or there was damage to the under carriage that were unable to see. Upon return , we got seen straight away and the lady said she would need to inspect the car. Rather than the hour long inspection that we were expecting, she to took a brief glance inside and out and only asked us for to produce a photo for a scuff on the front bumper, despite there being much more obvious damage on the car. We provided the necessary evidence that we were not at fault and she was happy. After no more than 5 mins she said we would be refunded and we were on our way. My card was refunded in full a few days later. I'd considered giving 2 stars for this review, as we came out of this well. We paid very little, the car worked, and the service wasn't that bad. But the nature of the operation is dishonest and unnerving, and no business should operate in that way so I'm adding to majority 1 star reviews Were we lucky, yes. Would we ever put ourselves through it again, no. In short it is a sham because for those of us who don't pay, it's obvious by the other reviews that many were not as fortunate as us and end up being charged for damage that they didn't incur. And for every booking that don't pay for insurance there are probably 20 who do, and they probably end up paying more than they would if they had gone to Avis or Hertz in the airport. My friend also makes a good point that if they are charging everyone for insurance, then surely all the cars should be completely free of any damage. They take your money and then don't even have the decency to repair the cars when something does happen.

“AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sqSawyer299 on 03/09/2017

This company rely on people taking out the insurance they offer. If you do not take out their extra insurance on return of the car they will find something wrong with it and then take your money that way instead. What seems on the face of it to be really cheap car hire turns out to be as expensive, or more expensive, than buying elsewhere. When I picked up the car I did not take out their extra insurance, but instead stuck with the basic insurance offered with the car. When I returned the car 12 days later the woman who inspected the car asked if I had insurance or had left a deposit of 1200 euro to cover the excess. Once I told her I'd left the deposit she started looking for the tiniest of marks on the car. The kind of marks you make when you polish it for example. She said this is wrong, that is wrong. When you rely on them to take you back to the airport - their depot is not that close to the airport in spite of what they claim - and you have already left a deposit you know you are in for trouble. I consider myself to be quite lucky in 'only' having to pay an extra 100 euros on top of the bargain car hire price. I rang my credit card people when I got back to the UK and was advised next time not to sign anything agreeing to pay a surcharge for so called damage to the car. That way they can dispute the charge. Anyway, a lesson learnt. Steer clear of DELPASO Car Hire or Doyouspain.com (as they are known on the Internet in the UK - from where I booked the car). They are also quite rude and discourteous - apart from the courtesy shuttle bus driver...and she never even checked the car to see it had the required full tank of petrol. Which it did, by the way. Her only task was to scoop in some cash to off-set the fact I didn't pay the 15 or 18 euro extra per day for their fully inclusive insurance. So she manufactured problems with the car on its return. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. Just to be on the safe side I cancelled that credit card when I got back to the UK as I do not trust them at all. By the way I did take loads of pictures and a video of the car before driving off with it. The only problem is that because of the really strong sunlight and its reflections created you have no chance of catching the hairline marks which are on the car. I did no damage to that car whatsoever. The woman knew it, I knew it, but that’s the way they make their money. It’s dishonesty on a commercial scale and it left a horrible taste in my mouth on my last day in Spain. I would never ever use them again and I will make sure I let as many people know about them and their nasty ways as possible.

We picked up a car from Delpaso car hire which was scratched and dented in so many places and your company was an absolute nightmare to deal with. The man we had to deal with was very forceful in trying to sell your car excess policy threatening that they would charge 363 EUR per tiny scratch and if we did not take out the policy we would need to photo/video the car before hand. The car was only available to video/video in bright sun light so pictures not clear and they claimed their was a tiny scratch on the car which was not there before and charged us 363.63eur. This is clearly a scheme to try to make extra money and when I asked the person I dealt with to speak to the person in charge of him he refused rudely. He also accused us of making four other scratches and dents but fortunately we had photo evidence this was there before we took the car and he would not answer why they did not have this evidence but again falsely accused us They are clearly trying to make money by falsely accusing people of making scratches on cars which are in no state to be hired out.We have hired out cars on a yearly basis from Alamo,Record,Goldcar and Sixt and never had a problems, rudeness, pressure to by excess insurance or false accusations resulting in a charge for 363 EUR for a tiny scratch not caused by us or ever had to hire a car full of scratches and dents

Use Delpaso regularly.I Book Direct .I Always take out the All Inclusive Package . Have registered all my details with them and pay prior to collection , small discount , the collection process is then much quicker. Good courtesy bus service . Have recently used the out of hours service , no problem , additional charge though. I don't want the worry about what happens if the car gets damaged. With the Full Insurance if you get unlucky its all covered and car returns are dealt with quickly. Make sure you return car with full tank. Had a very good upgrade on my last car hire and will be using them again in September. I have always found the staff to be helpful as well.

Don't use them. Just read all the bad reviews. You can calculate +80% on their prices for their "insurance".. And belive me, you have to get their insurance.. They will take your deposit otherwise, doesn't matter how many videos/pictures you have.. They know you have to get to your flight and they will take your deposit.

Have hired from them a number of times, but they have recently changed their approach and I wont use the again. If you don't take their very expensive additional insurance, they will get you on return.
Had major argument with them in June 2017 when I returned the car. They would not mark-up on the hire form at collection, the very extensive existing damage on the car and then on return picked on scratches and asked the renter to prove it was not there before the rental started.
If you make a scene in front of their customers and threaten to put it in the hands of your Spanish attorney, they back off, and you will need good Spanish to deal with the staff handling the return.
Just a thoroughly unpleasant experience. They don't want your custom unless you take their high cost insurance.

Booked through a broker, doesn't everyone? Booked 'Full to Full Fuel' or that's what the voucher said but in brackets (admin costs apply). Admin costs turned out to be 70 Euros for full tank (given a VW Polo so unlikely it takes more than 50 at most to fill up) plus 40 Euros service charge!! Staff extremely abrupt, probably fed up with being shouted at by irate customers who have been misled by the broker?....

written by Bergertime on 28/07/2017

We rented a car through a broker with insurance, however we came there and we saw the cars. They have a trillion dents and scratches (however they are good and new cars) but it is impossible for anyone to track or document all the damages on a car. Especially when you come in the night. Secondly, only after use you will find out what is missing in the car, third you will have a road assistance and we needed this. We paid for a car Euro 50 more and could deliver it with a full tank and off you go to the airport. No inspections, no hassle. In short: with a full insurance this is an average to good company

Exactly right. They can be very cheap but make sure you have excess cover or take their insurance ( but add this cost onto the rental to see if it is still a good deal). Otherwise take about 30 pictures of the car and get EVERY tiny scratch signed off, but they will still find an almost invisible one that you didn't cause. Be very careful renting from them, there are much better companies in Malaga.

No they will tell you it is not authorised bu them so you either take out their insurance or put a large deposit. That was the issue i had with them! I think most hirers are the same but uou dont know that until you get out there....

Del Paso only accept their own insurrance, so you would need to put a deposit on 1000€. When you return the Car and everything checks out, you will automaticly revcieve your money again on your given account! If you have more questions, please give me a message :)

If you have any problem with your car, delpaso charge you for damages and then you have to claim to your insurance.

What does one have to do to get an answer from Del Paso about their CDW insurance cover?

I have paid Platinum Excess Waiver on top of the hire charge. Am I fully covered?

If the return flight is early morning and you have to drop the car off at say around 05.00 am what are the arrangements? Will someone be there to check in car in and will there be a shuttle bus facility provided by Delpaso back to the terminal building? Finally is there a charge for returning the car at that hour?

Yes there are charges, but you drop it of at the airport itself. hope this helps. PS I used centaur recently and they were very good. Seriously I would reconsider using Del Paso.
